Harmony HC 3

Work Text:

Harry was sitting outside of the tent looking at the Dumbledore book that Hermione swiped at Bagshot’s house. He felt a little miffed at Hermione for his broken wand and he listened for her in the tent. His face fell when he realized that she was crying again. He realized that he is being unfair to her. She had stuck by him through thick and thin. Harry smacked himself in the head. 'OI. I am an idiot for not seeing her as the best friend that a guy could ask for. She could have easily walked out with Ron but didn’t want to leave me alone. I should try to cheer her up a little.' Harry got up off the log, walked into the tent with the book, and tossed it on his cot. He noticed the radio was playing softly in the background and decided to turn it up a little. 'It’s time to rectify a mistake that I made. '

“Hermione,” Harry whispered into her ear as he softly shook her shoulder because her back was facing him. He noticed that she was sniffling when he entered the tent a minute ago. “Would you care to dance with me, please?”

Hermione turned slowly over as she wiped the tears from her face. She gave him a puzzled look. “Why now, Harry?” asked Hermione.

“Because I just realized that I have never danced with you, whether it was the Yule Ball or at Bill and Fleur’s wedding,” stated Harry. “I would like to rectify that mistake. Please.” He gave her his puppy dog face.

"Oh alright, Harry,” Hermione said with a soft smile. She couldn’t say no if she wanted to with those green eyes staring at her sadly. Harry perked up a little bit and held out a hand to help her up from the cot. She gently grabbed his slightly cold hand. “Harry! You are cold!” she exclaimed as she finished getting up. She started to rub her hands along his to warm them up quickly. Harry chuckled at this and realized just how much she has done for him over the years. He grabbed her hands to still them. Hermione looked up when he did this.

“Shall we?” he asked as he wrapped his arms around her to start dancing. Hermione nodded in consent and started to rock to the slow song that was playing in the background. “Hermione, I just wanted to say I am sorry for acting like a jerk since we got back from Godric Hallows.” He put a finger on her lips to stop the protest before it started. “No. I need to do this, Hermione,’ Harry stated as he feels her sigh in consent. “Hermione, look at me please.” She looked up into his green eyes. “I want your full attention because I realized that you are the most important person in the world to me. You were there for me from the beginning even when we weren’t friends yet. You were looking out for me. I realized that I haven’t truly apologized for any of the arguments and I am truly sorry. I am sorry that I didn’t listen to you about the Firebolt to listening to you last year about the book. I let that book become between us and it shouldn’t have. You are the smartest witch that I know and the most loyal too. Especially during the Triwizard Tournament when Ron didn’t, I let my friendship with Ron cloud my judgment. Never again.”

They had stopped dancing during his passionate apology to her. She started crying again. “Oh, Harry!” Hermione exclaimed as she pulled him into a huge bear hug that rivaled Mrs. Weasley’s. “I am sorry too for letting that book get in between us too and I wish I listened to you more about Malfoy. You were right about him,” she sighed into Harry’s ear. As she pulled back to look into Harry’s eyes, she realized how close ally was and started to pull away from him. He grabbed her by the arms and wrapped them around him, which startled her. “Harry? What are you…,” muffled Hermione when Harry leaned into her for a kiss, “Oh.”

“Hermione, do you know how beautiful you are?” asked Harry. Hermione shook her head and started to lower it. Harry gently grabbed her chin, so she had to look into his eyes to see the truth.

Hermione gasped when she noticed how Harry’s eyes showed her reflection in them, “Oh Harry! I’ve always felt something for you but didn’t think I had a snowball’s chance for you. I thought that you thought of me as your sister.”

“Hermione, you are rambling again,” Harry laughed. “No, I only said that to Ron so he wouldn’t think that I was pining for you.”

Hermione gasped, “For how long?”

“Since the second year, Hermione when you were attacked,” answered Harry. “I came to see you at night under the cloak. It nearly killed me to see you like that.”

“Oh Harry, my sweet Harry, I thought that I heard you while I was stuck in that position. It was what helped me through the horrible time. That is why I hugged when I did. It was my way to say Thank You.” Hermione reached up to cup Harry’s face and nuzzled his nose with hers. Hermione leaned into him to give him a sweet kiss on the lips. “I love you, Harry James Potter. I always have and always will,” Hermione whispered in his ear.

Harry softly replied, “I love you, too, Miss Hermione Jean Granger.” He leaned in to kiss her back and deepened it. He pulled his head back, rewrapped his arms around her waist, and slowly rocked to the new song playing on the radio. Hermione beamed up at him and he smiled back as they danced the rest of the night away.
