Work Text:
“Okay, so... why exactly are we all gathered here? Do you guys have like, an announcement or something?”
Hoshi grimaced at the tone of his own voice. He hadn't intended to sound so… rude whatsoever, but he would've been eating ice cream and holding hands with his girlfriend right now if it wasn't for his parents. His annoyance was justified since his plans for the day were completely ruined.
And he had no idea what for.
They had all been sitting here in their living room for the past ten minutes, and neither of his parents had spoken a single word so far.
“Uh, mom? Dad?” He heard his younger brother Youta say from beside him. He looked like he was on the verge of throwing a tantrum. “Can you just say whatever you wanna say? Ito and I are gonna go skateboarding—”
“Woah there, young man.” His father interrupted him, a frown settling on his face. “Do I need to remind you that we’re your parents?”
“Um, no?”
“Good. So you already know that I can literally punish you—”
Youta’s eyes popped out of their sockets. “No no! I’m sorry, dad! I’ll shut up!”
Aito snickered into his hand. He had always enjoyed watching his twin brother suffer, ever since they were little boys. Hoshi was pretty sure his brother had sadistic urges.
“That’s more like it.” His father smirked as he crossed his arms over his chest.
Youta lowered his head and stared at his hands blankly, his cheeks an angry red probably from both embarrassment and fury. He absolutely hated being scolded by their father. Hoshi knew it hurt his pride no matter how hard he tried to hide it. He knew all of his siblings way too well.
He decided to be a good big brother and come to his younger brother’s aid.
“But dad, he’s right.” He said as he looked right into his father’s intense golden eyes. “We’ve been waiting for one of you to say something for ten minutes.”
Hoshi had always been the bravest one of them all, but making direct eye contact with his father gave him goosebumps nevertheless. The dominant Alpha energy his old man radiated was strong enough to make people weak in the knees.
Bokuto Koutarou was actually the sweetest, most angelic father ever, but he could be the scariest Alpha wolf when he needed to. His rage was never really directed at them, though. Hoshi thought him and his siblings were the luckiest kids to have an amazing father like Bokuto Koutarou.
“Well ten minutes ain’t really that much, is it?” His father said, raising one of his thick eyebrows.
Hoshi turned his gaze to his mother when he heard him cough a little awkwardly. It seemed like Bokuto Keiji had finally decided to join the conversation.
“We’re just thinking of a good way to tell you this.”
His voice was as gentle as a lullaby, a complete contrast to his father’s booming voice. His parents were literally the epitome of “opposites attract”.
“Tell us what, mommy?” His little sister Kumi asked from the other end of the couch, fisting the fabric of her denim skirt. “Is it something bad? Did something bad happen—”
“No, princess! It’s nothing like that!”
His father patted his own legs, inviting the little girl over, and Kumi wasted no time in jumping off the couch and straight into the Alpha’s arms.
“It’s actually a good thing so you have nothing to worry about, okay?” His father said to his sister as he brushed a gentle hand through her long black waves.
Kumi smiled up at him. “Okay, daddy!”
“No way!” Youta exclaimed suddenly, pointing an accusing finger at their father. “This is gender discrimination! Why’re you being so cute with her but not with me?!”
“Because you’re a dumbass.” Aito deadpanned.
Youta shot a glare at his twin brother. “You shut up!” He then turned back to their father. “Answer me, dad!”
It looked like the Alpha was caught off guard by the sudden accusation. He scratched the back of his head as he mumbled something incomprehensible.
“Whatcha say, dad? I can’t hear you!” Youta teased all while grinning lopsidedly.
His father gritted his teeth. “You little—”
“Anyway, we’ve gone way off topic.” His mother intervened. “If you would all please calm down, I think I’m ready to say it.”
Hoshi breathed out a sigh of relief. Phew, another crisis between the two craziest Bokutos was avoided professionally by his mother.
Aito, the calmer, and wiser one of the twins, gave their mother an encouraging smile. “We’re all ears, mother.”
The Omega still looked a bit nervous, though. He was fiddling with his fingers and biting on his bottom lip as his eyes traveled along him and his siblings. He seemed as if he was trying to make sure everyone was ready to hear what he had to say. Hoshi didn’t like seeing his mother so uncomfortable. Especially with them.
