“You think you can teach me how to swim in twenty-one days?” Rey shook her head now. “I won’t go to this event half-prepared only to embarrass myself.” The idea of all those people watching her fumble her way down the lap lane, him scrutinizing from the other side made the idea seem even worse than before.
“You won’t embarrass yourself. I won’t let that happen.” His voice cut through her thoughts and she stared at him. For once he was looking at her without annoyance. In fact, he looked determined and his conviction was intoxicating. “You have potential, I see it. You can learn in time, trust me.”

Rey is an overworked and undervalued nurse case manager at Health United. She escapes from the painful office politics in the winter by swimming laps at the indoor pool at night. One surly lifeguard asks her to compete in a partners swim event and she accepts. During the day, she is arguing with one awful Dr. Solo via email and at night she is slowly catching feelings for Kylo Ren, who simultaneously insults her and makes sure she eats dinner.
