It’s the little things

Summary:

Steve and Eddie are in love and tell each other why.

Work Text:

If you had told him two years ago he would be madly in love with a man Steve would have laughed in your face. If you had then told him that man would be Theodore “Eddie” Munson he would have asked who sold you crack and offered to get you some therapy.

But after two years of fighting monsters, losing him, getting him back, battling the struggles of Eddie’s new.. eating habits. And Eddie moving in… he would have found you and apologized. Said you were right. That he has never been so in love with a person. When Nancy had shattered his heart, Robin helped piece it back together in a different way. There were chunks and chips missing but she was his best friend in the whole world. Eddie filled the pieces he was missing, added a few even. He had never felt so full of love and life.

It was the little things that made him fall so deeply for that man. The way his arms wrapped around Steve’s toned waist while he cooked them breakfast, he was by no means a professional chef but he could make a decent pile of pancakes and eggs. Thinking about it, every time Eddie’s arms were wrapped around him and that devilish little face was tucked in his neck, those curls tickled his cheeks and neck. Those cold lips pressing into his pulse point with a kiss every now and then. The gentle hum of the band's queen or kiss against his skin.

Of course there were moments when things felt naughtier when those thin tattooed arms were around him. When Eddie was behind him in the shower, hands slipping over his toned thighs and further between. Whispering sweet pet names against the shell of his ear.

  Princess

Doll.

Sweetness.

Love of mine.

Not that Eddie wasn’t as equally obsessed with him. The vampire told him often how much he adored the former king. How Steve was the only person in his entire life who could utter the name Theodore when he was close and not instantly turn Eddie off. How badly he wanted to keep Steve in his arms and never let anyone touch or harm him again. He would coo in that dark voice how no deer or bear could ever top a few sips of ‘Sweet Harrington Juice.’ He loved to teasingly call it.

One thing they both discovered and enjoyed was Eddie’s venom. If he or Steve were having trouble sleeping, Steve would bare his shoulders and ask. Some nights beg for Eddie to let go and bite him. Eddie’s venom was like an aphrodisiac, but for sleep. A small push of his fangs into soft pale flesh. A flex of his jaw and the sickly material would be pumped through his veins. It would instantly relax the past King and he could drift in Eddie’s arms within minutes. Steve would let Eddie hold him like that at night, arms around his waist and mouth clamped around his shoulder.

It was like waking up on a snowy day. Tired and wrapped up against Eddie’s cold body, even after waking up. He would lazily roll over and tuck his face into Eddie’s throat, swinging a heavy leg over the other males hips and press up. He’d whisper so gently about how much he loved him, into those cute pointy ears. And before long they both were tangled up together and rocking against the other in a slow loving manner. No place to be, no kids to bus around, no job to keep them apart. Just each other.

The first time he says it is when they’re cleaning up after a messy night in bed. Steve is curled up in the tub while Eddie is wiping dried blood off of his neck and he just says it. Very quietly and still up in that space between heaven and earth.

“It’s the little things that make me love you.”

Eddie had smiled, petting the new bandage over the bite mark. Truly, the scars on Steve would never stop. But if they were scars of love he wouldn’t care.

“Oh yeah princess? Like what?”

And Steve tips his head up, eyes staring back up at muddy red. And he tells him. He tells him how safe and loved he feels with those arms around him, how whenever Eddie kisses his neck or holds his hand, he feels like he could do anything. How special he feels to be able to call Eddie his true name when they’re together, not that he uses it often, only when he feels like his heart might burst if he doesn’t flash how much he truly loves his boyfriend.

“It’s funny.” Eddie says, tucking some hair away from Steve’s forehead. “It’s the little things that make me love you too.”

And in the deepest pit of his heart of hearts. He knows it’s true. That Eddie loves him. Loves him for the little things. And that’s what made them perfect.
