“I’m Number Three, and I heard a Rumor that we don’t need a governess.”
An odd cloudiness seemed to pass through Maria’s brain, and she frowned at the row of children in confusion. They didn’t need a governess. But what was she doing here if they didn’t need a governess?
What they need, a small voice in the back of her mind pushed in, is a mother.
Sir Reginald’s voice cut through the fog. “Nice try, Number Three, but you’re getting her anyway.”
Well, they certainly needed someone, and she was already here.
