Solecito

Summary:

"Good morning." She whispered in Catra’s ear. She made a noise of general discontent and burrowed into Adora’s neck. Adora placed a few kisses along her jaw, running her foot along Catra’s calf.

"Hello there." She poked Catra’s side and placed a kiss on the top of her head. Still nothing. She couldn’t keep the smile off of her face as she tried a new tactic.

"Soul-ehh-see-too." She singsonged shifting Catra’s weight to and fro. She blew air across Catra’s head after she butchered the Spanish endearment. Catra finally lifted her head, sending Adora a half-hearted glare.

"Your Ls are too heavy. It's only cute when Finn says it like that." She muttered as she peered up at Adora.

"I knew you couldn't resist correcting my Spanish." She grinned down at Catra placing a kiss on her cheek.

Work Text:

Catra shifted a little in her sleep, tossing some of the covers off her arm so she could rest her head on her hand. Adora had been staring at Catra for at least an hour by now. The light streaming in through the windows made her look like she was glowing, her eyelashes fluttering on her cheeks as she breathed deeply. Every time a sunbeam from between the blinds flashed across her eyes, Catra scrunched her face and turned, avoiding the light.

Her heart would never stop being so full at the sight of Catra warming her bed. It wasn’t a new sight by any means, but it was a welcome one. She committed to making sure Catra stayed here with her as often as possible. Hopefully one day soon, forever. She still worried over their relationship, especially with the way all their friends and family watched them with an extra close eye after the divorce. It needed mending but in moments like this, it felt inevitable that they would find their way.

She sighed as she inched closer to Catra, pulling the woman she loved into her arms. She felt Catra become even limper if that were possible, melting into Adora. She smiled, burrowing her nose in Catra’s hair. She loved everything about how this morning felt, now she just needed Catra to wake up so she could share it with her.

"You know my mom is going to kill you if they don't work through their L crisis right?" Catra said knowingly as she raised an eyebrow.

"Me? It's not like I'm teaching Finn Spanish." She laughed. Adora had tried a few times over her friendship and then marriage with Catra to pick up her love's native language but it always ended in disaster.

"Well, she'll still love them even if they don't have el Castellano perfecto." Catra rolled her eyes as she imitated her mother. She fell back into a bright light beam and groaned, burrowing her head in the crook of her elbow.

"I hate that you forget to shut the blinds. You can at least shut them when I'm staying over." She complained as she squinted against the light.

Adora twinged at the reminder of their current living situation but ignored it. You have to be patient Adora. Don't scare her off.

"I like waking up with the sun!" She defended instead. She had meant to close the blinds because she knew Catra hated the way the sun danced into the room on the weekends, but she didn't want to let Catra win that easy.

"I thought I was your sun huh? Solecito?" She asked with the right intonation. She dropped a few kisses of her own along Adora’s brow.

"You are. My whole world even." She confirmed, pulling her close and kissing her. The kiss was soft and languid just like the morning had been. A sigh escaped Adora’s lips as they parted. "You and Finn." She amended with a smile.

Catra pressed her forehead forward onto Adora’s and stilled there for a moment nuzzling her. Adora opened her eyes after a moment, not realizing she'd closed them. Catra’s split eyes stared back at her so tender and soft she couldn’t help but kiss her again.

The kiss took a different turn this time. Catra pushed Adora onto her back, kissing down her jaw before placing a bruising kiss on her neck. Adora’s breath stuttered, her hands clenched around Catra’s hips. Adora took advantage of Catra’s hiked-up tank top and let her hands roam up her waist to the underside of her chest.

"Catra—" Adora tried to think past the heady fog of Catra’s lips and teeth and hands but it seemed an impossible task. "We have to get up. We have plans." She reminded the woman astride her lap. She felt a gust of air on her neck as Catra groaned.

She pulled back slightly sending Adora a heated gaze. She could hear her heartbeat rushing in her ears and she involuntarily clenched her thighs. Catra smirked as she looked down at Adora’s body.

"We can celebrate by going to the parade." She leaned back as she ran a fingertip down Adora’s neck until it rested at the tip of her cleavage. "Or you can let me fuck you into the mattress. That seems pretty gay to me."

