As much as he loved Ed, Stede could admit that the blatant disrespect of the thing that he had spent so much time on, something that Ed knew was important to him, had managed to put a dent into his affection for the man.
Ed had the decency to look guilty whenever he saw Stede looking across the empty shelves.
“I was pissed,” Ed said by way of an explanation, “I thought you were gone forever so I didn’t see why I would need to keep your books when I can’t read them anyway.”
