It surprised him, the fact that a buzzed Maverick was sitting in Goose’s lap and no one seemed to care or even blink an eye at them. It surprised him because of how Maverick was sitting on Goose’s lap. He was used to them doing this, but never like this.
Maverick had his knees on ether side of Goose’s hips, straddling him, and had his face hidden in Goose’s neck. It’s not like they haven’t ever gone chest to chest before, but Iceman never seen it like this. Goose was muttering something to Maverick as he rubs his back gently and Maverick shifts in his lap. Goose even places a small kiss on Maverick’s temple.
Suddenly, Iceman felt like he was watching a private moment. The way Maverick was clinging to his RIO like he would slip through his fingers and into the wind, never to return. The way Goose was even swaying a bit of you looked close enough as he whispered whatever he was saying. It just seemed… personal and private despite being at the bar.
He wanted to ask about it. About what their relationship was. Did Goose’s wife know? Did she care? Hell, did she even encourage it?
It wasn’t like he wanted to know for creepy reasons! No, never. He was just… curious. He’d never seen a relationship like theirs. It seemed even physical. Which was fine! It maybe the 80s, but Iceman did not care about that sort of thing between two men. Not really.
He was captured but how close Maverick and Goose seemed all of the time and not only physically. Emotionally and mentally they seemed to know the other better than theirselves. It was like the were two halves of a whole person.
It was like they were made for each other even. Maverick was a crazy pilot and no other RIO would have been about to go along with him with the same amount, if not more, enthusiasm as Maverick. But Goose could- did in fact. Goose even encouraged him more often than not.
They also seemed to have similar interests. Music, flying obviously, movies, shows, cars, fashion even if they wear different styles, and even the kitchen. Only, in the kitchen, Iceman has witnessed Maverick literally set fire to a batter mix somehow but cook a good fucking chicken. While on the other side, Goose could bake a fucking batch of cookies but could and has made noodles of all things into puddy.
It was intriguing to him how well they seemed to fit. It really was like they shared a soul in to different bodies. Most times, Iceman was 90 percent sure the two could read the others mind and have full conversations without words leaving nor even a facial expression.
He wanted to ask so many questions.
But he wouldn’t, in respect of crossing a line or making them feel like he was judging them.
And, also, because Maverick seemed to need Goose in a way he would never- could never- understand right now.
2:
Goose was let go from medical and Maverick silently took him home. Iceman watched the two from afar as Maverick helps Goose gently sit in the passenger’s side with a minor cut on his head. There wasn’t much to be worried about after Goose woke up a few hours after being brought to the building. He only had hit his head wrong from the canopy and fell unconscious because of it and gained the cut. To anyone else, Maverick is over reacting. To Iceman, who had a small understanding of their relationship, he understood a bit.
Maverick almost lost his Goose. He almost lost his other half. He almost lose a part of himself. He watched as Maverick carefully pulls out of the parking lot with a tiny, sad, smile and continues with his business.
___
Helping Goose out of the car, Maverick makes sure his head doesn’t hit the top of it. He wraps an arm around Goose’s waist and leads him to the military housing and grabs his key to unlock it. Once inside, Maverick brings his best friend to the couch and placed him on it gently.
He leaves the room to put the pain pills and bandages the medic gave him in the kitchen. He comes back to see Goose grimacing at the light and quickly pulls the curtains closed. He lightly sits down next to the injured man and watches him closes.
Goose opens his eyes slowly and looks at Maverick. The two are quiet for a long time before Goose pats his lap and moves so he would be more comfortable. Maverick quickly, but gently, brings himself to sit on Goose’s lap. He straddles him and brings his hands to gently hold Goose’s neck.
Bring his own hand up to cover Maverick’s wrist, Goose hums. “Hey, I’m ok. We both are. We’re a little banged up, but ok. We’re safe.” He whispers as he rubs the wrist. Easily catching his pilot when he falls into Goose’s chest like his strings were cut. Goose hums and moves his head to the side and exposed his neck. “Go on, I don’t mind. I never do, you know that darlin.”
Immediately letting a soft sob out, Maverick latched onto Goose’s neck and kisses at his pulse point, biting and sucking a bit. He mutters over and over, “I’m sorry” as he does.
“Shh. It’s ok. It’s not your fault. You lost control, not your fault. It’s ok. I’m ok.” That last part was quieter but stronger. It seemed to settle Maverick a bit even if his tears don’t stop. His body relaxes and his sucking gets a little less frantic, only looking for the pulse every few seconds. “That’s it, good boy.”
It only takes a few more minutes until Goose does it back to Maverick. He looks for his partner’s vain and latches on similarly but only licks instead of sucks. It seemed to help him remind him that Maverick was safe and in his arms as well.
They stay like this for the better part of the night until one of their stomach growls in hunger.
