Work Text:

Sitting with his arms wrapped around his own wife’s shoulders as she sat in front of him on the steps, he watched his best friend – more like a brother – laughing and dancing with his wife in the backyard. Padmé leaned back into him, “How are they still the exact same as the day they got married? Good thing they already loved each other as much as they did since…”

Obi-Wan had entrusted him with the rings. Never one to disappoint, as the best man, he was positive he had it when he left the hotel room. He even patted down his own pockets just to be sure! Without a doubt, secured in his chest pocket. What kind of an idiot would misplace something that important? Psht. And Obi-Wan had the audacity to direct the entire “Don’t be stupid” speech at him at the rehearsal dinner. He’d show him just how responsible he was after all!

Full of bravado, he headed toward the elevators. His dirty clothes slung over his shoulder ready to drop in the car, he’d even get there early like he promised. On his way down the hall, room 224’s door swung open, and a small hand grabbed his arm with a giggle, pulling him inside.

“What are you doing?” He asked, astonished, as his fiancée made quick work of pulling his bowtie off and unbuttoning his vest.

“What does it look like?” Padmé replied, sliding his jacket off and tossing it off to the side.

“If I’m late, you know Obi-Wan… or probably, more likely Satine, is gonna kill us both!” He said, only half-heartedly as she started walking backwards, pulling him by the hand with a devilish smile on her face.

“Then you better make it quick?” She cocked an eyebrow.

Surely there were a few minutes to spare, right?

Running at full speed up the stairs, they arrived just in time to slow down and calmly walk in, Padmé smoothing out his now slightly wrinkled jacket.

“See? Right on time!” She mused.

“You’re gonna be the death of me one day,” he grinned.

Taking his rightful place beside his friend, Anakin stood proudly as the service began. Obi-Wan turned toward him as the rings were asked for. Confidently, he reached into his chest pocket and oh no…

“Anakin, you did WHAT?!” Obi-Wan exclaimed, eyes a mile wide.

Yep, she’d definitely be the death of him.
