Work Text:

The early afternoon sun was shining through the windows of the temple. Most would think the island would be peaceful, but all hell's breaking loose as the airbenders were stuck in a food fight started by none other than Meelo. Down below, the island's ferry came to a stop. On it were two passengers. The first sighed, she could see the devastation from where she stood. She turned then to her friend, only to receive an eye roll and a soft chuckle in return.Pema could only leave her four children unattended before the eldest went to go make out, the second ventured to the unattended rooms to steal beauty products, the third rummaged through the kitchen for another snack, and the youngest got into something he really shouldn't be.

Inside the dining room, food was flying everywhere as the masters could not hold them down. Well, probably because only one of them was actually trying, while the younger of the two was flirting with her boyfriend, blissfully unaware."Tenzin looked close to popping a vein as he struggled to control his children"

“Stop throwing food!” Tenzin yelled, no one listened. “Jinora, stop kissing Kai!”

Jinora rolled her eyes at her dad and dragged Kai under a table to continue kissing him. Ikki appeared under the table as well.

“Ikki, go away!” Jinora broke from Kai’s lips, seeing him give her an annoyed look and then a cheeky smile.

“Stop making out with Kai, and help me defeat Meelo in this food fight!” Ikki reached for the gravy and tossed it at Jinora, spilling it all over her new outfit. “Jin… Jinora I'm so sorry!’

“IKKI!” Jinora yelled, chasing her out from the table, Kai still sat under the table letting the sisters fight. “Ikki, why do you always have to ruin my stuff?”

“No, it was an accident Jin, oh my spirits not everybody is jealous of you!” Jinora picked up a glass of Lychee juice and tossed it in Ikkis's direction, spilling on her hair.

“You are the worst sister ever Ikki!” Jinora yelled, Rohan walked to the middle of the dining room, sat on the floor, and began to cry, his sisters, still fighting, didn't pay attention nor did Meelo nor his father as they were chasing each other.

The screams and loud talking wailed on until the door slammed open and an angry Pema stood in the opening, the screaming stopped, the talking stopped, and the food contained. Everything went dead still. Rohan crawled over to his mother, mumbling mama under his breath.

“What. Is. Going. On?” Pema picked Rohan up and rocked him slowly. Everyone spoke at once and began blaming each other. “Silence, get cleaned up, and meet me at the mediation pavilion in thirty minutes.”

The stream of airbenders rushed out, grouping together and running to the dorms.

“Separately Jinora and Kai.” The couple blushed as Pema outed them for sneaking away. The couple looked back and Jinora rolled her eyes for at least the hundredth time that day. They sulked away from each other.

“Now, I am going to tell you a story that calms my even quietest child.” Pema winked at Rohan. “Everyone get comfortable as I enlighten you on a story that happened 15 years ago. Just a year before Jinora was born”

“Really? This one?” Ikki said out loud and looked at her elder sister.

“Ikki shut up.” Jinora groaned as she placed her head on Kai’s shoulder. “Kai you know exactly what I expect of you?”

“What to give you kisses and go make out later?” Meelo taunted.

“Maybe later but right now Kai needs to give me a back rub since I'm carrying this whole family on my back.” Jinora looked at Kai who immediately began to rub his hand up and down. “Much better.”

“Alright settle down everyone, this is the story of how I accidentally took Tenzin away from Lin.” Pema chuckled, and Lin sat next to her as well. “I had just docked on Air Temple twenty-six years ago…”

“Welcome to Air Temple Island, I'm Kya, and this is Bumi.” Kya introduced herself, extending her hand for Pema to shake. “Tenzin should be here but he’s probably hanging out with Lin.”

“Or making out!” Bumi laughed, getting Pema to giggle quietly. “So, where are you from?”

“Yon Shao, a small town in the eastern part of the Earth Kingdom,” Pema whispered, she was nervous. She was terrified to be away from home. She didn't know these people!

“Ooh, I’ve never heard of there!” Bumi’s eyes widened.

“It's not that exciting, just a small fishing village.” Pema shrugged, the three heard an out-of-breath Tenzin coming over, well, running over to them.