“It’s okay, mom.” He said, trying to put him at ease, even if just a little bit. “Whatever's bothering you, you can tell us.”
The corner of his mother’s lips twitched upwards. “It’s not like it’s bothering me, exactly. I just can’t really predict how you all are going to react.”
“Just what’s it that’s making you so nervous, mom?” Youta asked in exasperation. “We’re your children! We are the ones who’re supposed to feel nervous when we wanna tell you something! Not you!”
Hoshi was sure his younger brother was going to cry if this went on any longer. He had absolutely zero patience.
He lifted a hand up and stroked Youta’s back comfortingly. “Chill out, Uta-chan. Let’s give mom a little more time, okay? I’m sure they’ll let you guys go skateboarding once this is over.”
Youta pouted, muttering a small fine under his breath. Hoshi barely heard it.
His chest swelled with pride when his mother sent him a very grateful smile. There was nothing that made him happier than getting his parents’ approval. He felt on top of the world.
Another minute passed in silence before his father grabbed his mother’s hand and gave it a soft squeeze.
“Hey, it’s okay, love.” He heard the Alpha whisper to the Omega. “Let’s just tell them. I’m sure they'll be happy about it.”
His mother looked at his father for a moment, who offered him a big, encouraging smile, then faced him and his siblings.
“Alright. So.” He cleared his throat. “What your father and I want to tell you guys is that you’re going to have another sibling.”
One, two, three beats of silence passed before Hoshi blurted out, “What the actual fuck?!”
An angry expression appeared on his father’s face. “Language, Bokuto Hoshi. You’re speaking to your parents here.”
Okay, yeah, his father was right. He had crossed the line with that one.
“Sorry, sorry!” He lifted his hands up in surrender. “But, really? Another sibling? Are you seriously pregnant again, mom?”
“Do I look like I’m joking, sweetheart?”
“Oh my god.”
Hoshi felt like crying. This wasn’t what he had been expecting to hear from his parents. Not at all. He was going to have yet another sibling, at the age of six-fucking-teen? It was going to feel like having his own child more than having a sibling!
“Dad, have you ever heard of protection?” He cried out before he could stop himself.
Youta burst out laughing at that, while Aito simply rolled his eyes. Poor Kumi, obviously, had no idea what was going on.
His parents didn't seem to find that funny, though.
“I seriously cannot wait for this stupid puberty of yours to be over.” His father complained. He was even angrier now than he had been a moment ago. “That isn’t something you can say to me, you hear that young man?”
“But—”
“Onii-chan is right!” Youta joined in. His laughing fit was clearly over now and he was glaring at their parents. “Aren’t you guys too old to still be making babies?!”
His mother gasped at that. “Youta! That wasn’t very nice of you to say, honey.”
“Ask me if I care, mom! I do not want another sibling!”
His father opened his mouth to say something but was interrupted by the little girl.
“I don’t want a sibling, either.” Kumi said softly, shocking everyone in the room. “I’m happy with my big brothers. I don’t want a younger sibling.”
Hoshi gaped at his little sister. He couldn’t believe even that little angel was opposed to the idea of having another sibling.
“Kumi-chan?! You can’t be serious!” His father was looking down at his sister with his mouth wide open. “I thought you’d be happy about this, baby.”
Kumi looked away from the Alpha and pouted adorably. “Well, sorry to disappoint you daddy, but I’m not.”
“You guys really don’t want another sibling?” His mother asked, sounding pained. “Aito? What about you, sweetie?”
The sad expression on his face made Hoshi feel bad about reacting so negatively to the news, but he did not want a baby sibling. That was… way too embarrassing for someone his age. Everyone at school would make fun of him if they heard it.
Aito clearly didn’t want to upset his parents any further, but he still ended up being honest about his thoughts.
“I can’t say I do, mother.” He bowed his head apologetically. “I’m sorry mother, father. But I don’t think we need one more sibling. We’re already crowded enough as it is.”
