In the Mirror

Summary:

Hermione Granger and Draco Malfoy both had always been deeply interested and intrigued by the Mirror of Erised. Both of them had absorbed any information about the object that they could. Hermione remembered leaning forward in her seat when hearing her best friend, Harry Potter, talking about the object during their first year at Hogwarts. Whereas, the young blond had just heard about the stories of the mysterious mirror from his mother and father. His father wanted to know whether the tales of the mirror were true and whether Draco could locate the object.

Hermione and Draco wanted to know what the mirror would state their deepest, most desperate desires in their hearts were.

Chapter 1: Hermione

Chapter Text

━━━━━━━━━

Hermione Granger had always been deeply interested and weirdly intrigued by the Mirror of Erised. She absorbed any information that she could find about the object. She remembered leaning forward in her seat when hearing her best friend, Harry Potter, talking about the object during their first year at Hogwarts. Hermione remembered hearing the tales that Harry had seen his parents standing by his side and that he was just surrounded by family, and Ron had seen himself as the Quidditch Captain, lifting up the cup, and had also seen himself being Head Boy. Of course, Hermione had read everything she could about the mirror but hearing someone talk about it, especially coming from someone that she trusted with her life, just intrigued her even more to visit the object itself. Hermione wanted to know what the mirror would state her deepest, most desperate desires in her heart were.

“Hermione Granger - Seventh Floor.” She read on the prefect rounds for that week and she knew that was her moment to strike. Hermione had been rereading up on the information that was out there about the mirror and she knew that its supposed home was and had been the Room of Requirement the entire time she was at Hogwarts. She felt giddy at the sight of her name next to the handwritten ‘ seventh floor ’.

While roaming around doing her prefect duties, checking the alcoves for any student out of bed after curfew and upon discovering no one she sighed a breath of relief. She wandered around, still slightly doing her prefect rounds with a nervous smile, on the seventh floor late one evening, and that was where Hermione stumbled across where she knew that the Room of Requirement was hiding. But, suddenly, the doors appeared willingly for the sixth-year student. She checked around her, staring down the corridors, listening out for noises and making sure that the coast was fully clear before disappearing behind the large, welcoming doors. Instead of the expected, what Hermione was faced with on the other side of the doors was completely different to the sight from her fifth year when they had secretly used the room for Dumbledore’s Army training.

The cluttered room surrounded Hermione. Chairs were piled up on top of each other and reaching up towards the high ceiling of the room. It was a complete mess, an overwhelmingly overly cluttered mess. But Hermione ignored the want to tidy and stepped around it, being careful not to knock anything over as she moved around on her mission to find the mirror. She continued walking, the large overbearing doors disappearing from sight as she made her way deeper into the room. Hermione never remembered it being this large. With a small Lumos cast with her wand, she navigated her way around, hoping that she wouldn’t be spending her entire night in here.

“Mal— Malfoy?” Hermione’s voice rang out as she stared in shock at the blond man, who seemed to be staring back at her. She held out her wand protectively in front of her small body. Her breathing turned heavy as she stared daggers at the boy. “Malfoy, you can’t be in here.” Her voice spoke out into the room, sounding more anxious than she felt. Stupidly, she had thought that no one was there and had declined to check the room with her magic, but now Hermione had realised that she had been stupid. She should have checked whether the coast was clear or not. Her wand hand shook in front of her as she moved closer.

Upon moving closer, Hermione realised that Draco hadn’t moved an inch but suddenly, walking faster, she was faced with her own reflection. Then it properly dawned on her. She had found it. She’d found the Mirror of Erised. Hermione had gone and done it, and fuck was she proud of herself.

Instead of celebrating herself though, Hermione just stared deeper into the mirror and hoped that it would clear the blond away from the reflection and her true desire would start to appear. Nothing changed. The Slytherin, instead, just moved closer towards Hermione’s body. Her breath hitched as she watched the mirror reflection, her golden-brown eyes following the movement like a hawk, narrowing her eyes. Draco disappeared from sight for just a couple of seconds before reappearing again, but this time was standing behind Hermione. His hand slowly travelled across her stomach, holding her close against his hard chest. Her breath stuttered as she watched his hand move against her body, his head coming down to rest upon her shoulder.

Hermione knew that she needed to move away and leave but she couldn’t take her eyes off Draco. His figure in the mirror was now kissing her neck and her eyes couldn’t move away from the movement. Hermione’s mouth opened into a small O as she watched the blond attack her reflection's neck, imagining how soft or rough those lips were and how she dreamed of finding out.

At that thought, Hermione ran back away from the mirror and towards where she knew the doors were. She ran as fast as her little legs could take her to get away from the mirror and the desires that Hermione wanted to hide and never reveal again. She burst through the doors and ran back towards Gryffindor Tower. Hermione had never run and jumped into her bed so quickly, hiding under the covers.
