“Sure you were,” the cop said petulantly. His face was alarmingly red and he was sweating profusely as he fumbled a pair of handcuffs out of a jacket pocket. The thief was long gone, and even if Steve ran at top speed, he’d probably never find him. “Funny how you’re the one who’s got a ladies’ backpack in your hands.” He looked forlornly at the sidewalk. “My wings,” he lamented. “All the slut sauce.” Steve half expected him to close with “oh the humanity.”
