Work Text:
Jungwon has been extra clingy lately. He doesn’t want Jay to go anywhere on his own, and vice versa. Every night he begs Jay for cuddles (which, Jay doesn’t decline. Of course) and when he is with Jay, he is always touching him in some way. Now, don’t get him wrong. Jay isn’t complaining. He is actually very happy his Jungwonnie is being more affectionate. He just finds it weird.
Jungwon hates when Jay smothers him. Even getting a hug out of him is rare most of the time. So why is he being so affectionate?
Jay was in the bathroom doing his nightly routine. He showered, washed his face, brushed his teeth, all that good stuff. He was on his way out of the bathroom when he was met by Jungwon, standing directly outside of the door. “Holy shit, jungwon, you scared me”
“Sorry, hyung…can you, maybe…” he trails off looking down in doubt. “What is it, wonnie?” Jay encouraged.
“Can you sleep with me tonight?” Jay just stood there for a while. That was new. Jungwon took Jays silence as rejection and quickly rushed out, “of course, you don’t have to if you don’t want to! I was just asking because, y’know, I’ve been having trouble sleeping lately, and I always feel safe when you’re-“
Jay cut off Jungwons rambling with the tightest hug he could manage, without suffocating the boy. “Of course I will, Wonnie”
He said, voice muffled by jungwons shirt.
Jungwons head snapped up. “Really? You’ll do it?” He asked with a look of pure hope and excitement in his eyes. He was so adorable.
Jay simply nodded. “Thank you so much, hyung! You’re the sweetest ever” Jays heart skipped a beat, seeing Jungwon so happy because of him.
Jay woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of whimpering. He tried to ignore it at first, but it gradually got louder. He rolled over slowly to face the direction in which the noise was coming from and was met with the scene of jungwon squirming and sweaty, with his eyebrows furrowed.
He seemed to still be asleep though, so Jay assumed he was having a nightmare. Jungwon started to mumble the words, “no, please don’t go. Come back, please, please, please…”
He was starting to squirm more aggressively and Jay knew he had to act fast.
He began to shake Jungwon, calling out his name. “Wonnie, please wake up. You’re having a nightmare” Jungwon continued to squirm and there were now tears rolling down his cheeks. “Jungwon, please. Please, baby you’ve gotta wake up, please” he began to shake him more aggressively, now panicking. He couldn’t bare to see his best friend in pain.
“Jungwon!!” He screamed, praying it would wake him up. Jungwon shot up in fear, looking around the room, before his eyes landed on Jay. He jumped into his arms immediately, sobbing into his shoulder.
Jay quickly rapped his arms around Jungwon protectively, hating hearing the love of his life cry.
“It’s okay, love, you’ll be okay. I’m right here, I love you so much” he continued to whisper sweet nothings into his ear until Jungwon finally calmed a bit.
He pulled away from the hug and Jay felt empty at the loss of contact. Jungwon was looking down at his lap, in what looked like shame.
“Wonnie?” Jungwon glanced up at him through his eyelashes and Jay swears he could’ve died right there. “Do you want to talk about what happened?” Jay asked softly. Jungwon slowly lifted his head to look at Jay. “I’m really sorry, hyung. I really didn’t mean to wake you up, really. It was very insensitive of me and-“
“What?” Jay cut him off. “are you seriously apologizing for having a nightmare?”
“Well-“
“Do you have any idea how worried I was? And you’re worried about waking me up?” Jay didn’t mean sound as aggressive as he did, but he just couldn’t believe Jungwon was apologizing at a time like this.
“Sorry…” Jungwon mumbled “god, Wonnie. You’ve gotta stop apologizing” Jungwon opened his mouth to say something, but settled for a nod instead.
“So, are you gonna tell me what your nightmare was about?” Jungwon visibly tensed at the mention of his nightmare. “You didn’t think I wasn’t gonna ask, did you?”
Jungwon sighed. “It was about my parents. I haven’t seen them since I started college, and I have this reoccurring nightmare about them leaving me forever. It’s why I’ve been feeling so homesick”
“That’s why you’ve been so clingy!” Jay said in realization. The youngers eyes snapped opened. “I’ve been…clingy?” He asked, looking mortified. “It’s not a bad thing!! I love when you’re clingy” Jay quickly rushed out.
“…really?” Jungwon asked in a small voice. “Of course I do” Jay replied. “I’ve always been told it was a flaw of mine…” Jungwon said shyly. “Well it isn’t. I think you’re perfect” Jay said in a serious tone, looking directly into Jungwons eyes. Jungwon stared back in awe for a minute before looking away. “You can’t just- say things like that” he said, visibly flustered.
“What do you mean?” Jay asked, clueless. “Like- like that. It gets my hopes up…”
Jay isn’t sure if he heard incorrectly, or if Jungwon was pulling a prank on him. “…hopes up for what?” Jay asks quietly, only now realizing how close they were.
Jungwon examined his face for a moment, before slowly leaning in and softly pressing his lips against Jays. Jay immediately gripped Jungwons hips, punching a yelp out of him.
Jay took this as an opportunity to push his tongue inside the youngers mouth. He feels Jungwon running his fingers through his hair, causing him to groan into Jungwons mouth.
When they parted, red and panting, all they could do was smile at each other. “You like me back?” Jungwon asked in a small voice. “Jungwon. I love you more than anything in this world”
Jungwon stared at him with pure love and adoration before tackling him in a hug, causing them to fall back on the bed.
“Thank you so much, Jay-hyung. For being here for me. Not leaving me.” Jay wrapped his arms around Jungwon tightly, burying his face into the crook of his neck, inhaling his scent.
“I could never leave you.”
