The worst part about having to hide out in a cave is the cold. At their base, the cold was kept out pretty well, only getting a bit chilly. In their temporary hideout, though, the night brings an uncomfortable chill.
With Scar asleep, Grian had headed out to the Pool Party. Once that went south, he detoured to Red Velvet Keep, quickly grabbing basic resources the pair may need while they lie low. And, though he’d never admit to it, he did check on the remaining Jellie Pandas and give them some bamboo.
Back at their little cave, Grian set up a pair of beds and a small makeshift farm, so they had bread. He had started up the furnaces, cooking some meat, when nighttime came.
Grian shivers, moving a bit closer to the furnace. How in the world was Scar sleeping through the cold?
A phantom pain runs through him, something like the sting of the cold without the actual cold. Only thinking of one reason this could be happening, Grian heads out of the cave.
He sees his soulmate curled up on the ground. The man is shivering, and it sends a pang of worry through Grian. Quietly, he moves closer, crouching next to Scar.
Placing a gentle hand on the other’s shoulder, he whispers, “Scar?”. Scar groans a little, shifting around and shivering again. Grian frowns, running his hand through Scar’s hair. “Come on, wake up. You’re gonna get a cold out here.”
Scar leans into his hand with a hum, and Grian’s heart skips a bit. Scar’s eyes crack open slowly. He blinks a couple of times, letting Grian brush his bangs away from his face.
When he’s finally come to, Scar squints up at Grian and a goofy grin spreads across his face. “Well, hey you.”
The rasp of his voice and his smile has Grian’s face warming. “Hey yourself,” he says with a little laugh. He removes his hand from Scar’s hair, only to place it on his shoulder. “Come on, sleepyhead, let’s get you inside.”
Scar hums, letting the other help him sit up. He yawns and a shiver runs through him. “Oh boy, it got cold, huh?”
Grian chuckles, helping him to his feet. “That’s why I’m trying to get you inside, I can feel you freezing!” Scar pouts a little at that as he stands.
“Aw, sorry G,” he mumbles, obviously still sleepy. Grian places a hand on his back and leads him into the cave. “I didn’t mean to make you cold.”
“No, you didn’t,” Grian assures him. Scar sits on their bed and Grian tosses more coal into the furnace. “It was like the pain of being cold, like that weird numbness feeling? Just without the actual being cold.”
Scar’s pout is a full-on frown now. Grian crouches down, untying Scar’s boots and pulling them off. “That doesn’t sound fun.” He reaches out to Grian, still on the ground, and carefully runs his fingers through the blond hair.
Grian looks up at him, eyes wide and face matching the color of his sweater. “It’s uh, it’s, yeah, it was weird.”
That goofy grin is back on Scar’s face. He lets go of Grian’s hair and lays down in the bed. “Come lay with me?” Scar asks, looking at the other with pleading eyes. “Let me make it up to you?”
The many implications of that short circuits Grian’s brain for a moment. All he can do is nod.
Grian gets up and moves to the other side of the bed. He settles in, letting Scar throw the blankets over them both. Turning towards Scar, he finds the other staring at him fondly.
Scar opens his arms towards his soulmate, a silent invitation. Grian just stares for a moment before a shiver runs through him. At that, he scoots closer, letting Scar pull him into his arms.
Scar lies on his back, pulling Grian onto his chest and holding him close. Grian sighs, nuzzling into his soulmates shoulder. A hand rests in Grian’s hair, playing with it, while the other creeps to the edge of his sweater.
“Scar!!” Scar’s hand goes under Grian’s sweater, the cold skin sending a chill up him. Scar laughs, rubbing his back as the other squirms. “Void, your hands are like ice, get them off!”
“Come on, G, I need to warm them up!” he exclaims, moving his hand away nonetheless. Grian rolls his eyes, shifting to look up at Scar.
“I thought this was to warm me up, not torture me.” Scar grins, leaning down and pressing a kiss to Grian’s forehead.
“You look pretty warm to me!” he laughs, watching a blush spread across his face. Grian groans, hiding his face in Scar’s chest. “What, are you still cold? Here.”
Scar presses kisses to his soulmate’s hair, making him giggle. When Grian lifts his head to tell him off, Scar presses a little kiss to his nose, then all over his face.
“Scar!” he whines, only making the other laugh.
Scar kisses the corner of Grian’s mouth, then finally kisses him properly. Grian cradles Scar’s face in his hand while the kiss, and Scar’s hand gently cover his own.
When they pull away, they have matching grins. Scar turns, pressing a kiss to Grian’s palm. “I love you.”
Grian leans up to kiss Scar quick, then lays his head back on his chest. “Love you too, dork.”
Scar wraps his arms around his soulmate, who curls up close to him. Pressing one more kiss to Grian’s forehead, they drift happily to sleep in each other’s arms.