“Yeah!” Youta agreed with his twin brother. “Ito’s brain finally worked!”
Aito slapped the back of his brother's head. “Shut up, idiot.”
“You shut up, blockhead!”
Youta got off the couch. “Well thanks mom and dad for wasting my time with this crap!” He whined before rushing out of the living room.
“LANGUAGE, YOUTA!” His father yelled after him, though Hoshi doubted Youta even heard him.
“I’m going, too.”
“Tell your brother you guys aren’t allowed to go skateboarding, Aito.”
Even if that disgruntled Aito, he didn’t show it. He simply nodded at their father.
“Okay, father.”
Kumi got off the Alpha’s lap before adjusting her skirt. “I’ll go play with my dolls.” She said before leaving the room after her older brothers, leaving Hoshi alone with their parents.
His parents had gone quiet now, and they both looked so upset. Especially his mother. The sight was making Hoshi feel so guilty, but there was nothing he could do about it. It wasn’t like he could lie to them and pretend to be happy about it. Lying to your parents was bad, wasn’t it?
“So, um, yeah.” He mumbled as he got up on his feet. He avoided looking at his parents’ faces at all costs. “If you guys need me, I’ll be in my room.”
The moment he closed his door he pulled out his phone from his pocket and opened up his text messages. There was only one person he wanted to talk to right now, and that was his precious girlfriend. His girlfriend who always understood him and supported him.
Me

He sighed happily when he saw that Akane was typing back a reply.

Babies are super cute Hoshi 🥺 why would you even think that’s embarrassing I don’t get it
You have 3 younger siblings and you’ve always been a great big brother my cute little owl!! 🥺
What’s so bad about having another one omg
Your parents are probably so upset rn L
Hoshi frowned. He read the texts his girlfriend had sent him over and over again, and the longer he thought about the things she had said, the guiltier he felt. Had he really made his parents upset with the way he reacted to the pregnancy news? Could… could having a baby sibling at sixteen be… cute?
He laid down on his bed and put his phone aside as he recalled the times his twin brothers and little sister were just born. He had been so excited to finally have someone he could protect, someone he could teach how to walk and talk, someone he could be best friends with and share all of his secrets with. The feeling of having someone trusting you to take care of them, someone relying on you to teach them new things and guide them through life was indescribable. Hoshi had always liked being the oldest child in the family. He had always enjoyed taking care of his younger siblings.
So, why was he so against the idea this time?
What was so bad about having yet another sibling to love? To protect? To share his life with?
Absolutely nothing.
He couldn’t care less about what his insensitive friends at school would have to say about this. Hoshi was born to be an older brother! His girlfriend was damn right as always. He had no idea what he would do without someone so amazing like Kuroo Akane by his side.
Me
…im so in love with u<3
GOTTA GO TELL MY PARENTS I CHANGED MY MIND BEFORE THEY CRY OR STH
brb kitty ❤
My kitty 🐱❤
I’m in love with you too owl boy 😍
I’ll be here when you get back!
I’m proud of u!!
His morals boosted by his girlfriend’s encouraging texts he tossed his phone onto his bed and abandoned his room to collect his siblings. Bokuto Hoshi was now a man on a mission, and he wasn’t going to stop until he succeeded.
He burst into the twins’ room without even bothering to knock on their door.
“Yo! You ever heard of knocking, Onii-chan?” Youta whined from his bed.
Hoshi stared at him, his face expressionless. “I don’t see why I should knock before entering my eleven-year-old brothers’ room.”
“Well, one of us could’ve been butt naked!”
He rolled his eyes. “I’ve seen you naked a million times, Uta-chan.”
“But we’re both growing boys now—”
“Stop being so dramatic, Uta.” Aito cut in, not looking up from the book in his hand, therefore not seeing his twin brother sticking his tongue out at him. “Did you need something, Onii-san?”
“Yes, actually. But wait. I’ll bring Kumi-chan over, too.”
Five minutes later they were all gathered in the twins’ room, Youta and Aito sitting on their beds while Kumi laid down on Hoshi’s lap on the floor.
