Shinonome Family Game Night

Summary:

The Shinonomes don't have game nights. This is a rule that should never be broken. Tsukasa learns why.

Work Text:

“I SWEAR TO FUCKING CHRIST AKIYAMA I'LL END YOUR FUCKING BLOODLINE!” Rui takes a sip from his coffee and dodges a pillow that comes flying his way. “OI! DON'T TALK TO MY PARTNER LIKE THAT AKITO!” He takes a bite from his cookie. “FUCK OFF ENA, THEY'RE FUCKING CHEATING!” This is fine. “OH YEAH? AREN'T YOU THE ONE EATING THEIR CARDS, LI’L BRO?!” Akito in fact did not do that, Rui is pretty sure. Since he did that last time, Rui does not leave him around cards unsupervised. He takes another sip of coffee. Uno really brings out the worst in these people…

“OI RUI?!” He turns to Tsukasa, who is holding Saki in his arms protectively. “AREN'T YOU GOING TO STOP THEM!?” He slowly looks to the fighting trio, then slowly turns back to the Tenmas and slowly laughs, making an expression of ‘you think I can stop this?’. Tsukasa looks terrified, Saki looks worried. There's pillows and cards flying everywhere. Ena flipped the table earlier, while Mizuki had raided the bedroom for more ammunition. It's impressive how determined they are in their quest to win some cheesecake. Or maybe Ena bribed Mizuki. That's probably it. He should probably be backing up Akito, but he'd rather not die today. Tsukasa gets hit in the face by a, well, officially, stray pillow. Unofficially, he's pretty sure Akito and Mizuki teamed up to make it go that way.

Well… Rui had warned Tsukasa when he had invited them for a game night. It's a good thing both Nene and Emu were too busy, that would've ended in disaster… Poor Nene, the Shinonomes would've ganged up against her, just because she's better than them!

Last week, when they were cleaning up after a show, Tsukasa had made his “GRAND ANNOUNCEMENT HAHAHA!” His words, not Rui’s. “My dear sister Saki is in town and we are throwing a game night! Everyone better be there, HAHAHA!” When he heard those words Rui had traumatic flashbacks of half eaten cards and a room that should only be possible in an apocalypse. When Emu and Nene said they were busy he had half the mind to just lie and say that he can't go either, but apparently Tsukasa had already asked Akito, so they were going. Half weeping, Rui had told Tsukasa that it was “ the worst idea you've ever had, including sitting on a rocket launcher.” but Tsukasa just laughed him off saying, “you worry too much Rui, I've witnessed countless birthday parties and game nights with Saki’s friends and besides, we're in a group with Emu. No one can top that energy!” Tsukasa is a clown, Rui decides.

So that's what happened. Rui had asked Akito if they could just skip, but his husband had denied the request stating, “My dumb sister and her partner will be there, I need to go beat them! Loser buys the winner cheesecake.” Rui cried that night.

When they get ready to go over to Tsukasa's place, Rui makes sure to bring a first aid kit. Just in case. And a box full of candy. He's going to need it. Maybe he'll just go to sleep once the yelling starts. He only thinks off that when they're almost to his motorcycle, so he tells Akito to wait for him, while he goes to get something. He returns, sleeping mask and noise cancelling headphones in hand. Akito just looks amused, but says nothing about it.

While they drive, Rui thinks about just driving somewhere else randomly. Honestly, driving into the ocean might still be safer than a game night with both Shinonomes and a prize in the line. He doesn't do that, because a) Tsukasa and Saki are expecting them and as much as he dreads what will happen, he doesn't need to worry them yet and b) Akito might divorce him for throwing away his chances at free cheesecake. Sometimes Rui wonders if Akito loves cheesecake more than him. Well not really, but Akito does love cheesecake a bit too much in his opinion. Someone could use cheesecake to make him steal state secrets, probably.

The Shinonome siblings get along much better now, but they're too competitive for their own good, so when Akito and Rui arrive, just as Mizuki and Ena do, they glare at each other and make declarations of war. Mizuki isn't really helping. They're teasing Akito, which makes him even more determined to win. Rui tries to back up Akito, really he does, but at some point even he can't deflect all of Mizuki’s teasing, especially not when Akito makes it kind of easy.

For the first round of Uno everyone stays civilized. But things soon go VERY wrong. Mizuki puts down a +4. Rui’s next in line, so things don't completely derail yet, but Akito narrows his eyes and Rui can feel danger nearing. Next is Saki’s turn and she puts down a +2, which Tsukasa stacks, causing Ena to draw 4 cards. She also narrows her eyes. Rui breaks out in cold sweat and makes the precautionary decision to sit a bit further from the table. Tsukasa looks at him weirdly, but that man is a clown, so it doesn't matter. Akito plays a +4. Mizuki stacks it, hitting Rui with a +8. “How the fuck do you have 4 cards with two of them being +4s?” Akito’s voice is very quiet but there's a certain edge to it. Rui sighs and grabs his coffee and cookies from the table, as the situation escalates.

Which leads them to now. Once again the room looks like an apocalypse passes through it. Rui sighs. Tsukasa shrieks. Saki tries to calm the fighting trio. Akito’s hair is held in Ena’s clutches. Mizuki is hitting him with a pillow. When Rui finishes his coffee he gives Tsukasa the cup and tells him, “If I don't come back, I leave all of my things to Wonderlands x Showtime. Continue our dream without me.” Helping Akito shouldn't take the conviction of a man going to war, yet here they are anyway. Rui really hates when the Shinonome family does game nights. It wasn't even hosted by them this time.
