Work Text:

All of the boys were in town, and we all wanted to have a little fun. There was a bar not too far from the Dream Team house where we were all hanging out. With some convincing, we all went out to the bar to have a fun night. Just the boys.

Quackity came up behind me and slapped my back. I jolted forward and turned to look at him with a disapproving look. "The fuck was that for?" He chuckled a bit and wrapped his arm tightly around me in a friendly way. "So, are you going to go for it with Dream tonight? Bars can be sexy." I pulled my head back in shock and looked over at my friend. "Dream? No, I'm not going for anything. We just flirt as a joke. I know that Dream is unlabeled, but I'm still straight, so." I shrugged my shoulders and glanced over at Dream for a moment. I laughed a bit at the thought of Dream and I together as we entered the bar.

Quackity, Punz, and Sapnap made their way to the bar and started ordering drinks for everyone. Well, everyone except for Dream because he doesn't drink. "Come on over, boys!" Sapnap shouted from the bar. I was leaning on the bar standing next to Punz and watched the other half of my group of friends approach the bar for their drinks. Quackity gave Foolish his drink, and they clearly had a bit of a moment. They both claimed to be straight, but I felt like if Foolish had a crush on Quackity, then they would most likely end up together. Punz gave Sam his drink, and Sam started jokingly flirting with Punz about taking him out to dinner. Pretty normal for them lately, but I doubted either of them was serious about each other. Sapnap had Karl's drink, and Karl snuck a kiss from Sapnap before taking his drink. "Thanks, handsome." I glanced over at the pair and noticed Sapnap blushing. Me, being the great friend I am, decided to make fun of him. "Oh my god, Sapnap is so red!" I burst out laughing, and Sapnap sent me a death glare. Karl giggled a bit and covered his mouth with his hand as his face turned a bit red. As much as I enjoyed making fun of Sapnap's relationship with Karl, I deeply longed for a connection like they had.

Dream came up to me and flashed a warm smile at me. I guess he noticed that the bartender had set down my drink behind me because he stepped very close to me so he could reach behind me and grab my drink. He brought his hand back around and offered it to me without stepping back at all. I took my drink and chuckled a little bit. "I guess I missed that." His smile grew wider, and it pulled at my heartstrings a little bit. 'So, are you going to go for it with Dream tonight?' My heart started racing, so I decided to down my drink in an attempt to cool myself off. Dream noticed that I was chugging my drink, and he chuckled a bit. "George, hey, slow down! We're not trying to get fucked up tonight." I finished my drink anyways and set it back down on the bar. "Well, maybe I am." I pushed past Dream and joined a couple of my friends who had gone to the dance floor.

I was greeted by Quackity who was doing his stupid excited stream clap since I was coming over. I started laughing, and I walked quicker to get to my group of friends. "We're popping off, let's fucking go!" I could feel the adrenaline pumping through my veins as my feral side started to kick in. "YES LET'S GO!" I broke into laughter shortly after I had shouted that and we all started dancing to the blaring music.

Sapnap nudged my side and gestured to a couple of girls that had been looking in our general direction. "Dude, I think those girls are into you. You should talk to them." I glanced over at the small group of girls that seemed to giggle the moment that I looked over at them. "We didn't come here for that, idiot. We're just having fun, remember?" I scoffed at him before glancing back at the bar. Dream was still over there chatting with Sam and Punz. They were probably talking about American football or some other dumb topic like that.

I turned back to the group that I was dancing with and leaned a little closer so that they could hear me talking over the music. "How about another round of drinks and we go downstairs?" This particular bar had a downstairs section that was a little more relaxed. The main floor of the club played raunchier music and the basement played more well-known yet laid-back songs, and I was getting a bit annoyed with this crowded atmosphere.

I approached the trio that was hanging out around the bar and Dream wrapped his arm around me as a joke. "There's my boy!" I shoved his arm off of my shoulder and rolled my eyes. "You're such an idiot." I turned to the bartender and ordered another round of drinks for everyone. "So the rest of us were going to go downstairs and chill for a bit. You guys can come with or you can hang out up here by the bar." The trio exchanged a few glances before Punz acknowledged me. "Sure, let's move downstairs. We're just talking anyways." The other half of my friend group approached the bar and started taking drinks downstairs. I was about to follow them when Dream grabbed ahold of my wrist to stop me. I glanced up at him, but he was just watching the rest of our friends walk downstairs. I could sense that he wanted to talk to me alone, so I took a seat on the barstool next to him and pressed my lips together.

Once my friends were out of sight, Dream sat down on the stool next to mine and leaned towards me with his elbows resting on his knees. "That group of girls earlier..." He adjusted uncomfortably, and I furrowed my eyebrows with a light scoff. "Yeah? What about them?" I wanted to urge him along with whatever he wanted to talk about because I wanted to go downstairs and hang out with everyone else.

He seemed to grow increasingly uncomfortable, so he just gave me a shoulder shrug. "Um, never mind. I lost my train of thought anyway." He chuckled a bit, but it sounded very forced. He got up out of his seat and shoved his hands into his pockets. "Uh, okay... Let's just go hang out with everyone else then, idiot." I got up from the bar, and he followed me downstairs to the basement section of the bar.

