Jealousy, Jealousy

Summary:

“Hey, I’m going home, check on Huaisang for me” Jiang Cheng sighs, and Wangji gives him a slightly constipated look.

“Are you—you can’t drive inebriated” Wangji tells him.

“I had like, four beers max…I’d hardly call this being drunk. I’ll be fine. Just make sure Huaisang doesn’t choke on his throw up” Jiang Cheng makes it two steps to the front door when Wangji’s hand tugs at his wrist.

“You can—my bed is big enough” Wangji explains.

“I don’t want to make you uncomfortable”

“You don’t” Wangji states firmly. Jiang Cheng gives him a doubtful look.

Work Text:

Jiang Cheng rolls his eyes for what feels like it’s the thousandth time that night. He and Huaisang had decided to stay in, opting for pizza and beer accompanied by eight wonderful Harry Potter films.

“But Rowling is so awful” Huaisang had grumbled, and Jiang Cheng had agreed.

“Okay, but I refuse to let that woman ruin my childhood and this beautiful franchise. Now shut up and watch Harry sic the snake on his awful cousin Dudley” Huaisang had pouted, but Jiang Cheng knew he enjoyed the movies as much as he did. Harry and Ron had just gotten on to platform nine and three quarters when they heard keys jingling right outside their door. “You said he wouldn’t be home tonight!” Jiang Cheng hisses bolting up into a more proper sitting position between the pile of covers and pillows he and Huaisang had been laying on.

“Oops” Huaisang drawls sipping leisurely from his beer bottle looking anything but guilty.

“Oh” Wangji says softly from across the living room, eyes slightly bulging at the sudden scene before him.

“I—sorry, Huaisang said you wouldn’t mind” Jiang Cheng hurries to explain, cheeks flushed with embarrassment.

“Oh, no…it’s okay. I don’t, the apartment is much his as it is mine” Wangji assures taking a quick step in their direction just as Huaisang places a hand on his forearm to keep Jiang Cheng from possibly running away.

“See A-Cheng, Wangji-Ge doesn’t mind” Huaisang pats his hand soothingly then turns his attention back to the movie. Jiang Cheng narrows his eyes at Huaisang, calculating, deciding he’s keeping his guard up. Just like the marauders, Huaisang is never up to any good.

“Excuse me” Wangji then says bowing a bit in their direction before heading towards the kitchen. Jiang Cheng stands up and follows him hesitantly before clearing his throat.

“Hey, you sure you don’t mind? I’ve only had one beer, I’m sure I can convince Huaisang to come over to mine and A-Ying’s apartment instead”

“Ridiculous, don’t be silly. Please, enjoy your night in” Wangji assures him, a small kind smile playing on his lips.

“I—okay, uh—would you like to join us?” Jiang Cheng asks hopefully.

“I must bathe” Wangji answers and Jiang Cheng’s smile falters before he composes himself.

“It’s—I’ve had a long day” Wangji tries to explain.

“Oh no, no I understand!” Jiang Cheng tells him hurriedly, “I hope you have a nice bath” Jiang Cheng walks away, mentally berating himself for being such an idiot.

Behind him, Wangji watches as Jiang Cheng goes to plop next to Huaisang and curses under his breath. He could’ve easily said yes, why did he—god he was such an idiot. Wangji hated his inability to behave normally around Huaisang’s best friend. It was like his brain couldn’t handle Jiang Cheng’s proximity, buffering at the mere job of having to process how someone so ethereally beautiful could exist and be near Wangji’s vicinity. Wangji sighed to himself and headed towards his bedroom.

“Huaisang, why can’t we just go back to my apartment” Jiang Cheng whined. He’d long stopped drinking, scared to make a bigger fool of himself in front of his best friend’s roommate.

“Cause’ I’m comfy” Huaisang mumbles, snuggling onto Jiang Cheng’s arm, “besides, maybe we can convince Wangji-Ge to come hang out with us” he whispers conspiratorially.

“Huaisang…”

“A-Cheng, listen—Wangji is, he’s a little different than us but I swear, he totally likes you” Huaisang promises sitting up.

Jiang Cheng scoffs, “that’s—why should I care about that?”

“Bitch, don’t fucking play” Huaisang frowns, “you’re literally infatuated with the man. I see your little smitten eyes whenever he walks into the room” Jiang Cheng slaps his hand over Huaisang’s mouth and shushes him.

“He’s literally right through that door!” Jiang Cheng hisses, and just as he’s about to let go of his best friend, Wangji’s bedroom door opens. “Uh…” Jiang Cheng mumbles, as Wangji’s eye’s zero in on their position. Jiang Cheng is currently straddling Huaisang who is sprawled on the floor, mouth half covered by Jiang Cheng’s hand. It’s a bit incriminating and Jiang Cheng feels his cheeks heat up at Wangji’s narrowed eyes and frown. “Huaisang is a menace” Jiang Cheng offers with a shrug before scrambling away from his best friend and shooting him a dirty look.

“No worries Ge, we weren’t about to defile your precious carpet” Huaisang quips, a mischievous glint in his eyes. Jiang Cheng slaps a hand over his face.

“Ignore him” Jiang Cheng practically begs.

Wangji shakes his head, but the slight frown on his face still remains.

Huaisang grins, “oh”

Jiang Cheng gives him a questioning look but Huaisang just shrugs. “Not sure if you’ve eaten, but we did order you a veggie pizza, no meat” Huaisang announces over his shoulder and Wangji shoots him a grateful look. “Will you join us?” Huaisang asks, and Wangji nods walking over with his own plate of pizza to sit on the couch.

