Chapter Text
You were so tired your bright eyes burning with exhaustion as you stared at the dull clinical grey walls of your living quarters cold and impersonal not a hint of your hidden individuality not that the higher ups or the handlers would ever allow such a thing to flourish if they knew of its existence to them you were all nothing but a network of a means to an end, tools that could be used to accomplish a goal no matter how much they might seem to favour you or your abilities the moment you became a detriment to their authority or to the organisation you were disposed of, though you admit to yourself the higher ranks were less likely to be taken out because the higher up you went in the hierarchy of the academy or the institute the more brainwashed and indoctrinated one would become and those able to climb the ranks would do anything they were ordered to do if it made life just a bit more cushy and safe for them… anything it didn’t matter how immoral or illegal they would do it so as to not fall back down to the low levels were they could be picked off in an instant disposed off secretly to never be heard from again. Those who crawled their way out of the labs or the pits fought with every cell in their body to never have to return there again.
You sat on the edge of your mattress the cool iron of your bed frame digging into the back of your legs as your fingers were buried in the circuitry of a small device that was supposed to be a remote handheld radio detonator but it was a dud the construction was too quick and the workmanship shoddy it was missing some important aspects and therefore was useless to the Institute so you swiped it without hesitation taking it with you back to your workspace and they hadn’t punished you for it because what good would the device be to you with the detonation circuitry failure and a lack of explosive to key it to, all it was good for would be listening to the radio stations that were tied to the facility it wouldn’t be able to catch radio waves outside of the facilities reach as both the institute and academy had cut of the radio connection to the outside world and you had to have a special access code to be admitted access to the stations used by the handlers, scientists, security and higher ups so it couldn’t be used against them in any manner… “or so they think” you murmur to yourself a sharp satisfied smirk curving your lips it might not be able to remotely detonate a nearby explosive device or listen in to their radio chatter but with a few tweaks and rearrangements to the design it’ll be able to override door controls and possibly access pads.
Once more they’ve underestimated you, you honestly thought they’d learnt to stop doing that by now, you thought they’d learned when you clawed your way first out of the labs, then the pits, finally now landing yourself in the gauntlet of Venkaris a top secrete project that was of vital import to the institute and academy as they could test just how far an individual’s power could go when pushed to its limit and beyond as they wanted their weapons their pet projects at their strongest and most capable before they would be sent out into the world with their given tasks, orders and assignments of varying import and designations. You thought they’d finally caught onto how sharp and adaptable you were with literally any science based action, object or project. But no they were so delusional and arrogant that they thought this place could hold you permanently and that you would be unable to ever escape despite your clearly immense power. Well that’s their problem not yours it’s not your fault that your keepers are a bunch of pretentious, arrogant, delusional cunts with god complexes and egos the size of the Rocky Mountains.
You slip the back panel of the patchwork homemade override device back on covering the intricate mess of wires and circuitry flipping it around to see the front of the device which was comprised of a small screen and pop out keypad a few switches and buttons as well as two knobs on the side panel one that could be used to decrease and increase volume and another to heighten and lower the intensity of the area of effect reached by the device. It was ready and so were you it was time to go all that was left to do was cause a distraction that would allow you to slip away undetected by your handlers, the security teams and the scientists and that was an extremely simple task all you had to do was override all the containment fields in this localised area freeing the inhabitants of this sector from their confinement and basically insighting an A Rank-Delta_ level riot in the confinement sector, something the higher ups, security and scientists would have to focus their attention wholly on to stop the progress of, which would give you a small window of opportunity to flee from the facility.
You rise up from your mattress and saunter over to the heavy duty door that was sealed shut and protected with several layers of security and specialised power containment fields. You place the device against the wall adjacent with the access pad on the other side, you look down to small screen display on the front of the device and several lines of codes and symbols gradually begin to appear on the display in front of you your brain begins to calculate at an accelerated rate as your fingers type absentmindedly what your mind is discerning into the key pad decoding and altering the system, the system has finally been re-coded to your specifications and you now have full control over the security systems and containment fields in the sector but unfortunately that doesn’t pertain to the individual containment fields and suppression devices on one’s person so things like the suppression cuffs, anklets and collars were still active along with everyone’s individual gps tracking chip.
Looks like you’d have to fry it and dig it out yourself, you sigh eh just another day in the life of your monotonous existence and not the first time you’ve ripped an unwanted modification from your body and it likely won’t be your last. The device gives the new system the green light and the heavy duty locks of your cell lock box click open one by one the door automatically swings open allowing you to slip quickly out before you re lock your ‘living quarters’. So as to not arouse suspicion. You note that the alarms are wailing all around you and that all the other containment fields and cells are completely empty and you hear crashing and gunfire a little ways down the winding maze of corridors along with yelling, cursing and orders being screamed by the security team members for the experiments to return to their ‘containment quarters’ no one’s listening, of course they aren’t why would any of them want to return to their personal hell when given a chance to escape they didn’t exactly have the cushy life as they were apart of a top secret experiment to break them down and build them back up into the perfect soldier, spy or assassin to find the limits of their power and to keep pushing beyond them despite the huge detriment to their physical and mental health and safety. All those confined for the gauntlet of Venkaris project were of mid to high designation on the power scale which meant they were seen as lab rats and pet projects at the very most they were seen as high tier combatants.
You slip silently down the back corridors of the facility that twist and turn until you find yourself at a crossroads with a choice of which route you could take from here, your mind mentally runs over the barest glimpse of the map you’d seen laid out on one of the leading engineers desk before you’d been quickly ushered away but with your photographic memory a small glance was all you needed now your mind had constructed up a mental comparison within your mind palace to discern which direction would have the quickest exit route from the facility. You imagine winding pathway lines through each route in the mental construct you made of the facility, it took you mere milliseconds to decide on the route you would take right you would go right it was the quickest exit route the facility had.
You were out fucking hell you were out, you could feel a breeze ruffling your long unruly locks as you felt a somewhat hysterical giggle building in the back of your throat, you were practically euphoric feeling the suns natural rays grazing your skin for the first time in literal years. Arms spread wide to the side of you, you begin to chuckle lightly and somewhat soft at first before the laugh takes a more hysterical forceful tone descending into full mania ridden laughs that choke you up with the force of years of suppressed emotions. Freedom the most coveted dream you’d had all your life you’d finally accomplished it and you’d be damned if you were ever going to get dragged back to your hell. You wouldn’t let it happen you would rather die… you would die before you let it happen, you would also Kill…