She shrugged nonchalantly but her eyes burned her finger trailing lower to rest on one of Adora’s nipples. With the window behind her and the sunshine fluttering through the window, Catra looked like a literal angel ripped out of Adora's dreams. Her chest felt heavy with the crush of emotions welling inside.

"We can't." She panted out although she wasn't quite sure why they couldn't. She wanted Catra so badly she was trembling with it.

"Can't we princess?" Catra leaned forward now kissing down the other side of her neck, slower as her hair gently brushes on Adora’s chest.

"Catra wait." The words slipped out and it was like a light switch. Catra pulled back concern furrowing her brow. One of her hands moved to grip Adora’s reassuringly. "I—it'll be our first time since—" Adora struggled with naming what happened between them but Catra’s eyes cleared with understanding. She pressed forward. "I want it to be special." Adora finished lamely.

She felt like she was back in college staring up at Catra, her long-time best friend turned girlfriend and asked for more time before they took the deep plunge into intimacy together. She was awkward and vulnerable then and boy she felt that way now too.

It had been years since she had Catra like this and they'd both been with other women. She didn't have the heart to have a morning quickie after everything they'd been through. She wanted hours of uninterrupted time where she could truly show Catra how much she'd missed her in their time apart. She wanted forever with Catra.

Same as she had in college, Catra relaxed above her, placing a soft kiss on her forehead.

"It'll be special because it's us together again." Catra reminded gently. "But if you want to romance me I'm unopposed." She teased with a bright smile and rolled off Adora leaving her with her shorts clinging uncomfortably. "Come on, Glimmer and Bow will be here soon. You’re making us late." Catra tutted.

This was one of the things she missed most desperately during the time they were separated. Catra had a knack for understanding Adora and knowing just what to say. She rolled onto her side to watch Catra go.

"You were the one sleeping in." Adora protested, shaking her head as Catra got out of bed and headed to the closet.

"That's not the story I'm gonna tell sparkles." She retorted with a grin. Adora rolled her eyes as she got dressed, opting for a tie-dye shirt in yellow, pink, and orange and a nonbinary flag bandana in honor of Finnie.

The colors kind of clashed but she didn't really care. She zipped up her boots and turned around only to see Catra in her tiniest shorts.

"Catra those are indecent." She breathed the words with awe instead of reproach, amazed how one woman could be so so very hot.

"I know. Happy pride." She smirked as walked past Adora, bumping her shoulder to nudge her out of the way. Instead, Adora reached out and pulled her close, resting her head on Catra’s shoulder.

"I have deep regrets and think we should go back to bed." She murmured into her skin, only half-joking. Catra let out a peal of laughter that bounced around the room.

"You did this to yourself, princess." She kissed Adora’s pout before bounding down the stairs.

By the time Adora regained her bearings and made it to the first floor, Catra was whipping up a quick breakfast.

"Have you checked in with Scorpia?" She asked as she leaned against the countertop watching Catra beat the eggs. Her tongue stuck out a little as she agitated her fork through the egg mixture.

"Yeah, she said Finn was having a great time with Flora. Apparently, they barely slept at all last night. They're all packed up and ready to go to the event today." She smiled fondly. “I bet you Finn and Flora sleep all the way to Perfuma’s parent’s house.”

“Yeah, I wouldn’t take that bet. Scorpia’ll be lucky if she doesn’t have to carry them both into the farm.” Adora chuckled. "It'll be weird not taking Finn to the parade today." She said wistfully. It was going to be the first Bright Moon parade Finn would miss since they adopted them.

"Yeah, I know. But they wanted to go to this weird farm pride thing so badly. I think Flora talked it up for two days convincing them." Now that they were a little older, Finn and Flora played together even better than they did before, their age gap not being the obstacle that it used to be.

"I mean they think their friend is cooler than their moms who’s surprised." Adora rolled her eyes, only feeling slightly affronted by the notion. Her eyes snapped to the door when she heard a knock.

"I'll get it." She said as she walked over. Before she had a chance to say hi, she was crushed into a three-way hug with Glimmer and Bow. They both looked like a rainbow threw up on them.

"Are you excited for the Bright Moon Pride Parade! The Best Friend Squad is back together!" Bow cheered, locking one arm around Adora and Glimmer’s backs.

