Words Not Needed

Summary:

Dazai can't sleep. What better to do than bother Chuuya?

Tooth rotting fluff.

Consider this my apology for angst

Notes:

Once again writing this at 12am. Sorry for any mistakes, I'll fix them in the morning I pretty promise. If you've read my other fic "Not One Soul" consider this my apology. Maybe I'll keep writing you all fluff to compensate for the hell that will be part 2.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

3:26am.

Osamu Dazai finds himself standing in front of a door leading to a grand apartment thats far too luxurious for him to own.

Tonight was simply one of those nights where he couldn't seem to allow his mind to rest. He tried, really. He tried everything. Counting sheep, focusing on his breathing, everything he could think of.

Osamu Dazai was not someone who enjoyed the company of other people. He would much rather hole himself up in his room for 3 days straight instead of interacting with those around him.

Despite that, he found a deep longing pang inside his chest. Drawn out over years and years of not being able to hold the one dearest to his heart close to his chest in the late hours of the night.

He had always found that in the presence of a certain redhead he was always prone to sleeping better. Dreams were often more pleasant as well.

So here he was, fiddling with the lock of Chuuya Nakahara's apartment door, fully intent on breaking in and curling up into a bundle of warmth with the other man.

When the door had finally clicked open, he was met with a sight he hadnt predicted he would see.

There, on a grey plush couch layed the homeowner curled against the side of the furniture reading a book in dim lighting.

He was wearing nothing but a baggy shirt and similarly baggy pants, hair tied back in a low ponytail and a pair of reading glasses rested on a freckled face.

He looked stunning.

Of course, Dazai's presence hadn't gone unnoticed. The moment the door shut blue eyed stared up at him and a voice smooth as butter spoke melodies into his ears.

"Oi, bastard, what the hell are you doing in my house?"

---

Chuuya had a long day.

Endless piles of paperwork, followed by tedious physical work of having to drag his subordinates out of a sticky situation involving a mission gone wrong.

Yet at the end of it all, he couldn't sleep despite how tired both his mind and body was.

His heart yearned for something he couldn't quite place (He could, but he would never admit the fact he had spent hours thinking about nothing but curling up with a certain brunette he knew).

So here he was, lying on a big "L" shaped couch in his living room leisurely reading a poetry book.

That was, until the very man he had been dreaming of (or the closest thing he could get to dreaming) barged into his home unannounced.

When he had asked the simple question of "Why the fuck are you in my house?" He was met with a tired smile, followed by a drained, deeper than normal voice, saying two simple words back at him.

"Couldn't sleep."

The slimy fish had no right looking so adorable in a black hoodie that fell off lanky shoulders, and grey sweatpants that fit him just right.

Without speaking, the taller of the two clambered over to the couch, snatching away the others book, and unceremoniously plopping down in the others lap.

Chuuya really should have knocked him off the couch, yelled at him to go home, and then returned to his bed to try and get in a few hours before his day off tommorow. That way he could wake up and enjoy his day of relaxation.

However, he was much too exhausted for that and instead made the decision to do nothing but sigh, and run his hands through brown locks of messy hair.

The lanky man who sat in his lap sighed happily, closing his eyes and settling into the others body.

So here the two sat. Vulnerable, tired, and in desperate need of sleep.

Their breaths began to even out, yet both still struggled to properly sleep in the slightly uncomfortable position they were in due to how small the couch was in comparison to them.

"Y'know mackerel, if you're gonna fall asleep on me, I'd rather you do it in my bed."

"Oh? You're inviting me to your bed? How scandalous Chuuya! I mean, I wouldn't expect a brute like you to be capable of making your moves more subtle, but that was still rather forward was-"

A strong leg sent Dazai hurling to the ground, landing with a muffled "thump."

"Wanna run that by me again, asshole? Here I was trying to be curtious but if you don't want to cooperate with me-"

The darker haired of the two shot up and quickly spoke; "No no! I'll cooperate, we can go sleep on the nice bed."

"Good."

The redhead clutched the others hand, dragging him off to his bedroom.

Chuuya sat on his bed under the covers, leaning against his headboard as the other man leaned his head on his chest, holding onto the shorter ones hand that was clinging to his chest.

Chuuya returned to combing his fingers through slightly tangled locks, sighing with content.

Dazai was happy with this. He had what he wanted, the warmth of a specific person right there by his side. Unwavering loyalty to him as he relaxed into the others body.

Yet there was still one more thing he wanted to see if he could draw out of the older.

"Chuuya, it appears I'm still struggling to succumb to slumber. Perhaps if a little fairy hummed me a tune I may have better luck?"

The "fairy" in question only huffed before his mind trailed off into thinking of a song to hum to the other.

Wordlessly, he began to hum a soft song. Whispering lyrics gently into the others scalp.

"Kiss me once, then kiss me twice, and kiss me once again."

Dazai immediately felt himself melt into the others soft touch as a deep voice sang, with more husk to its tone than usual. Most likely due to the late hours.

"Its been a long, long time."

The taller allowed his mind to wander more, lost in the others siren-like enchantment.

As the melody carried on, Dazai felt himself become more and more inclined to say the words that almost unconsciously slipped from his lips.

"Hey, Chuuya?"

The other hummed gently in acknowledgement.

Dazai sighed affectionately, breathing in the other.

"I love you."

Chuuya's breath hitched for a moment, and although Dazai couldn't see it, he could tell the others eyes had widened.

After a moment of surprisingly comfortable silence, the ginger spoke.

"I love you too."

There was a short moment where the two lay there. Simply processing the others words.

Until finally Dazai had turned around, smiling.

"Do you mind if I kiss you?"

"Not at all."

There was a brief moment where both stared into either deep brown eyes, or bright blue ones. A breathless whisper leaving both before diving in.

And it was everything it should have been. Sweet and chaste, swalling each others lips in the softest way possible.

Dazai dragged Chuuya down further into the warm bed, holding him close to his chest.

Chuuys could feel the younger's heartbest, thrumming quicker than normal in his chest.

They fell asleep that night with entangled limbs and soft kisses.

---

The following morning both were still there, the shorter waking up the other with a soft kiss to their lips.

And of course, when Dazai was asked about work, he simply decided that he was going to skip today and text Ranpo, saying he had come down with a cold the previous night.

"Afterall, I don't think I could work properly knowing I could be spending my say cuddling my dear lover."

And so that was how the afternoon was spent. Doing nothing but sharing caring looks and touches, adapting to the new nature of their relationship that both had craved.

After that day, the two simply carried on as though nothing had happened.

Well, maybe with more kisses and cuddles and nights spent with each other, indulging themselves with their partners affections.

Silent glances were all they needed to tell what their spouse wanted.

Since, of course, between the two,

Words were not needed.