“Okay, so. I’ve thought a little about this sibling thing.” Hoshi started. All three pairs of curious eyes turned towards him the moment he said the word sibling. “I think we all overreacted back there, kiddos. Mom and dad looked really upset when I left.”
Youta huffed. “We were simply being honest, Onii-chan. Should we have lied to them?”
“Of course not. But like… what’s so bad about having another sibling? We already have each other and isn’t that awesome?”
“Hm.” Aito hummed, a finger on his chin as he considered his words. “I guess, yes. I’m pretty happy to have all of you in my life.”
Youta’s owlish eyes shimmered upon hearing that. “Really? Even me?”
The other twin let out a short sigh. “Of course, Uta. We might bicker all the time but you’re my best friend in the whole world.”
“Aw! Ito!”
Youta jumped off his bed before throwing himself at his twin brother. He wrapped his arms around him and hugged him tightly.
“I love you so much, bro!”
Aito’s face turned purple from the lack of oxygen in his lungs. They looked so ridiculous like this, Hoshi couldn’t help but laugh. His little sister joined him a second later.
“I love you too, silly.” Aito managed to say, still being squeezed to death by his twin. “Let me go now, though. I can’t breathe.”
“Oh! Sorry!”
Hoshi cleared his throat and continued to speak after the twins seperated from each other.
“Anyway, as you can all see, we all love and care for each other so much.” He said, weaving his fingers through Kumi’s soft waves. “We’re all so lucky to have each other, don’t you think? Why would it be so bad to have another person in our family?”
He was asking this question not only to his siblings, but to himself too. Now that he was actually thinking about it, he had absolutely no reason to not want another sibling.
“Uta, Ito, just think about it. You guys will be able to teach our little sibling everything you know. Skateboarding, reading, writing, playing games.” He said excitedly, trying his best to make his brothers see how fun having a new sibling could be. He didn’t realize this, but he was trying to convince himself too. “Just like how we’ve done with our little Kumi-chan. You two enjoyed teaching her things, didn’t you?”
Youta and Aito looked at each other before slowly nodding their heads.
“Uh, yeah. I… I guess. You might be right about that, Onii-chan.”
“But I’m curious though, Onii-san.” Aito turned to him with a scowl on his face. “What made you change your mind so fast?”
Youta’s mouth shaped into a small o at his twin brother’s words. “Ooh! Yeah! What the heck happened, Onii-chan?”
Kumi giggled into her hand. “Onii-chan said a bad word.”
Hoshi glared at Youta, who lifted his hands up in surrender, frowning.
“It wasn’t even a bad word! I said ‘heck’! Not fu—”
“Okay stop right there, kiddo.” Hoshi stopped him before he could actually say the bad word. He then took a deep breath. “To answer your question, I talked to Akane, and well, she kinda made me see the good in this situation.”
Kumi let out a deafening squeal. “You talked to Akannie-chan? Why didn’t you tell me, Onii-chan? I miss her so much!”
“We just texted, Kuku. Calm down.”
“Oh.”
“Well anyways, I think I kinda agree with you now, Onii-chan.” Youta said as he stared up at the ceiling. It seemed like he was thinking hard. “It could really be so fun to teach our new baby sibling everything we know.”
Aito grinned. “Right. Like reading, writing, doing math, playing chess—”
“EW! Absolutely not, grandpa!” Youta shut his eyes and flexed his bicep. He reminded Hoshi so much of their father. “I’m talkin’ about the cool stuff! Like playing video games, skateboarding, breakdancing, arm wrestling—”
“Okay.” Hoshi intervened. They had both made their points so they could shut up now. “So you guys are okay with it.”
“Yes!”
“Yes.”
They both answered simultaneously.
Hoshi looked down at his little sister, who was still peacefully laying on his lap.
“What about you, cotton ball? Do you agree with us?”
Kumi took one of her long waves between her fingers and twirled it.
“I… I think so, Onii-chan.” She muttered, a cute pout on her lips. “The only reason I didn’t want a younger sibling was that… that… ugh. It’s so embarrassing.”
“Hey come on. You can tell us anything.”