"Yeah, Catra get in on this." Glimmer hollered loudly. Adora could hear the pans clattering from the kitchen.

"I'm not getting in on anything unless you like overcooked eggs," Catra yelled back.

"Oh!! Catra's making breakfast! It isn't even my birthday." Bow smiled, releasing his wife and friend and heading towards the kitchen. Glimmer and Adora followed suit.

"Hey, I cook all the time for blondie one and blondie two." Catra protested waving her spatula in the air. Adora stood behind her wrapping her arms and placing a kiss on her shoulder. She can see Catra’s cheeks move into a smile.

"Bleh, you're both gross." Glimmer complained but her eyes were soft.

"It's Sapphic love! We are celebrating queer love today Glim." Bow cooed with hearts in his eyes.

"Ew, you're both weird." Catra rolled her eyes and shook off Adora’s grip as she piled eggs and bacon onto multiple plates. "Now get eating I don't want to deal with road closures trying to get a good spot."

"Is Finnie still going to that pride scavenger hunt with Scorpia and Perfuma?" Bow asked around a bite of bacon.

"Yeah, they were more interested in seeing the farm and doing the scavenger hunt. I'm sure they'll have more fun with kids their age anyways." Catra explained as she handed out the orange juice.

"I'm gonna miss my Trans buddy." Bow pouted for a moment before continuing to eat.

Adora looked over at Catra who blew her an obnoxious kiss before sipping her juice. Adora would miss having Finnie with them, but she had to admit it was nice to go to the parade in a group of only adults.

"Hey, I forgot when are we doing wine night?" Glimmer tossed at Catra who smirked widely.

"Next weekend maybe? I think 'Dor's schedule is clear so she can take care of Finn while we go do our thing." She turned to look at Adora with a gleam in her eye. Adora groaned.

"You both just bring up wine night to bother Bow and me," Adora complained although she couldn't quite keep the smile off her face.

"It's not my fault you two are busybodies." Catra sniffed. “What Glim and I get up to is our business.”

"We aren't busybodies! You both just shroud wine night in mystery." Bow all but screeched. Glimmer and Catra shot each other a conspiratorial look then cackled as Adora rolled her eyes.

"I thought we were in a rush?" Adora cut in. Catra looked up at the heirloom clock hanging on the far side of the living room wall.

"You are so right, princess. Let's get moving." Catra bustled in the kitchen as Adora picked up plates.

"Does everyone have sunscreen?" Bow asked while rooting through his bag. He found his sunscreen and started to apply it liberally.

"The only white person here is Adora you should ask her." Catra sassed at him. Bow made a disappointed noise.

"Skincare is important for everyone Catra if I find out you don't have sunscreen, I will slather you." Bow threatened. Although it didn't look threatening because he hadn't quite rubbed his sunscreen all the way in.

"I'll let you get me when we find a spot. Now let's go!" Catra urged, forcing everyone out of the house.

"Wait!" Bow wrapped his arm around all three of them out on the porch. "See now it's a Best Friends Squad hug!"

Catra rolled her eyes but hugged Bow back, Glimmer and Adora doing the same. She felt so warm between the sun and her friends all pressed close. They finally broke away and all started heading towards the car.

As they walked, Catra slipped her hand into Adora’s back pocket, squeezing her ass. "Ready to go, babe?"

"I'll go anywhere with you." She answered easily, shooting her a warning look at the ass squeeze. Catra grinned back unabashedly.

She took a moment to really look at Catra, eyes wide, smile perpetual as she walked towards the car in her crop top and shorts. She couldn't help the goosebumps on her skin despite the warm weather.

Catra turned around and looked back at her, probably trying to figure out why she was staring like an idiot.

"You coming or what?" Catra placed a hand on her hip in impatience, but her eyes were still shining, beckoning Adora closer. She raised an eyebrow but followed Catra dutifully, reaching out to hold her hand.

She'd never stop being thankful they somehow found a way back to each other.

Notes:

Surprise!! One last Pride fic before Pride month is over (it is not over where I am I don't care what time AO3 runs on okay). I was NOT expecting to write this I found out about this challenge yesterday but I couldn't resist. I've had a lot of fun with the challenges this month :)
