Our Riduurok Vows

Summary:

Cody and Obi-Wan’s marriage vows are woven throughout the very core of their lives together. A short look at our heroes' happy lives after the war.

(Set Post-War, where Order 66 didn’t happen, Palps choked on a grape and died, and Cody and Obi-Wan got married.)

Notes:

A remix of tuckercolour’s “Codywan Week Day 7” fic from last year for the Codywan Remix Challenge 2022. Tuckercolour, I chose this one bc I love how you wrote the soft intimacy and emotional closeness of these two. What a lovely fic! <3

Hopefully y’all enjoy it! :)

We are one when together, We are one when parted, We share all, We will raise warriors
~The Mandalorian Riduurok vows

“This I vow: We are one when we are together…”

One of Cody’s favorite things was to fall asleep tangled up with Obi-Wan after they’d made love.

Somehow that act of trust felt more intimate than any lovemaking ever could. Years of war had made them both jumpy being that close to someone else. But if they could stand sleeping so close, there would be this one moment when he could feel Obi-Wan’s heart thumping rhythmically through his chest and into Cody’s skin. In that moment, everything felt good and right with the world.

He woke slowly that morning to the two of them entangled that way. He could hear Obi-Wan’s breathing and somehow that made it all the harder to open his eyes. He felt warm, safe and loved.

“Cody, darling,” Cody heard Obi-Wan’s voice distantly. And then a warm, strong hand wound its way through his hair.

Cody hummed, feeling happy and content, and yet simultaneously annoyed at being woken when he was so comfortable. He blinked his eyes open, his eyes blurry from sleep and a bit of mucus.

Obi-Wan was staring down at him with such a soft tenderness that it made Cody’s heart ache. Obi-Wan’s smile parted and his voice was gentle as he spoke. “Good morning dear. Much as I am enjoying this cuddle, you need to let me up so I can get my tea. If you do, I’ll even turn on the caf machine for you,” Obi-Wan continued to smile while his forehead scrunched in disgust at the thought of caf.

Obi-Wan had tried very hard to convert Cody to drinking tea, but as of yet, he’d hadn’t been successful. Cody just liked caf a bit better. Although, he hadn’t told Obi-Wan that one of the reasons he still refused to occasionally have tea was because of the adorable little eyebrow crinkle Obi-Wan did whenever caf was mentioned.

“Sorry, cyare,” he mumbled sleepily, rolling away onto the other side of the bed.

“It’s quite alright, love.”

Cody felt a small peck on his forehead and opened his eyes again to watch Obi-Wan get up off the bed, the mattress dipping a bit as he did.

“I’ll be right back with your caf.”

Cody mumbled a thank-you into the arm he threw over his face, trying to block out the artificial sunlight that was beginning to trickle through their Temple apartment window.

“We are one when we are parted…”

Cody stared hungrily at his husband’s image over the holocall. They hadn’t seen each other in weeks. Cody yearned to have his husband here in his arms, where he would be able to make sure he was safe and whole and eating well.

Obi-Wan had left on a mission with Skywalker to some outer rim planet two weeks ago. They’d only had a few sparse holocalls since then, and Cody missed him.

Cody had known what he was signing up for when he married Obi-Wan, but that didn’t mean he liked how often they were apart. And after the War, after the GAR had been disbanded and Cody had joined the Jedi as an independent contractor, he hadn’t imagined that they would find so much for him to do in Temple, instead of sending him to be out amongst the stars with Obi-Wan.

He knew he was a bit of a worrier, but he’d seen Obi-Wan on the battlefield, he knew Obi-Wan didn’t always care for himself very well.

“You’re taking care of yourself and keeping safe, right?” Cody asked earnestly.

“I’m doing my very best, my love. At least, I haven’t had any debilitating injuries yet,” Obi-Wan joked, his eyes squinting with mirth, “Although I may if I let Anakin cook again.”

A shouted “Hey!” came from behind Obi-Wan and Cody’s husband covered his grin with one hand coming up to stroke his beard. No one was fooled when Obi-Wan started stroking his beard, his mouth was too expressive.

“I wish I was there, watching your back,” Cody said seriously.

Obi-Wan’s eyes softened. “I know my love. I miss you too. I’ll be home as soon as I can.”

Cody nodded, looking down pensively. “I know. Ni kartayli gar darasuum. K'oyacyi, Obi-Wan.” (I love you. Come back safely, Obi-Wan.)

