ONLY THE CHARACTERS! (Not the content creators)
Mostly doesn't follow DSMP lore, but does refer to it and use it a lot
NO SMUT
MC has no gender, and is written as an asexual panromantic character.
Not all characters will be yanderes or will have romantic feelings towards MC. Characters like Tommy and Tubbo will have platonic relationships, nothing more.
MC uses THEY/THEM and YOU/YOURS pronouns mostly.
MC has their own lore that I and a friend of mine came up with.
This is all mostly improvised. I have not written down any lore somewhere, it's just in my head kinda.
I have already written this in Word, so some things might seem off because they've been copied (and not everything wants to work the way I want to).
There is also a discord for this series. You can find it here. If you want to make fanart of this story, you can send it in here, if you want to. The Discord will also be for other fanfictions I'll write in the future, btw!
Last but not least, this story will have quite some dark content and whatnot and there will be mentions and/or descriptions of:
BLOOD
VIOLENCE
DEATH
OBSESSIVE BEHAVIOUR
TOXIC RELATIONSHIPS
And more.
I will attempt to put a trigger warning at the start of each chapter if it's needed, but I can't promise that I will be able to remember or to recognize when it's needed.
Now, let me start the prologue.
T/W: Mentions of obsessive behaviour, mentions of suicidal behaviour and thoughts, implication of self-harm
Tommy watches as the sun goes down behind the city, painting a beautiful picture that he wishes to capture for forever. Maybe one day, he’ll be able to look back at it and laugh about all of this. About this situation he’s in. About the pain he’s feeling after feeling the way he does. But he shouldn’t be surprised that this happened anyway. Ever since your apparent suicide, it’s been hard for him. He cared for you like a brother, just like you cared for him like a sibling. He’s still looking for the right ways to cope, but everything leads back to self-destructive behaviours he sometimes cannot control. And now, they’ve led him here. The Deserts. Fired from the only job he's ever known, away from the only friends he’s ever had.
As much as Sam is a good warden, it is obvious that he cannot keep Dream in as much as he’d hoped to. The A.I. always finds his way back, whether it’s on a screen or in their heads. It’s Dream’s fault that Tommy has lost it all to begin with, and now he doesn’t know what to do. He’s all on his own, betrayed.
He blames himself for all of it.
The best of it? He has nowhere to turn to. He has thought of going to the Syndicate countless of times: surely, his father wants to help him out? But he doesn’t believe that his father cares about him at all. Philza left him behind with Wilbur when Tommy was only a child, so why would he help him out now?
At least, he knows all about it now. About the things that bothered you so much. He’s seen how your likely death has affected everyone. Tubbo and Tommy are actually the only ones of the DeMeter company who seemed to be dealing with it normally, but other than them, the entire company might as well have fallen down with you.
First of all, Fundy. Right after your death, and Wilbur’s arrest, Tommy barely saw the man anymore. And the few times that he did see him, Fundy seemed to be lost in thought. At first, Tommy thought that he understood what Fundy was going through. The fox had already been abandoned by his mother, who turned out to be your lover, so losing two people he cared about in the span of a few minutes must have been tough. But one day, when Tommy actually came inside Fundy’s room, he found out how obsessed he was. Fundy had drawn and scratched your name on the walls, having drawn your face on many papers. Though the art in itself was impressive, it seems like he cried while making everyone of them, his fur too being spread all over the ground. It was obvious to Tommy, right then, that Fundy was more unstable than he had seemed at first.
And then Niki, a woman who had also been a lot more absent ever since your death. At first, her behaviour didn’t seem alarming. Similar to Fundy, Tommy understood what she was going through. Watching someone jump off the roof like that is quite traumatizing, after all. But the main thing that he started finding a little scary, was the constant hope that she seemed to hold about how you would never commit such an action. Now, Tommy can see where he’s coming from. Especially after Schlatt’s insisting about how you were still alive, he could kind of understand Niki’s hope. But this too quickly seemed to change as her hope wasn’t just that you were still alive, but she somehow seemed convinced that someone was keeping you away from, specifically, her. First, she started distrusting the DeMeter company itself. She talked to Tubbo and Tommy about how ‘they couldn’t keep you away from her forever’. After that, she claimed how Sam must keeping you in a prison cell. And then, it suddenly switched to Quackity having forced you to be his partner, or Karl and Sapnap having you wrapped around their fingers. And in every single story she told Tommy, she was the one who saved you. She was the one keeping you safe from the dangers.
And honestly, Tommy couldn’t and still can’t decide whose behaviours are healthier.
But Fundy and Niki weren’t the only ones whose lives seemed to evolve around yours – or rather, your death. Sapnap and Karl’s relationship suffered because of your existence already, but your disappearance affected it even more. Last time Tommy saw them, which is almost a year ago now, there was more complication between the two of them than there was in Tommy’s entire head, which doesn’t say a lot since his head is pretty much empty.
