Notes:

This was written for the phandom gift exchange, and was written for phinalphantasy7! A short and sweet sickfic, so I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it! I also haven't written a fic for the phandom in quite a few months so I apologize if I'm a little rusty.

And thank you cait for beta'ing this for me, appreciate you lots 🥺❤️

Work Text:

Phil knew as soon as he heard a sneeze coming from the living room one morning, that Dan was developing a cold. This couldn’t have come at a worse time, because Dan would be leaving for his tour in just a few weeks. Phil hoped that Dan would be able to get over his cold quickly.

But knowing Dan and how stubborn he is, he’s going to make this as difficult as possible.

“Dan?” Phil calls worriedly from the kitchen. Phil can’t help but worry, because now is a terrible time for either of them to get sick, with so many things happening. Dan’s health comes first, always.

“I’m fine!” Dan shouts, his voice clearly hoarse.

Phil rolls his eyes, and sets the bowl in the sink as he had been doing the dishes. He dries his hands off with a washcloth before walking to the living room. He stops when he gets to the doorway, and sees Dan in his usual couch position, his laptop resting on his lap. Phil can tell by just one look that Dan is not fine.

“Dan.”

Dan finally looks up from his laptop, and huffs when he sees the look on Phil’s face. “I told you I was fine.”

“And I say that’s a load of crap. You look ill, Dan. You should be resting,” Phil warns.

“I am resting,” Dan argues. “I’m not doing any physical movement, am I?”

Phil rolls his eyes, before walking over to Dan and grabbing the laptop from Dan, shutting it.

“Hey!” Dan shouts, glaring up at Phil. “I was working on something!”

“And it can wait,” Phil says, unphased by Dan’s raised voice. “Dan, you’ve got to take care of yourself. You’re leaving for tour in just a few weeks. You need to be in tip-top shape to perform every night, yeah?”

Dan scowls. “I’m going to be in perfect health. It’s just a sneeze. I’ll be f-”

Phil huffs. “It’s never just a sneeze, Dan. I’m not an idiot. Come on, get up. You’re going straight to bed.”

“This is ridiculous. I’m not going to bed! It’s only five p.m. My sleep schedule is going to be fucked up,” Dan argues, crossing his arms against his chest, ready to put up a fight.

“Oh, please. Don’t even try to use that as an excuse. As if you’ve ever cared about your sleep schedule before,” Phil argues, shaking his head at the younger man. “Come on then, get up. You’re also not getting this laptop back until you’ve got some proper rest.”

“This is ridiculous,” Dan grumbles before finally standing up from the couch, which surprises Phil, because he honestly thought Dan would put up a bigger fight. Now he knows Dan is really sick.

“And you are taking medicine before you get in bed!” Phil adds as Dan starts sulking his way out of the living room, chuckling when he hears Dan groan. He already knows Dan is going to get sick of him hovering very quickly but Phil wants him to get better before he has to start getting ready for his tour.

Dan’s worked hard for this tour, and the last thing he wants is for Dan to have to cancel a few shows because he’s too sick to perform. He knows how excited Dan is about his upcoming tour.

Phil goes straight to their bedroom a few moments later. He leans against the doorway when he sees that Dan is already buried under the covers. “Did you take your medicine?”

“Yes mum,” Dan grumbles.

“It should start kicking in soon. I’m sure you’ll feel better when you wake up in the morning,” Phil says.

Dan lifts his head up and looks over at Phil. “Can you bring another blanket? It’s kind of freezing in here.”

Phil frowns. “Shit. You don’t have a fever do you?” He asks, instantly walking over to Dan. He bends down to feel his forehead. “You’re a little warm. Stay there. I’ll get you another blanket.” He turns around, and walks to their guest bedroom where he knows some extra blankets are kept. He grabs the warmest blanket he finds in the basket full of blankets, and takes it back to Dan.

“This fucking sucks,” Dan grumbles when Phil drops the blanket on him, tucking him in. “You don’t have to baby me, you know? I promise I’ll take my medicine when I’m supposed to.”

“I’m not babying you. I’m looking after you because you’re my person and I care about you,” Phil argues.

Dan looks up at Phil, frowning. “Aren’t you worried you’ll get sick if you’re around me too much though?”

“So, let me get sick. I’m probably due for a cold anyway. We’re halfway through the year now and I haven’t had my yearly cold. I’m shocked it took one of us this long to get sick, honestly. I just want you to feel better as soon as possible. I know the tour is still a few weeks away but you’ve worked really hard, Dan, and I don’t want you to have to cancel any shows,” Phil says.

“Yeah, that would not be great,” Dan mumbles. “Thanks. Sorry for being difficult.”

Phil chuckles. “That’s alright. If I do get sick, then I’ll just make you take care of me in return.”

Dan rolls his eyes. “Fine.” He coughs, and groans, pulling the blanket over his head, letting out a few more curse words, which makes Phil laugh.

“Get some rest. I’ll check on you later,” Phil says. He wants to kiss Dan, but he knows he shouldn’t, because even though he said it, he really doesn’t want to get sick.

Phil closes the bedroom door on his way out. He lets out a sigh as he stands there for a moment, before deciding that he needs to go to the store. Dan’s sick, and Phil wants to make sure that they have absolutely everything to help him feel better quicker rather than later.

So, Phil grabs his phone, wallet, and a mask before slipping on his shoes, and heading out.

When Phil makes it to the store, he already has a list in his head for what he’ll need to get. He grabs soup, some tea, and all the necessities for a cold. He even picks up a get better card for Dan as well as some chocolates and some of Dan’s favorite treats that would make him feel better.

Phil walks up to the cash register once he’s done. He instantly sees the worried look on the cashier's face, and Phil already knows what she’s thinking. “It’s uhm, it’s not Covid. My partner- he’s gotten a cold.”

“Oh!” She exclaims. “Oh, I wasn’t- I just noticed what you were getting. I figured. This is sweet of you.”

Phil chuckles, and his cheeks turn pink. “He doesn’t even know that I’m out right now, and he’ll probably yell at me for it later because he loves being difficult. But, I know he’d do the same for me if I were sick.”

“That’s what partners are for, eh?” She smiles softly at him, and watches as Phil pays for his items. “Here’s your receipt. I hope your partner feels better.”

“Thank you so much. Have a nice night,” Phil says, grabbing his bags, before walking out of the store.

Phil makes it back home. After setting everything down in the kitchen, he goes to Dan’s bedroom, and luckily the doors still shut, so Phil assumes that he’s sleeping. Phil was only gone for about an hour, but that would have given Dan plenty of time to get up and wander when he’s supposed to be resting.

Phil goes back to the kitchen. He takes the card out of the bag and writes Dan a sweet note on it, and takes the chocolate and treats, setting them on the counter for Dan to find in the morning.

Phil takes the lysol and sprays around the house, wanting the air to be fresh and clean for Dan.

Once he’s satisfied with his work, he makes himself a little snack before going to the living room and making himself comfortable on the couch, turning on the TV.

When Dan wakes up in the morning, he only feels slightly better. His nose is a little stuffy, and his throat itches, which means his cold is still lingering. He feels well enough to get up and maybe eat something, so he does. He goes to the kitchen to make himself some breakfast. Dan stops in the doorway as soon as he spots everything on the counter. His heart melts, because he knows this was all Phil’s doing.

“Fuck,” Dan says to himself out loud. He walks over to the kitchen counter and grabs the card. It’s just a little get well card. But, of course Phil’s left a note on it, because that’s just who Phil is.

‘Get well soon, bear. Here's some of your favorite treats to make you feel better.
Love, Phil x’