“I promise,” Obi-Wan swore, his eyes intense even through the blue image of the holocall. “And I love you so much as well, Kote.”

Cody’s gut ached as they both signed off.

Cody left the room, hoping he would be able to find Rex. He was hoping he could loosen some of his nerves through a good spar. And Rex just happened to be one of his favorite sparring partners and was actually in Temple right now.

“We share all with one another…”

The first time he’d come in—after a long day of organizing mission rosters under Master Gallia’s purview—and was met with the vision of Obi-Wan in one of Cody’s shirts and nothing else, was one of the most attractive things he’d seen in his life.

He’d ended up picking his husband bodily up and carrying him to their bedroom so they could make urgent, passionate love.

So he’d thought that his husband would be just as enthralled if he came home to Cody in Obi-Wan’s clothes.

Cody wasn’t too sure wearing any of Obi-Wan’s formal Jedi tunics would be appropriate. Especially considering he’d never taken the vows that made one a Jedi… but Obi-Wan wore just normal legging under his tunics and robes.

And this idea had seemed like such a promising, excellent idea, until Cody was pulling the tan leggings up over his thighs and ass.

It was a struggle to get them up past his kneecaps, but he didn’t give up. It seemed though that his muscular thighs seemed to be his undoing… literally.

Cody had been able to just barely squeeze inside and do up the flies when he began to hear a horrible ripping sound.

He tried to get them off, but the leggings were ripping faster than he could undo the buttons!

By the time he got them peeled down past his kneecaps, they were beyond saving. It seemed Cody’s husband was much too svette for them to share clothes quite like that.

Embarrassed, Cody hid them in the back of their wardrobe and dressed in his own clothes.

Maybe if he could fatten his husband up, then Obi-Wan would size up in clothing and Cody would be able to share his leggings.

So his next step was to find the most delicious cake he could find on Coruscant, one that would tempt even a picky eater like his husband was.

Cody should track down Fives. Fives seemed to know where to get all the best food on planet.

“And we will raise warriors.”

Cody didn’t know if it was something within the Fett genes themselves or maybe something from his Mandalorian heritage, however distant, but Cody found himself feeling very broody as of late.

Cody and Obi-Wan had been assigned to do a rotation in Kamino for a few months, together. Production of Tubies had been halted, but now there were still thousands of young clones without anywhere to go. And ever since they had been able to reverse the aging gene in all the clones, people of the Republic seemed more interested in bringing these little ones into their homes and families.

Cody looked out at the gymnasium of young Cadets playing hooverball, with a heavy heart. He wanted desperately to be one of the families taking some of these sweet young kids home.

Cody watched Obi-Wan bring out a couple more that were going to be picked up by a transport taking them to their new families.

Once the little ones were taken away by one of the Alphas—who had stayed behind to help see the younger generations to new families—Obi-Wan paused to look through the list of clones left.

“Obi-Wan,” Cody said quietly. “When we promised the riduurok together… When we promised to raise warriors together… Did you ever think about having children?”

Obi-Wan froze, then turned to look at Cody. “I…at first I assumed we would fulfill that part of our vows through any future padawan I might have. But coming here,” Obi-Wan gestured to the facility around them. “Seeing all these children needing good homes…I will admit that I thought about it a time or two. Would you… be interested in that?” Obi-Wan looked at him with heavy eyes.

Cody smiled, this throat felt thick with emotion. “I would. Especially if we raised them together.”

Obi-Wan’s smile echoed Cody’s, pleased and loving, yet hesitant as they were still feeling out the topic between them. “There’s a little boy named Canvas, he’s four years old. He’s still available.”

Cody crowded close to his husband and pulled him into his arms. Cody had seen Obi-Wan grow attached to the little boy over the last month they’d been there. “He’s a wonderful choice. But can we really separate him from Marcher, his best friend?”

“Twins?” Obi-Wan frowned, hesitant. They were both aware that Cody would probably have to take on the majority of the childcare, since Obi-Wan was away on missions so often. “Do you really think we could do it?”

Cody laughed, “If Skywalker can do it, we definitely can.”

Obi-Wan sank into Cody’s arms. “Let’s ask them to come to dinner with us tonight, and see how they feel about us adopting them.”

Cody kissed Obi-Wan’s temple. Every day with this man felt like a renewal of the four promises they made in their vows. And everyday he fell a little further in love with this man. Cody wouldn’t trade what they had for anything in the galaxy.