In any case, Karl was hopeful. He told Tommy about how he had dreamt about you and about how he was sure it meant something. “They’ll come back,” he’d said. “I know they will!” While Sapnap was a lot more pessimistic about it, constantly reminding his fiancé of how nobody can survive a fall from a building that high. But Karl’s hope did seem to be the one thing keeping Sapnap alive. Your death – which the pyromaniac was sure had happened – seemed to bring him down so much that, apparently, he had even thought of ending his own life. Obviously, Sapnap still felt like you owed him something, but he also claimed of how a life without you is a life not worth living. It was actually quite odd how their contradicting thoughts were the very gravity they needed to stay grounded.
Quackity, in Tommy’s opinion, seemed to be handling your death the best. What he could not deal with well, however, was the discovery of who was the love of your life. It was something he continuously had been bringing up to Tommy, whenever Tommy helped him out at Las Nevadas. Every time, he brought it up. “I understand why they would throw themselves off the building when they’re faced with a decision like that, but why Sally? What the fuck kind of mental illness did they suffer from to choose Sally over everyone there!” Tommy knew that you truly loved Sally: the look in your eyes spoke enough. And still, he tried to assure Quackity of how it was probably to piss the others off. Yet, Quackity got furious every time again.
“I’ve been patient. And I will remain patient. But imagine loving someone and being prepared to give your life to them, only to hear that they prefer their other best friend to be their lover!”
Ever after Tommy said that, honestly, he didn’t even visit Quackity anymore. It just felt wrong.
But to be frank, Sam wasn’t any better either. Sam could put on a mask as much as he wanted but Tommy had seen through his façade. He was just as infatuated with you as everybody else, but the only difference was that he was keeping it to himself. And now, this wouldn’t be that big of a problem, if he actually admitted that he had a problem too. When Tommy went to visit Ponk, hoping to get some help for his problems – something neither of his brothers or parents had ever had the balls to do – he truly realized how much Sam was hiding from the world.
“The problem with Sam is that he believes he is a good man and to be fair, he is not necessarily bad, but he’s not good either. He has this view of two wrongs making right. This belief that his actions can be immoral if it means that it’s for the greater good. This belief in itself isn’t inherently bad or unhealthy either, but as I’m sure you can imagine, everything has its limit. But I’m afraid that he doesn’t realize this.”
Similar to Quackity, Sam is prepared to wait, except he believes that there is a chance for him and you to be together. And according to Ponk, he is concerned that Sam’s current mindset and his refusal to get help will escalate. His delusions make him more dangerous and self-control cannot keep you safe forever.
Tommy has already learnt this. It’s why he asked for help in the first place.
However, even if all of these people have completely lost their minds, the three who are currently in Pandora’s Prison have become existential threats. Technoblade already was a danger for the people around him. His lack of sense of responsibility and tendency to excuse his actions in one way or another, are the main red flags when it comes to his personality. But after talking to him in Pandora’s Prison, Tommy has seen how Technoblade’s behaviour also negatively impacts the Blood God’s own life. He cannot admit that he is in the wrong. He even kept telling Tommy of how it was the voices telling him, but Tommy knows that the voices cannot be blamed for Technoblade’s actions. Even if it was indeed the voices that made him act the way he did, Technoblade is already aware that his state can lead to harming others.
“Everybody has problems, Tommy. Everybody goes through something shitty in their life and it always affects them. This is not their fault. People with mental illnesses are not to blame for the fact that they have them, whether they’re born with it or not. However, just because something isn’t your fault, doesn’t mean it isn’t your responsibility. You cannot be blamed for the bad things that happen to you, but you are responsible for what happens to you afterwards. An abuser is not justified to abuse an innocent, just because they have gone through the same.”
“What about abusing the abusers?”
“Your actions are your actions, Tommy. If a classmate hits you, that is not on you. But if you hit back afterwards, it is on you. The things that happen to you do not define you, but your actions do. A lot of people have gone through traumatizing experiences, but not all of them turned out to be bad people, so why should you? If you know your mental health problems can lead you to harming others, your struggle cannot be used as an excuse under any circumstances. You are the one who has to find help for them, to learn how to cope with them. The moment you know you are a danger to others, is the moment that you have to seek help. If you do not do this, your terrible actions cannot be justified with the excuse that you are insane.”
And then Dream. The goddamn A.I. who had always found a way to return to the DeMeter company and pester them. Tommy has no idea how exactly Dream is handling your death, since he is spending most of his time in isolation. Tommy bets that he is not handling it well, after all. He was the first to find himself obsessing over you, and he won’t be the last, Tommy bets.
