He comes back with Jimin, who has scissors for hands.

Work Text:

I feel like this is an au I've been thinking of writing forever and I finally did it. This will be more like a compilation of drabbles with these characters that may or may not be in like a strict timeline order? (Idk I'll let you know the situation in the fic lol) This series will be similar to the Edward Scissorhands movie, but not entirely canon compliant, so this series is✨Inspired✨ by the movie.

(Also I don't have a beta atm & I edited this at work so...if there are any typos that's embarrassing & i'm so sorry jdjdjdj I'll fix them later)

Anyway~ hehehe hope you guys like this~

It’s just a dare.

A dare that many children have used to torture each other. But Taehyung isn't a child anymore and he’s wary of playing these games with Jungkook.

All he has to do is: go inside the old man’s mansion on the top of the hill, retrieve a memento, and run back out with his tail between his legs. Taehyung swears it’s the creepiest old house he’s ever seen. It looms over their colorful and quiet town as if it were The Marsten House in ‘Salem’s Lot. Though it’s so much more eerie than a Stephen King novel, because it’s real. A quiet gothic castle, watching the town below, breathing, waiting.

Something tragic happened in there—Taehyung just knows it. As children, they used to make up myths about how the house was built in blood, and what creatures live inside. Monsters.

Monsters are men.

Taehyung pushes open the heavy wooden doors and begins to creep inside. He looks back at Jungkook who wears the devil’s grin slashed across his face.

“Come on, it’s not that scary,” Jungkook groans.

“Then you do it!” Taehyung whispers, eyes darting around himself.

Jungkook shrugs, but doesn’t move.

And here it is, Taehyung venturing inside alone with the image of Jungkook fading from the little crack in the door. It’s as cool as a tomb and just as dirty. The place is crippling, it’s breathing more of a wheeze, the floorboards creak, and dust hangs in the air like snow. Graffiti tags from dauntless teenagers scrawl across the walls of this first room heavily. But the cobwebs festooned in every corner bore no spiders, no nest.

There’s nothing alive about this house. And Taehyung realizes as he enters the foyer, there’s nothing scary about this place. It’s just a home. An old abandoned castle on the top of the hill where not even the old hermit drinks tea.

Taehyung finds the courageous little boy in himself again. If he’s going to get a memento from this place of nightmares, he’s going to get it from the top floor, deep inside the house. Jungkook can’t call him a pussy then.

He runs up the stairs with a smile, free of the eerie shroud that’s been enveloping him since childhood. Not even the graffiti travels this far.

He turns the corner upstairs and throws open another door.

The room is full of junk, and the roof has begun to collapse. Taehyung can see the bright summer day through it. He doesn’t take his time looking around and picks up the nearest souvenir: a Ken doll. He laughs softly to himself and turns to go home in triumph.

A floorboard creaks in the darkest corner of the room.

Taehyung pales.

Courage is so fleeting.

All he sees is a stark white oval staring straight at him. Taehyung’s heart pounds erratically in his chest and the chill of the house cuts like ice down his throat as he gulps in air. He should turn and run. But he’s frozen in place as he watches the oval begin to move and become a face.

“He-hello– I’m so sorry– I didn’t know anyone still lived here– I-I’ll just leave - I’ll go - I’m so sorry to disturb–” Taehyung's rambles are cut off as the thing—or person—steps out of the shadows.

It’s just a man, clad in all leather and latex with studded belts and harness as if to keep him together. He looks almost like a broken gothic doll—if the few scars on his face count as cracks. His hair is a black bird’s nest and compared to the deathlike pallor, it’s a stark contrast.

Taehyung glances lower. A scream tears out his throat.

He doesn’t see the man’s hands that hold these scissors but he doesn’t need to. They’re massive shears and as he staggers nearer to Taehyung they glint in the bright day through the roof. Taehyung thinks he sees his life flash before his eyes.

Taehyung screams and screams for his life as he runs back to the door and finds it closed. He can’t open it, no matter how hard he slams his body against it. Sobbing, he shrinks down to the floor, closing his eyes, wishing he could pull the covers over himself and hide.

