"I'm sorry" his voice was low and full of sorrow, and he found it hard to look at Wilbur at all as he spoke. He really was sorry, but he supposed that didn't matter much. Turns out asking for forgiveness and not permission was absolute bull shit because he felt terrible.
"I'm not mad Tom's" Wilbur promised, though it did very little to ease his mind when the older man sounded so annoyed. He supposed it was fair, because while Wilbur had no technical say over his decisions he had made and broken a promise. .
"I just wanted to see what it was like for myself" he mumbled, laying his warm cheek against the cold glass window for a bit of relief. He was flushed from embarrassment and Wilbur let out a small, sympathetic hum. He had warned Tommy numerous times what Jared's parties were like and what it meant to be someone of their status and still get invited.
He had been so adamant about Tommy steering clear when he was presented with the invite only a week back. Tommy, though, was determined to try and use it as a popularity boost, denying any chance of what Wilbur had told him. Wilbur only clicked his tongue, head tilting as he focused on the road ahead of them.
"I already told you what they're like" he mumbled, trying to keep his voice even as Tommy looked back at him. He kept a blank expression that teetered on the edge of a frown as he stared at the road, making Tommy pout slightly. Those were some of things about the older teen he couldn't stand. He was hard to read and loved being right.
"I know. But you've never gone to one so I figured that was just an assumption." Tommy explained, offering a half hearted shrug. Wilbur blinked, once, twice and finally glanced at the younger teen out of the corner of his eye. He debated himself for a moment before looking forward again and sighing.
"I've been to one. But only one" he assured and Tommy couldn't believe his ears. That wasn't the type of thing they hid from each other.
"Since Fucking when?" He questioned, making Wilbur huff out a small laugh, never not amused by the blonde. "Because I seem to recall telling you everything" he continued, mumbling a small 'excluding tonight' before Wilbur could even prompt that. "So If I've told you most everything I fail to see how you have been to one without telling me" he finished, playing up his offended attitude.
"My god, you're dramatic. It was in year 10, before we even met Toms" he explained. "Not that it matters… I'm just glad you called me before it got worse" he changed the subject, not wanting to dwell much on his own experiences with Jared and his parties. Tommy hummed, pressing his face back to the window.
"And I'm happy you showed up and acted completely reasonably" he chuckled. Wilbur's eyes scanned his own hands on the steering wheel, taking note of the injuries to his knuckles from 'acting reasonably'.
"Well from what you told me I believe I did" he shrugged. He had always wanted to fight Jared anyway, it wasn't his fault that the best reason to do so came about then. "Honestly he's had that one coming for a while" he mumbled, making Tommy ever so curious about it.
"So what'd he do to you than?" he asked, albeit blunt and with little remorse. "You said he only invites losers like us to parties to bed them or humiliate them and I know what it was for me so… what was it for you?" He continued when Wilbur showed hesitation in responding.
"Well he got away with both on my end, not much more to it. Had he gotten any further than failed persuasions with you before you called I'd've left him in a much more pitiful state than I did" he explained, simple and to the point with maybe a bit too much floral language. That was one of the things Tommy quite liked about Wilbur. His speech pattern was just overly decorated for such small things.
"Oh I know you would've. You're a right proper knight in shining armor" Tommy gently teased, making the pit forming in Wilbur's gut slowly decrease. The blond did have a knack for putting him quickly at ease.
"Only for you Toms" he joked, voice wistful and filled to the brim with something in between a plea and a promise. Something that made Tommy's heart stir to a degree.
"Promise?" He asked, watching as they pulled into the younger teens driveway. Wilbur turned the car off, silently letting Tommy know they were both going in. Impromptu sleep overs seemed to be the norm for them as of recently so he had no obligations as he slid out of the passenger seat.
"When you need me.. I'll be there" Wilbur replied, somehow completely but not all answering Tommy's question. He raised a brow as Wilbur stood, waiting for him before walking towards the house. He immediately went to his side.
"And that'll always be the case right?" He prompted, putting the older teen on edge. The brunette wasn't sure of himself anymore. If this was flirting he assumed he was doing well but he also had no clue if it was flirting or not.
"Until you don't want it to be" he shrugged, taking them around the back of the house so as not to wake Tommy's parents. Tommy turned the words over in his mind, for once on the same, confused, page as Wilbur.
"And… suppose I need you now" he continued, voice teetering off from the nerves. Wilbur blinked once, twice and slowly nodded his head. He could handle those implications.
"Well. Suppose you did" he started, a nervous hand twitching at his side before he let it loose to find Tommy's. "I am here now" As soon as he brushed the other teens hand He received a friendly squeeze and their fingers wove together effortlessly. "And if you so happen to need more.. Well.. When it's you I don't mind more being taken" Tommy blushed at the words, staring down at his feet.
"And if Jared said something sweet but I hated every second of it.. Would you say something sweeter?" Wilbur felt a harsh flash of hatred for the elder teen in his heart but it quickly died down. It was hushed by the sorrow he felt.
"If it took a song a day to erase his voice from your mind I'd start now" he admitted. Tommy let out a breath he had no idea he had been holding, leaning into the older teen.
"An 'I love you' would suffice, if it was true of course" he assured, sweet as ever.
"Mm, then I guess it's good that I love you"