“There’s our baby brother!” Kya laughed, seeing the young tattooed man running towards them. “Oh, Tenny, there's a new acolyte you've just got to meet!’

“I know! I know!” Tenzin rushed over, his forehead shining with sweat and his cheeks red. He collected himself and extended his hand. “Hello, I’m Master Tenzin, a pleasure to meet you.”

“I'm Pema, nice to meet you as well.” she shook his hand, pulling him close to her body and placing a kiss on his lips, her eyes closed focusing on him and hearing the gasp from his siblings. She felt his hands move to her waist pulling her closer…

“That is not how it went at all!” Lin intertupting, snapping Pema out of her trance. “She was more of a nervous wreck.”

“No, I just immediately stole him with my beauty and youth!” Pema flipped her hair, shrugging her shoulders.

“She's lying,” Meelo yelled, releasing a fart.

“Meelo that's gross as fuck.” Jinora groaned, moving away from her brother.

“OOOO JINORAAA” Ikki screamed, turning to her mom. “JINORA SAID THE F-BOMB!”

“It is alright since I said it to Meelo while he was being gross!” Jinora protested, throwing her hands up in defense.

“Alright, Alright, settle down you too. Ikki leave your sister alone, and Jinora don’t swear at your brother.” Pema sighed, rubbing her temples. “Lin, why don't you take over since you accuse me of lying!”

Lin chuckled, sitting down and raising an eyebrow. “Bet. "Pema fell tripped off the boat and fell into tenzin's arms right after she docked. She was so embarrassed that she avoided him as much as she could. Though, she still watched from a distance, and that's when I knew I had to step in."

Lin could hear her breath, spying on her. Lin knew the young girl was jealous of her and Tenzin's relationship, I mean he was attractive but he was 16 years older than her, so it was a little weird, but what if she did get to him. She was curvier, she didn't have a resting bitch face and probably wanted children one day with him. Lin huffed, frustrated she was letting this little girl beat her down mentally. So, when she rounded the corner she made sure to purposely bump into her, the flowers in her basket spilling everywhere.

“Oh, I am so sorry!” Lin exclaimed, getting down on the ground to help Pema out.

“It's ok, really I should've watched where I was going!” Pema didn't dare to look her in the eye. Only keeping her head down and avoiding her look. Lin and Pem reached for the same tulip, Lin grabbing her wrist and bringing her close, an iron grip along the wrist, and a threatening look in her eye.

“Listen here Pema.” She spat at Pema who winced from the slight pain. “Stay away from Tenzin, you don't know what you’re getting into too.”

“I-I-I’m sorry! I promise I–I-I’ll stay away!” Pema gulped, she was a little scared of Lin. she was a metal bending police officer, daughter of Toph Beifong, and very rude sometimes.

“Good, and stay out of my way. Got it, princess?” Lin gripped her hand tighter.

“Yes!”

“Bye then!” Lin let go and watched Pema run away, forgetting her basket, just trying to escape Lin and get away from her threatening tone.

Lin was satisfied, laughing a bit to herself and hurrying off to Tenzin's office to see what he was doing at the moment.

“You were such a pushover!” Kai gasped. “Lin you were so mean!”

Lin chuckled and Pema smiled, stroking Rohan's hair. “Yes, yes I know but I was indeed Pema the pushover. I would do anything.”

“Kiss ass.” Lin laughed, and Pema glared at the language around the kids. “Your eldest dropped the f-bomb!”

“It was for a valid reason!’ Jinora protested again. “Come on Kai, I'm bored.” She extended her hand and Kai took it, following his girlfriend away from the big group of airbenders.

“And I was the kiss ass? He follows her like a lost dog.” Pema told Lin, she laughed and the rest of the airbenders joined in making fun of the teenagers.

“Leave the poor boy alone.” Korra appeared at the door. “You all got to hear the famous story of the home wrecker Pema?”

“Yep!”

“She actually had us for a minute!”

“Can't believe she and Lin were enemies!”

The airbenders spoke at one time, and Korra chuckled. “Wait till you all hear the famous Korra, Asami, and Mako love triangle. That's a mess.”