Minutes seem to race like seconds in the hands of time. Taehyung’s bracing himself for the deep slashes, stabs, mortal wounds, anything…and nothing touches him. He opens his eyes and finds the man standing where he was in the middle of the room.

When they make eye-contact Taehyung lets out a cry and the creep startles. He looks behind himself as if the terror is behind and not himself.

“Stay away from me with those!” Taehyung says.

The man looks around bemused, then down to the many scissors he holds. Taehyung still doesn’t see the man’s hands holding them…and then a revelation becomes clear.

Those scissors are his hands.

The man lifts them and comes closer to Taehyung.

Taehyung starts screaming again, terror sickening him.

“Don’t take him…please,” the man says.

Taehyung frowns, confused. “Wuh-what?” And then he realizes he’s still holding onto his souvenir. The Ken doll. “Oh– I’m sorry? This is yours?”

The man nods. “Mine,” his voice is timid.

Taehyung stands slowly, unsure if this is a psycho’s trick that'll kill him. When he comes closer to hand-off the doll, the man steps back afraid. “Are- are those your hands?” Taehyung asks.

The man takes a moment before he nods. “Papa fell asleep. He’s not done yet.”

“Done yet? What…what are you?”

The man didn’t answer, didn’t even shrug. He really is a doll.

The old hermit that used to live here was an inventor…but it seems he must have passed while creating his greatest invention.

“And…you live here?”

The man looks around the place as if it’s the first time, taking it all in: the junk and trinkets, the pile of rubble beneath the rotting hole in the roof. Then he nods again.

Taehyung titters nervously. “You don’t say much, do you?”

The man shakes his head, still looking around, he begins to near that dark corner again. Taehyung notices there are posters and papers hung up hastily, from magazines, pages from books…and as Taehyung looks over them, he finds they’re all about the perfect man.

“Not done yet…” Taehyung murmurs to himself and looks down to the Ken doll in his hand. “What’s your name?”

The man glances at Taehyung. “Jimin.”

The Jimin doll.

“Okay, so, Jimin. What about a last one?”

“Last one?” Jimin asks softly. And Taehyung notices the perpetual sadness to his black eyes, to the curve of his dark painted lips.

“Like…a family name. A surname.”

Jimin shakes his head.

Taehyung vaguely remembers the old hermit's name, he thinks it was Park Jihyun…but he could be wrong. The people in town always just call it the hermit’s house and leave it at that––no one really wants to talk about the elephant in the room.

“I think it’s Park. So, Park Jimin,” Taehyung declares. “I’m Kim Taehyung.”

Jimin merely nods. He’s standing beside Taehyung now, the screaming and tears gone, and they watch each other for a while. The sound of little snips from Jimin’s scissors comes and goes, and Taehyung doesn’t really find it scary anymore, but upsetting.

It starts to become so upsetting that Taehyung isn’t sure how much more he can take of Jimin just standing there watching him with those big sad eyes.

Taehyung sets the Ken doll down on the torn-up, ratty little bed Jimin has for himself and turns to leave. He can’t take it anymore.

“Wait. You…you can keep him,” Jimin says, carefully, like he isn’t trying to raise his voice while calling after him.

Taehyung stops, looking back at Jimin. “What? I thought you said–”

“You- You can keep him. If you want.” Jimin says, and he attempts a little smile. It’s a bit silly, like the smile is practiced. It’s almost…cute.

“Okay,” Taehyung says, going back to retrieve the doll. He feels guilty taking it from a boy who would clearly enjoy the doll much more than him as a trophy. But Taehyung would feel worse if he refused Jimin’s gift.

As Taehyung makes his way back to the door, he tries to open it again, and he mentally slaps himself. It’s a pull, not a push door.

I swear, I’d be the first to die in a horror movie.

As Taehyung leaves he hears Jimin’s footsteps…following him. He turns quickly.

Jimin’s standing a couple of paces back, waiting for Taehyung.

A little snip from Jimin’s scissors cuts the silence.

Taehyung walks a little further and he turns suddenly to catch Jimin following him out of the room.

Taehyung laughs. “What are you doing?”

Jimin doesn’t say anything, just looks about himself, playing innocent.

Taehyung’s heart melts a little as he says, “Jimin, you can’t follow me…”

But why can’t he?

