Summary
Karkat of the Seraphkin climbs the mountain to seek audience with Solarin, the Ever Burning, the god of his people, to ask why the god has let their crops fail and their children grow sickly. What can he do to regain his favor?
What he finds is more than disillusioning.
Solarin the Ever Burning was listless. Tired of watching his people be born and die, through joy and suffering, while he could only toss out little favors. Did his gifts even matter? Couldn't nature take care of them without his help?
He was ready to sleep until the end of time -- that is, until, a fiery Seraphkin with black wings and red eyes forced him to wake up and remember his responsibility.