Kumi sighed softly. “I just like being the youngest child, okay? Everyone always babies me and I like that. If mommy births another child, I won’t be the youngest anymore. That’s why I said I didn’t want another sibling.”
She waited for one of her brothers to say something, but when no one spoke, she continued.
“It was selfish of me. I know.” Her cheeks were a soft pink now, probably because she felt shy admitting all that. “But now that you said all those things, Onii-chan, I think I would also like to be the big sister of someone. And if mommy births another girl, then I won’t be the only girl in the family anymore. It… I think it would be cute. I could braid her hair and put makeup on her face!”
Hoshi’s face broke out into a huge grin. His sister was literally the cutest thing on earth!
Ugh. He was going to pinch those cute, chubby cheeks. He couldn’t hold himself back anymore.
“You're such a little angel, you know that?” He said to his little sister as he reached down to kiss the tip of her nose. “You’re so adorable, Kuku. And you’ll always be our precious little baby no matter what, okay?”
He heard his twin brothers yell out their agreements.
Kumi laughed out loud at his brothers. “Hehe! Okay, Onii-chans!”
“Well now that we’re all on the same page, let’s go tell mom and dad that we changed our minds.”
They found their parents where they had left them, in their spacious living room, and as the oldest child Hoshi explained to them that they had talked about it and changed their minds about having a new baby sibling. The happy glint in their eyes and big smiles on their faces was an absolute sight for sore eyes. Nothing made Hoshi happier than seeing his family members happy.
“I… I don’t know what to say.” His mother said a while later. One of his hands were on his belly, which wasn’t very evident yet, and the other hand was intertwined with his father’s. “I’m so glad you guys changed your minds about it. Your father and I… we…”
Worry filled Hoshi when he noticed his mother’s eyes were glimmering with unshed tears.
“Mom?”
“It’s okay, bud. He’s okay.” His father said softly. The soothing scent he emitted was enough to ease him and his siblings. “It’s just…”
The Alpha took a deep breath before he started to explain. “Your mom and I wanted to have one more child after Kumi-chan. We, uh, we tried for a long time after she was born, but it didn’t work out. So we kinda had to give up at the end. We were still the happiest though. I mean, we already had you guys, and you know you all mean the world to us.
“And then, 9 years after the birth of our little princess,” he winked at Kumi as he said that, who giggled cutely in return, “a miracle happened and your mom got pregnant. We weren’t expecting this. Like, this was as unexpected for us as it was for you kids.”
His mother took over after that. “We were really happy when we found out. The only thing we wanted was for you guys to want this as much as we did. You four are the biggest part of our life, and it means so much to us that you guys want this baby, too.”
Hoshi felt a sting in his heart when his mother sobbed. He had no idea how important, how miraculous this baby was to his parents. He had no idea they felt this way. Gods, they were probably so heartbroken when him and his siblings reacted that way to the news. He was so mad at himself.
“Thank you, my babies. Thank you for being the best children ever. I love you all so much.”
And then the Omega started crying.
“Don’t worry about him.” His father told them, reaching out towards his mother and pulling him into his chest. “It’s the hormones. He’s just a bit too sensitive.”
Hoshi nodded, though his father’s reassurance didn’t stop him from approaching his crying mother and embracing him from the other side. His younger siblings joined them a moment later, and soon they were all wrapped up in each other as the Omega continued to cry his heart out.
Hoshi leaned in to press a tender kiss to his mother’s tear stained cheek and whispered, “We love you even more, mom. Thank you for being the best mother ever.”
That only made the Omega cry harder. Hoshi gulped nervously.
“I— I swear I didn’t mean to make him cry harder! I only wanted to make him smile!”
His father threw his head back and laughed. “Don’t worry about it! Like I said, he’s too sensitive right now.”
His mother’s sobs and sniffles slowed and came to a stop after some time, yet nobody made a move to break the embrace.
Kumi’s tiny voice was what broke the silence.
“If it's a girl, can we name her Bambi?”
His mother chuckled softly.
“Sure, baby. We can name her Bambi.”
Hoshi had a strong feeling it was a girl. He couldn’t wait to have another little sister to protect.
He couldn’t wait to meet Bokuto Bambi.
