Sonic sighed heavily, letting the cloth in his hands fall to the floor.
“What’s wrong?” Amy asked from across the room, holding up two dresses.
“Do we have to go to this stupid event? I know the president wants to show that he’s grateful and all, but…” Sonic knelt and picked up the fallen suit.
“It’ll be fun! There’ll be free food, too! Are you sick?” Amy set the dresses down and turned to him. The two had decided to get ready together since Amy always struggled with choosing an outfit, and Sonic always struggled to put himself together neatly, they figured it would be easier to help each other out.
Sonic huffed. “I just hate the feeling of suits. Pants especially. It makes me feel trapped and overwhelmed. Plus they’re a pain to fight in.” He said as he stiffly threw the button up around his shoulders.
Amy put her hand to her mouth in thought. “You don’t have to wear a suit.” She said thoughtfully.
Sonic’s shoulders slumped. “You know how humans are! They expect Mobians to wear clothes to their fancy events!”
“You could wear a dress. They don’t hug your legs and depending on the dress, they can be pretty easy to throw off in the event of an attack. I think we’re the same size.” Amy opened her closet and began rifling through her dresses, occasionally holding one out in front of Sonic before shaking her head and putting it back.
“A dress? I can’t-” Sonic paused and thought for a moment, before grinning slyly. “Am I allowed to do that?”
“How will it look on them if they stop you?” Amy replied, her head deep in her closet. “At least try it on and see how you feel. In the meantime, look at those dresses on the vanity and let me know which one you think I should wear.”
Sonic turned towards the table and ran his hand along one of the dresses. The dress he was holding was long and red with a mermaid-shaped skirt. It was sleeveless with little rhinestones running along the front. The other was white and more flowy, with red trim.
“I like the white one,” Sonic called to her.
Amy poked her head out and narrowed her eyes at it. “Perfect,” She said finally. “None of these fit you, wear that one, and I’ll wear the other one. That one has an open back anyway, so it can fit your quills.”
Sonic shrugged. “Fair enough,” he said before slipping on the garment. He was then supplied a pair of matching long white gloves with red cuffs.
Sonic swayed for a moment before spinning, watching the skirt poof out. “I actually really like this. I like how swooshy it is.”
“Swooshy dresses are the best.” Amy agreed as she pulled something out of her vanity drawer. “Can I style your quills?”
Sonic glanced in the mirror and shrugged. “Might as well go all the way. Just be quick. You know I can’t stay still for over a minute.”
“That’s fine,” Amy replied as she poured a sweet-smelling cream into his quills. “I’ll just style them down to complete the look.”
Humming to herself, Amy began to smooth down his quills. “Wow! Your quills are so fluffy!” She noted as she pulled away.
“Yup! Got them from my mom!” Sonic replied as he stood, fluffing his quills with his hand.
Amy paused. “I don’t think I’ve ever heard you talk about your parents,” She said tentatively.
Sonic bit his lip and turned away. “About time we start heading to the party. If I run it’ll mess up my quills.”
Amy sighed softly and took his hand.”Oh, this'll be fun! We haven’t been to a party in a while, with the war and all!”
Sonic returned his attention to the pink hedgehog and laughed. “Yeah! So fun!”