How could I even stop him though?

Jimin’s scissors snip again.

Taehyung’s humor fades as he descends the stairs and Jimin’s still trailing behind. He doesn’t stop or look back, “Jimin! Really, stop following me!”

They’re leaving the foyer now and the door Taehyung came in through is in sight. Except freedom tastes a little bitter now. “Jimin.” Taehyung turns on him. “You can’t come with me. If Jungkook sees you–”

“Taehyung? Taehyung! I thought you died in there…you took forever,” Jungkook’s voice calls through the crack in the door.

Taehyung’s heart is hammering in his chest again. But it breaks when he sees the look on Jimin’s face. “Jimin - I…you can’t…”

“Taehyung, who are you talking to? Come on stop fucking with me. Get out of there. Show me what you’ve got.” Jungkook’s boisterous humor is dissolving.

“Jimin–”

“Taehyung! Seriously!”

“Fuck–” Taehyung stalks out the door and quickly out into the garden, trying to lose Jimin’s trail. Offhandedly, he gets it now, the question that was spurred on their arrival of how the plants have been kept so pristinely, the bushes trimmed like magnificent statues. It’s Jimin who’s caring for them, who’s creating this art.

“What’s wrong? What happened in there? Who were you talking to? What did you get? Is it that doll? Creepy–” There’s a stream of questions torrenting from Jungkook’s mouth and Taehyung’s too lost in the chaos to form a response. And Jungkook keeps interrupting him just as his thoughts sort into an inchoate response.

Taehyung frantically searches for the exit. But he makes the mistake of glancing behind himself.

Yep, Jimin’s there. Further away, but still following like a lost little puppy.

Taehyung sighs.

“What?” Jungkook follows his gaze.

And then he starts screaming. Jungkook clutches Taehyung’s arm and is almost screaming in his ear. Jungkook’s terror is real, but Taehyung can’t help but feel bad for the startled Jimin who looks behind himself in fear.

“Stop screaming. You’re scaring him,” Taehyung groans. He starts walking again, dragging Jungkook along. Jimin following.

“WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT THING??!!!”

“It’s a…It’s a Jimin doll.” Taehyung smiles a little.

“What the fuck?!!! Is that who you were talking to?!”

“Yeah, he’s harmless.”

“Harmless??!!! He’s chasing us with fucking scissors!!!”

“He’s not chasing us, and those are his hands.”

“You’ve got to be kidding me!”

Taehyung’s tired. He just wants to go home and watch movies like they planned earlier before all of this. He stops walking and grabs Jungkook’s shoulders. “Look. I don’t know what to do. He won’t stop following me. And it just makes me feel bad telling him to stay in this shitty place where he doesn’t even have a decent bed. Okay? I can’t do anything, and god knows I can’t force him to do anything with… those,” he hears Jimin’s scissors snip nervously. “So just shut up and get over it. This was your dare anyway. I got a souvenir. And it’s him. Happy?”

Jungkook gulps, eyes wide. It takes a moment for him to process, his eyes alternating between Jimin and Taehyung. Then, Jungkook nods once.

“Alright,” Taehyung says, relieved. He relaxes a bit, his shoulders loosening from their tense strain to hold Jungkook in place.

Jimin’s scissors snip and he’s looking around himself with wide eyes.

Taehyung frowns at Jungkook.

“What?” Jungkook blurts.

“You scared him. Go say you’re sorry.”

“I SCARED HIM???!!!”

Taehyung gives him a look. “Just do it.”

Jungkook scoffs. But the longer they stand there the more Jungkook realizes how serious Taehyung is right now.

“Really?” Jungkook whines.

“Yes.”

“Fine.”

Jungkook turns toward Jimin. He doesn’t move until Taehyung shoves him a bit and he staggers closer to Jimin.

“I-uh I’m…sorry? Sorry, for scaring you. I’m…I’m Jungkook. What’s your name?”

Jimin looks to Taehyung, and Taehyung nods.

“Jimin,” he says, scissors silent once more.

“Jimin what?”

“I think it might be Park but I don’t know.”

Jungkook snorts. “How about Jimin Scissorhands.”