To Jiang Cheng’s dismay, this is where things begin to get slightly weird. Huaisang then goes on to plaster himself to Jiang Cheng’s side, just about nearly sitting on Jiang Cheng’s lap. And while Jiang Cheng knows Huaisang tends to get a bit touchy and clingy when he’s drunk he hasn’t had nearly enough to drink to warrant THIS amount of skin-ship.

“Everything okay?” Jiang Cheng asks, and Huaisang giggles.

“What, am I not allowed to cuddle with my best friend?” he asks, with an exaggerated pout. Behind them, Wangji clears his throat.

“Is it because Wangji-ge is here?” Huaisang asks, “you don’t mind? Do you?” Huaisang turns to look up at Wangji from their spot on the floor and Jiang Cheng can’t help but look up as well. Wangji, with a contradictory frown shakes his head. “See, don’t be shy A-Cheng. Cuddle me” Huaisang demands, so Jiang Cheng does as he is told, completely unaware of the daggers Wangji shoots in their direction. When Harry, Ron and Hermione are taking on the Wizards’ Chess board, Huaisang clumsily spills beer all over Jiang Cheng’s sleeping clothes.

“Fuck, A-Sang!” Jiang Cheng groans, “told you to stop drinking while laying down. I don’t have another change of clothes!”

“Oh! That’s okay, you can wear something of mine” Huaisang offers. “No!” comes Wangji’s sudden objection, which causes both Huaisang and Jiang Cheng to look up at him. “I mean—you can wear something of mine. Huaisang is much too small to have anything your size” Wangji explains ears flaming red. “I’ll—yeah, i’ll be right back” he says before dashing out of the living room into his room.

“Huaisang you’re such a menace” Jiang Cheng grumbles taking off his shirt and using it to wipe off the beer off his stomach.

“Here, I hope it’s comfortable” Wangji says behind him a few seconds later. Jiang Cheng startles into the arms Huaisang who is now cackling.

“You never share your clothes with anyone, ge. Is A-Cheng just special?” Huaisang asks.

“God, listen don’t mind him. he’s drunk” Jiang Cheng apologizes, as if Wangji didn’t know exactly how Huaisang was.

“It’s a—it’s okay, uh—I’m gonna head to bed. Good night” Lan Zhan abruptly leaves, slamming the door to his room shut leaving Jiang Cheng to stand there with a pair of sweats and a white tee, Huaisang cackling on the floor. Jiang Cheng sighs and heads for the restroom to quickly clean up and change.

When Jiang Cheng comes out of the bathroom, he notices two things. Huaisang is gone and the TV is off.

Jiang Cheng goes to knock on Huaisang’s door only to be met with silence. “Huaisang…open the door!” Jiang Cheng hollers shaking the doorknob that refuses to budge. “I swear to god, I’ll drive home drunk, I’m not sleeping on this dirty wet comforter!”

Jiang Cheng waits a few seconds before banging on the door once again. When Huaisang doesn’t open he curses and walks away.

Lan Wangji’s door flings open once more as Jiang Cheng is scavenging for his shoes and keys.

“You sure? I’m a cuddler” Jiang Cheng jokes as Wangji quietly leads him towards his bedroom.

“I don’t mind” Wangji pulls the comforters off the bed and motions for Jiang Cheng to get in. Jiang Cheng thinks he probably is more drunk than he initially thought. Still, he hops right onto bed and outwardly moans at how soft Wangji’s bed is.

“It’s like laying on a cloud” Jiang Cheng sighs starfishing. Wangji slides in through the other side and lays on his side staring right at Jiang Cheng.

“Do you prefer the lights on or off?” Wangji questions.

“This is so weird” Jiang Cheng mumbles, “what do you prefer?”

“What’s so weird?” Wangji questions moving closer.

“I don’t know” Jiang Cheng shrugs and tucks a hand under his cheek as he turns to face Wangji.

“Do I make you uncomfortable?”

Jiang Cheng shakes his head, “of course not”

Wangji hums and closes his eyes. It’s only been a few minutes and Jiang Cheng might be falling asleep when Wangji asks, “I thought you were a cuddler”

“Huh?”

“You said you were a cuddler” Wangji repeats, “or is it only Huaisang that gets the privilege of cuddles with A-Cheng”

Wangji is staring at him, Jiang Cheng can feel it and—why does he sound upset? “Why? Are you jealous of him?” Jiang Cheng jokes.

“Yes” Wangji says simply. Jiang Cheng’s eyes fly open.

“I was just joking—Wangji” Wangji’s cheeks are now faintly pink and he huffs a breath before turning around, giving his back to Jiang Cheng. He stares at him incredulously wondering how the hell this night got so bizarre.

“Well do you wanna be the little spoon?” Jiang Cheng asks moving to hug Wangji’s back. Underneath his touch Wangji goes rigid before relaxing. He nods a little so Jiang Cheng moves closer, wrapping his arms fully around him. “Ridiculous” Jiang Cheng mumbles. Still, he does have to admit, cuddling Wangji is much more nicer than cuddling Huaisang. “I really hope Huaisang isn’t like dead”

“I’m sure he’s okay” Wangji mumbles, “could you please not mention him while we’re in bed together?”

“Are you seriously jealous of him”

Jiang Cheng laughs at Wangji’s silence. “He’s my best friend, Wangji”

“Goodnight, Jiang Cheng” Wangji responds instead and Jiang Cheng figures they can talk more about it in the morning.
