Fireworks

[~500 words]

The sky erupts in a wave of fire, light, color, and sparkle. Lots of sparkle, flicks of shimmering golden light fluttering down from the explosive burst like fairy dust.

“Cold?” Sam asked abnormally low to his companion sitting snuggly beside him. One inky black bang swept to the side and looked up at him with dark, warm eyes. Sebastian’s handsome face gave a smirk.

“I don’t get cold,” he teased playfully. Without any hesitation or resistance, the darker male scooted even closer to Sam, until their thighs pressed against each other and Sebastian could smell Sam’s body spray even before he leaned over and rested his head against his shoulder. “Besides,” he said much more softly. The darker male gave a long, slow exhale as the sky erupted in lights of every color in the spectrum. “You keep me plenty warm all the time.”

Sam smiled, his chest expanding like the bursts of colors in the dark sky.

“What?” Sebastian questioned curiously after a small shake from his human pillow. He looked up and the blond looked like he was ready to burst like one of the fireworks in the dark, night sky.

“Nothing,” he lied unconvincingly. Another pause, and then the widest smile cracked through his resolve. “That was just so cheesy, especially for you.”

Just like that, the tenderness dispersed. Sebastian sat up with a light shove to his partner and the rest of Sam’s resolve combusted all at once.

The blond laughed energetically, bubbly bursts of happiness popping like tiny poppers between them. Sam’s laugh was alway contagious, even to Sebastian’s dark demeanor.

“Fine, fine,” Sebastian conceeded after failing to hide the grin on his face. “You love me for it though.”

Sam laughed again, but visibly softened. “I do, despite the cheesiness.”

Sebastian cocked one dark brow in amusement. “Despite?” He questioned, “or even more so?”

Sam slowed down, melting back into his usual, happy self. He thought about it probably longer than he should have. “Both,” he attempted first. Then, deciding that didn’t make any sense at all, he added, “I don’t think I could love you anymore than I really do right now.”

‘Oh!’

And Sam had called him cheesy!

Sebastian didn’t have to say it, Sam read it on his face. It was another firecracker of laughter that erupted from the blond’s chest in contagious bubbles.

“Whatever,” Sebastian played along, shaking his head, rolling his eyes, and shifting slightly back to prepare to stand. “Let’s go home?”

Sam paused. “Already? What about the finale?”

Sebastian stood up, two feet firm on the concrete walkway. He looked down at Sam and his eyes visibly darkened.

“Maybe I’ll give you a better finale at home.”

Sam did not need any further persuasion.

If you enjoyed this little Drabble, let me know! I write so many short bits that I never feel are worth posting (because they’re too short.)
