Summary
The Mojave is unforgiving. Its scorching heat and dry, barren landscapes nestle a hidden metropolis deep within its promise for a mirage. Many have tried to break through it and find cool, refreshing water on the other side, but as Frank, Gerard, Mikey, and Ray soon learn, there isn’t a way out once Battery City has its eyes set on its next victim.
After their escape from Detention Center 14, the four settle into an abandoned diner in the outskirts of zone 6 and fight tooth and nail to survive with the aid of a friendly but lonely single father by the name of Cherri Cola. This is most definitely not the time for sparks to fly between them, but Frank and Gerard let them light up anyway while the desert continues to close in on them.
When they finally escape: bruised, shot, and caked in dust, time stops and it doesn’t start again until Frank chases Gerard out into the rain outside the New York airport and lets the words pour out from his chest; words that he quickly finds out should not have been spoken.