And then, there was his big brother. A man who he once looked up to, wanted to be like. And now, he looks down on him. Wilbur lost himself the moment he met you, and due to his mental instability and aggression, he’s even been put in a Limbo, which is not the kind of cell anyone would want to be in.
Tommy lets out a deep sigh, opening his bag and looking over the stuff. His phone, a knife, some food, but not a lot else in there. Exile, he calls it. It might be a bit overexaggerated, but he can’t live like this, so it feels quite torturous.
He puts his finger around the knife, taking it out of the bag and looking at the blade. He tilts it a little, trying to get all kinds of images to appear on the metal, although he’s mainly attempting to capture the City’s image. After some playing with it, though, he turns it to himself again, where he almost get a heart attack when he sees a figure behind him. As he lets out a scream, he jumps a little and turns around quickly, making eye contact with someone who should be dead.
“You let your hair grow, I see,” your familiar voice sounds, echoing in his ears as he can barely believe his eyes. He must be hallucinating. That has to be it. “You haven’t exactly been taking care of yourself, have you, Tommy Innit?”
But you look different. Other than the suit and glove and robotic hand, that is. You’ve changed. You’re standing in front of him differently than you would have done if you’d found him over a year ago, and your face screams out ‘authority’, as odd as that sounds. And then your left eye. The white part of your left eye is red, which doesn’t seem healthy, really. It’s the main thing he can focus on, actually.
“You look like you’ve seen a ghost, Tommy. Are you okay?”
He starts crying. As you sit down on the ground next to him, he puts his arms around you and doesn’t even try to stop the tears. At least someone came to visit him. You might be a hallucination. You might be a ghost. Hell, you even might be real, and he wouldn’t care. Because the point is that you’re here. Your robotic fingers go through his hair as you look at it with a smile.
“Long hair suits you quite good, Tommy, although I do advise you to go to a barber. It’s uneven.” Tommy can’t help but chuckle at your comment as he lets go of you and looks at you happily. You’re carrying that same bag around you always have been carrying, which you put your other hand in to grab something. Tommy remains silent, quickly seeing what you take out. A small machine. The machine looks like an MP3, except it needs something to work. This necessity, you also have in your hand, he bets. This is a small box, after all, although Tommy don’t know what’s inside.
“What is that?” Tommy asks curiously and you smile at him, before opening the box and giving him the MP3.
“Turn it on. Put these in your ears, and listen to one of these songs.” He does as you say while you take something out of the box. It’s a disc. A small, old-fashioned looking disc.
“What is that?” Tomy asks again, but you simply smile, still, instead putting it in the MP3 and letting it play. The sound that Tommy hears enter his ears, is quite calming, to say the least. It surely eases his nerves, so that’s a begin. He hangs against you and you put your arm around him in the way his mother used to do when he was upset. His body relaxes in your arms and the music makes him feel even better.
“It’s a little souvenir from where I live now, I suppose,” you tell him, and he can hear your voice behind the music playing. “It’s known to have a calming effect on people having it tough. It can also bring someone in such a state or mind that they can end up in another world. It’s like that thing that we did back at DeMeter, at the beginning of our friendship, remember? With the gases or whatever, the computer shit.”
“Where you could live in your ideal world?”
“Yes, that. Except this, is quite different, because instead of living in your ideal world, you can live inside of your mind. The more you practice, the more you can control it too. It’s quite an interesting phenomenon, one which Captain Blockbeard often confused with death.” Tommy’s eyes fly open, looking at you wide. You giggle. “It’s completely safe, Tommy. It’s like you’re sleeping, except time goes slower and you’re all on your own there. I’ve used it a lot.”
“It’s not dangerous, right?”
“Nothing comes without risks, Tommy.” Although the words don’t comfort him, they do convince him, and he can feel his eyelids getting heavier. A desired slumber is slowly taking over and the last words he hears from you, are: “I’ll bring you a friend tomorrow, okay? Go easy on him, though. He is not one of the safest anomalies, but I’m sure the two of you could get close.”
The moment he wakes up, you’re gone. He knows that it wasn’t a dream: the MP3 is still there. But for a moment, he does think you lied to him about the other friend. That is, until his eyes fall on someone who looks so familiar, yet has never met him before. The unhealthy-looking figure has a bright smile on his face and an excitement that could only match the energy Tommy used to have. His eyes shine bright, although they feel empty and soulless. He has skin of grey, or at least a tint of it, and wears a yellow sweater. But that’s not the thing that makes him so familiar, oh no. It’s the fact that he looks exactly like Wilbur.
But what Tommy would have never been able to predict, is that the ghost with his brother’s appearance, would be a better friend than he could have ever asked for. Unfortunately, Tommy already then didn’t recognize the red flags the spirit carried around with them.
Red flags which are invisible for many others to come.