I made my way back over to my group of friends and sat down next to Quackity to catch up with the group when someone coming down the stairs caught my eye. The group of four girls that were eyeing me upstairs had made their way down to the lower level. I didn't really think much of it until the bright blonde seemed to be approaching my group of friends. The girl walked around the back of my chair, trailing her fingers along my shoulders. I tried to lean away from her touch and continue the conversation with my friends, but that only seemed to spur her on. "Why don't you get up and come dance with me, cutie?" I glanced over at her and forced a small smile. "I'm not looking for anything tonight, so I'm just going to chat with my friends." I looked back at Quackity who was staring down at his drink. We both knew that this was awkward, and I was really hoping that this girl would just leave me alone. Instead, she ran her hand down my arm and curled her fingers around three of my fingers. "Come on, baby. I could make you feel so good." I leaned away from the sound of her voice and almost said something when I heard. "Isn't it clear enough that he's not interested? Fuck off." The voice was deep and stern, and the girl instantly took her hands off of me. "Who the fuck do you think you are?" I glanced behind me to see the girl resting her hands on her waist, attempting to stand up to my best friend, Dream. He folded his arms over his chest and narrowed his eyes in a threatening way. "Why don't you take your slutty friends and get back upstairs before I make you regret ever thinking about coming to this club. You might want to take my offer because I'm not afraid to defend my friend against anyone regardless of sexuality, gender, or race." I turned my head to face forward and mouthed the words 'holy shit...' to my drink on the counter. Hearing those words come out of the same mouth that told me he was tearing up when I saw colors for the first time caused the strangest mix of emotions in the pit of my stomach.

I was too busy thinking about what Dream said to even noticed that the girl had scoffed and gone back upstairs with her other three friends. A gentle hand laid across the top of my back, and I looked to my left to see Dream currently occupying the seat that Quackity had previously sat in. "George, are you okay? That girl was way out of line." I took a deep breath in and shrugged my shoulders up to my ears. "Why wouldn't I be fine? I had a girl hit on me. Every guy's dream..." I knew that I wouldn't be able to convince him of anything when I couldn't even convince myself. "George... come on." I heard someone else sit down on my right side, and I glanced up for a moment. "You alright, man?" I pressed my lips together and nodded slightly. "I'm fine, Sapnap. Look, I'm fine, okay? Look at me. Nothing is wrong, so quit acting like something's wrong with me." I got up from my seat and turned my back on my two friends. I knew that they were trying to be supportive, but it was making me feel like shit. Like I couldn't handle myself.

I pushed open the bathroom door and gripped the counter in front of one of the sinks. I could hear the vibrations of the heavy bass coming from the upstairs music and it only reminded me of what happened. I raised my head to watch my reflection stare straight back at me. I felt like I was being completely ridiculous. Maybe I could just fuck around with that girl for a little while. Sure, I was hanging out with my friends, but it wouldn't hurt any of them if I just had a little fun of my own. None of them even had to know if I was quick about it.

I was a little on edge about this, but I had made up my mind and wasn't going to back down now. I just had to make an excuse to go back upstairs. Maybe another round of drinks and I could play it off by claiming it was the wait time? Sure. Whatever. I let go of the counter and opened the bathroom door only to be bodyblocked by Dream. "Oh, hey! I was um just going to head upstairs and order more for whoever wanted something." I tried to duck past him, but he firmly gripped my shoulder and pushed me back into the bathroom. I stumbled a bit since I was being forcibly pushed backwards, but I was able to stay on my feet. "George, I know what you're doing. You want to go back upstairs and fuck around with that girl to feel like a man, right?" I looked down and remained quiet because I didn't want to confirm what he was accusing me of. "George..." He seemed to shift uncomfortably which drew my attention back to his eyes. "You shouldn't just fuck around with people to make yourself feel better. That's not fair to anyone." He shifted his eye contact away for a moment as if to sort his next few thoughts. "You need to find someone that cares about you and won't treat you like a piece of shit. You deserve more than you think you do, and I want you to find someone that knows that and will give you that because I want you to be happy." I watched as his face turned slightly red which made me chuckle a bit. 'So, are you going to go for it with Dream tonight?' How did this all get so fucking twisted? I thought that I knew what I wanted, but the way that he was looking at me was driving me even further into arousal.

I took a small step toward him, and my heart began pounding harder. "Can I kiss you?" His eyes widened, and his face turned completely red. I didn't want him to freak out too much, so I spoke again to clear up what I meant. "You were right. I don't just want to fuck around with someone meaningless or even fuck around in general. I've never been attracted to guys, but something about you just..." I trailed off at a loss for words, but I didn't need to go much deeper than that. Dream seemed to pause for a moment before gripping my chin and pressing his lips against mine. I gently wrapped my fingers around his wrist and leaned against his body. Something about this just clicked more than any other relationship I have ever had. And that's when it hit me. I was in love with my best friend.

That realization made me pull away from the kiss, but I didn't go anywhere. "Dream..." I felt so overwhelmed with everything hitting me all at once, and I didn't know how to process it. He didn't move either. It was as if we were in a standstill until someone made a move. "George, I don't want to be just friends anymore. I don't want to speak for how you're feeling, but I felt something click between us. I want to be with you, and I want to make you as happy as you deserve to be." He was being so damn corny, but I was still a bit too dazed to make fun of him at this exact moment. "Dream, I-" "For gods sakes just call me Clay." He gave me a teasing smile, and I rolled my eyes at him. "I want to be with you too. I love you, Clay." He kissed me again, and I didn't dare pull away this time. I finally found the deep connection that I had been craving, and I wanted to explore this as much as I possibly could. I'm so fucking happy that I made it to Florida.