3:
Goose doesn't even care they are in surrounded by people. He needed to get his hands on Maverick. They both just saved Iceman from a 2 out of 5 dogfight. He needed to remind himself they are both still there. Both alive and kicking. Two close calls within a week wasn’t doing him any good.
He hits the ships deck first and practically pushes the man helping Maverick down out of the way to help instead. He grips the man in his arms and Maverick latches on. He doesn’t care about everyone cheering and patting their pats as they cling in a desperate hug. He doesn’t care that it might be a bit weird nor does he care that someone is calling their name.
He looks down at where he was holding Maverick’s head to his chest and brings it up to look at him in the eye. Maverick’s are shiny with tears and adrenaline. He can’t resist right now. He leans down and brings his own lips to connect with Maverick’s it was fast and done as fast as it started. Fast enough no one saw it, only saw them connect foreheads.
Everyone except Iceman.
Iceman tilts his head at the fast kiss. It doesn’t have to mean that they are in a relationship. Lots of people kiss… though they don't exactly kiss on the mouth. He shakes the thought out of his head and waits a few more seconds for Goose and Maverick to break apart a bit and smiles at the two.
“You can be my wingman anytime.”
Maverick gives him a huge smile. “Bullshit, you can be mine.”
4:
Iceman was not expecting to walk in on Maverick practically pinned to a wall with Goose clutching the black hair in his fist and angling Maverick’s head how he wants as they fully make out like horny teenagers.
He watches for a long moment. They are in a middle of a barbecue. Little Bradley, Goose and Carole’s son (though, he would also say Maverick was the kids second dad by the way the three parent him and how Bradley proudly calls him “papa”), was right outside. It wasn’t the fact that kissing between two men that made him concerned Bradley might walk in, but the way it was going on.
Little noises that sounded suspiciously like whimpers fell from Maverick’s mouth as Goose mutters little things angrily and grunts when Maverick answers with tiny apologies. It was probably about how Maverick jump into the pool from the roof and was told by everyone the roof was too far. (He was fine, obviously… and it wasn’t too far.)
Iceman slowly walks back out of the house. He could pee later. For now, he keeps his five year old nephew out of the house until the two birds are done doing… whatever they are doing. At least he is gaining some “cool uncle Ice” points from this.
5:
Gasping, Maverick rolls his hips in Goose’s lap. They don’t normally go this far while kissing, but when they do, both love it. It never gets more than a little grinding and wet underwear. Ya, the act is sexual, but to them it’s just them being closer and being able to hear and feel the other. An emotional support cumming to say.
Goose leans away from his best friend’s lips and trails down his neck with little bites and licks. “Keep making noise and someone will hear.” He huffs a laugh in Maverick’s jawline as he says it.
Grunting, Maverick sighs at the familiar and comforting feeling. “I’ll just tell them that we are looking for any bruises and cuts very intently. Besides, you know I like it when you use teeth.”
Like he was teasing him, Goose drags his teeth down the shell of the pilot’s ear. Maverick shivers and than pouts. “You know, you get clingy after missions.”
“Hmmm.”
“Hmm indeed. I mean, you didn’t even wait until we got back to our room. Usually you can. Something up babe?”
Goose shrugs and runs his nose on Maverick’s head and breaths deeply. “Missed you.”
Maverick pulls back a bit and frowns. “Is this because I hung out with Ice last night and slept in his room? Because, to be fair, I lost track of time and than they called lights out.” Goose looks to the side with a blush. “Aw. Don’t worry buddy, we only played cards.”
“Missed you.” Goose says a little more quietly as he continued to blush but hold Maverick a bit tighter at his waistline.
Frowning again, Maverick runs a hand through Goose’s damp hair from the fast shower that would make a DS from basic happy… if that’s possible. “Hey now, what’s wrong?”
The other man only shrugs and brings his lips back to Maverick’s. The kiss is slowly and gentle as Goose brings a hand up to cradle Maverick’s cheek. They are both left breathless at it and Maverick grinds down again.
“Nugh- no, don’t change to subject. What’s going on in that head of yours?”
“I just… missed you.”
“Yes, we’ve gathered that much. Only, why?”
Goose sighs and hides his face in Maverick’s neck. “I don’t know. I just… miss you. I don’t know how to say what I’m feeling.” Goose mutters as he sighs again.
Playing with the ends of the damp hair, Maverick shifts in Goose’s lap again and his eyelashes flutter at the friction before he gently kissed Goose’s temple. They both think to themselves before Maverick says, “Well, we haven’t really spent time together lately. Ether we bring Brad and Carole, just Brad or Carole, Ice, or even at the bar. Yes, we are around each other practically 24/7, but we haven’t been us lately.”
Lifting his head back up, Goose smiles. “I knew I kept you around for some reason. You know what I feel better than me most times.” Maverick gives him a smug smile and Goose connects their lips back together to whip it off.
This kiss causes a chain reaction of Maverick writhing and than moaning softly into Goose’s mouth. Goose swallows it and smiles himself when Maverick rides it out on his thigh. The janitor’s closet and sitting on a crate wasn’t the best place nor comfortable place for this, but nether cared. Like the climax was pent up for months, the two let go at the same time and shiver with little moans.
Catching his breath, Maverick nuzzled under Goose’s chin. “Mmm love you.” Maverick mutters as he flies with his afterglow. Goose says it back with same amount of adoration and holds Maverick even closer if possible.
On the other side of the door, Iceman catches the last part as he walks by and heard the tiny noises and about 20 more questions go through his head as 5 leave at the three simple words. Well, he wasn’t going to get answers right now, so he might as well have some fun with his friends.
He knocks with the anger of the hulk and deepens his voice to yell, “WHOEVER YOU ARE, OUT!” He stays just long enough to hear crashing and cursing. He quickly moves his feet and turns the corner just before the door opens.

It’s Saturday afternoon at the Bradshaw household. Maverick is, once again, in Goose’s lap. Bradley is happily playing with his toy plane while sitting in his Papa’s lap. (Iceman learned from an off hand comment Maverick is legally Bradley godfather. Huh.) Carole is watching the three with warm eyes and goes over before leaving with her friends to kiss her husband and than Maverick and Bradley in the cheeks.
“Love you three! See you after dinner. Ice, please make sure my boys don’t get into too much trouble.”
Carole finally turns around and rushes over to her friends down the street waiting for her in a car. They all can hear her squeal with excitement before getting in. Iceman looks back over to the three and see Maverick’s fond look in his eyes as he watches Carole, Goose with adoration, and Bradley still swooshing his plane, oblivious to the world.
“Ok, that’s it! I’m going insane. I’ve tried to mind my business and figure it out on my own and/or leave it but I can’t anymore. What’s the situation here?”
Laughing brightly, Maverick holds a hand out and Goose grumbled as he pulls out a five dollar bill with a bit of trouble from a fully grown man and young child on him. (Iceman is just happy nether seem upset by his outburst.)
“Ah, what is the situation indeed.” Maverick says with a smile once he hides his money away. “Well, Carole and Goose are married and have a son. I’m Bradley’s godfather. Carole and I are best friends. Goose and I are partners. The word partners doesn’t really do any justice for what we are but it’s the closest thing to.”
Iceman nods and leaves it at that. That actually answers more then half of the questions he had.
Goose speaks up after a few seconds. “And, of course, you’re our best friend and Bradley’s uncle.”
Chuckling, Iceman shakes his head. “Well… guess that makes us a weird family huh?”
“The weirdest.” Maverick nods with an even bigger smile, founder as well.
(One more extra b/c I couldn’t help myself)
Iceman watches from down at the other end of the parking lot as Carole and Bradley step out of the taxi. Carole happy yells as Goose hugs her and leans down to kiss her. Maverick crouched down to pick his godson up and kisses his forehead.
Carole and Goose separate and Carole kisses Maverick’s cheek and moves so Goose can take Bradley and kiss his face. Maverick says something and Goose leans his head back to laugh and passes Bradley back to Maverick.
Bradley seems to have said something to Maverick because he chuckles and stands on his tippy toes and kisses Goose on the lips. Bradley giggles when Maverick moves away and he wiggles his fingers in Bradley’s side.
The sight was adorable and full with love.
Iceman loves his small and messed up family.
“Did Maverick and Goose and just… kiss?” A young and new aviator asks as he stands next to Iceman. His tone was not a good one.
A feeling of protectiveness fills his body and Iceman turns slightly. “Not that it’s any of your business, but yes. And if you even think about going to a higher up about this, I will kick your ass out of Top Gun so fast you won’t even have time to blink. Mind you own and go off with your friends.” His voice is a little harder than meant but it seems to do the trick as the new kid backs off and walks away.
Good.
No one messes with his family if he has anything to say about it.
Speaking of his family, the walk over to him and Iceman coos at his nephew as he smiles softly at the boy. “How’s my favorite little pilot doing huh?” He gets a huge smile from Bradley and suddenly the long and confusing road that ended up here was worth it.
“Hey! I thought I was your favorite little pilot?” Maverick asks, scandalous.
“So you finally admit your tiny?”
“Now now, I didn’t say that.”
“Goose, you heard that right? He admitted he’s small?”
Goose snorts and nods. “Ya, he did.”
Maverick gaps. “Goose! You’re supposed to be on my side here! Carole, come on-“
“If my ears serve me right, you called yourself small.”
In a desperate attempt, Maverick looks down at Bradley. “Brad? Come on, don’t fail me now.”
Bradley, innocent five year old Bradley, smiles evilly. “Tiny Papa!”
So god damn worth it.
