Work Text:

A blast of gold, bright light surrounded the Black Cat in The Rue Morgue novel, catching the attention of both detectives in the room. Karl, who was curled up beside the novel, jumped off the desk and scurried over to Poe and climbed up his cloak to perk himself on his head. "Guess he's done," Ranpo grinned wide, sitting on the edge of the desk and popping a lollipop in his mouth as he waited for Chuuya's grand entry. Poe waited, too, although more off to the side; he had a feeling Chuuya wouldn't be too pleased if he went in for a hug so soon.

Out came Chuuya, he immediately grabbed the novel and slammed it to the floor with a growl. "Ranpo, you bastard!" He glanced around the room until he found him, grabbing his loose tie and pulling him towards himself to the edge of the desk. "You could've given me some sort of — I don't know — warning!"

Ranpo raised an eyebrow and took the candy from his mouth with a pop! "I did, a very good one in fact," he smiled, happily praising himself. Chuuya, though, wasn't impressed. "I mean you should've called me and prepared me beforehand!" His grip tightened around the tie, Ranpo looking to Poe for assistance.

Poe came up behind Chuuya, wrapping his arms around his boyfriend's waist as he leaned down to kiss his cheek. "I'm sorry, I should've asked Ranpo why he needed a novel," Poe kissed Chuuya's other cheek when he noticed the mafioso's grip on their other lover's tie loosen. "Had I known what it was for, I would've made it more suited for you."

"What, are you calling me stupid?" Chuuya let go of Ranpo, turning his head to the side to see Poe. "Just 'cause I can't solve a riddle easily doesn't mean—"

"No, not at all!" Poe squeezed him tight, reassuringly. "You're incredibly smart, Nakahara, everyone has their strengths and weaknesses; I don't like seeing you angry and hurt — we both don't — and I'm sure Ranpo just wanted to do something fun." Chuuya's anger finally subsided, although he was still upset.

Poe let go of his boyfriend, sensing his shift in energy. Chuuya simply sighed and fixed his hat. "I'm going to grab a drink." He headed out of the room and towards the kitchen, having already memorized the layout due to coming to Poe's huge house for the many rendezvous the three of them would have on occasion.

Poe always kept Chuuya's favourite wine, along with Ranpo's favourite snacks. Ranpo, too, kept Chuuya's favourite cheaper wine and Poe's favourite cheaper coffee, along with some of their favourite foods to make up for the lack of expensive items, even though Poe and Chuuya constantly told him cheap was more than okay, but despite that Ranpo was still insecure about it. They all do they're very best to keep each other happy, comfortable, and a secret from their organizations. Telling the agency Ranpo and Poe are dating? That's fine, the agency quite likes Poe anyway. Telling the agency that Ranpo, Poe, and Chuuya are dating each other? That's more difficult and could cause unwanted drama; Chuuya already had a bad impression with the majority of the agency members.

Poe turned to Ranpo, grasping his shoulders and he shook him a few times. "We have got to make it up to Chuuya!" He pleaded, a slight pout on his lips and Karl squeaked sadly to emphasize his point. Ranpo removed his hat to properly ruffle his hair, letting out a strained sigh as he looked down at his feet that were dangling off the edge of the desk. "Yeah, you're right..."

The two of them got to thinking.

Chuuya was the kind of guy to prefer actions over words, so a simple 'I'm sorry' wouldn't cut it, not that they'd do that anyway. He also liked cuddling them both under the covers, he liked how warm it was.

Ranpo's eyes lit up, catching Poe's attention. "We spoil him," he hopped off the desk, stretching and cracking his wrists. Poe thought about it for a minute, humming to himself as he did so. "It's not a bad idea, Ranpo, you bring him to the lounge; I'll meet you both there." Poe rushed out of the room, visiting various others on his way down to the first floor to grab blankets, candles, drinks and snacks.

Ranpo made his way to the kitchen, hoping Chuuya wasn't still angry with him.

Chuuya was leaned back against the counter, sipping his second glass of wine. He glanced at Ranpo who was shyly making his way over to Chuuya; his hands were clutching his cloak and his eyes shut tighter than usual. "So...," Ranpo began, but had no idea how to continue.

The Mafia executive sighed, opening his arm that wasn't holding his glass, gesturing for a hug. Ranpo smiled, easing up, happily squeezing him tight.

Ranpo wasn't good at apologies, or anything sentimental, but his warm hugs always showed the sincerest of apologies. It was one of the reasons why Chuuya loved him so much; even without words, Ranpo always made his intent clear — well, as long as it didn't include a case. Ranpo's mind tended to get clouded by his cases and if Poe or Chuuya were included in the mission, he'd get so excited he'd forget to include everyone on the plan. Which, surprise surprise, is exactly what happened days ago - Ranpo got caught up in the case and act of keeping their relationship a secret. Chuuya wasn't mad at that — he loved how excited his boyfriends got over their detective work — but he hated how his job left him excluded from hearing about it. It's not that the two didn't trust him, no, it was just the times they worked was so different; Ranpo and Poe during the afternoon and evening while Chuuya at night until morning. there just wasn't time for Chuuya to hear all of the details most of the time, and that made them all sad.

"You're not still mad at me, are you?" Ranpo mumbled, face burried against Chuuya's shoulder. Chuuya was upset, but he wasn't sure at exactly what he was upset over. His initial anger had already subsided, so what was it? "No, I'm not mad," he rubbed Ranpo's back. "I'm just....," He searched for the correct words, placing his glass on the counter. "Please, just give me a heads up next time, okay?"

Ranpo straightened, nodding quickly. "Promise!" He took Chuuya's hand, guiding him to the large livingroom. He smirked when Chuuya let out a noise of confusion, "Poe and I decided to make it up to you."

Chuuya took a seat in the middle of the couch, Ranpo hoping down beside him. Poe placed a few glasses of alcohol on the coffee table, the bottle behind those glasses, and various snacks ranging from: pastries, chocolates, hard candies, and sugar-covered fruits. Chuuya smiled pleasantly, grabbing his glass, "I'm surprised," he laughed quietly, drinking his alcohol. Poe took a seat, draping a blanket over the three of them, Karl rushing over to curl up on his owner's lap.

Ranpo leaned against Chuuya, Poe flicking on his favourite movie — an intensely gore filled horror movie. "Are you sure?" Chuuya asked honestly. While all three of them didn't mind gore and found it interesting, the intensity of the crimes in the movie were slightly off-putting to the detectives. Poe kissed Chuuya's cheek as Ranpo squeezed his arm, "we're fine with it, we'll just hide behind you!" Ranpo joked, making the Mafia executive roll his eyes.

"Oh, also," Chuuya looked to Poe, "your ability, while a shock at first, is amazing," Poe lightly flushed at the compliment. "It would be very useful for the Mafia." He winked, Poe gently shoving him as Ranpo laughed.

Chuuya loved the cuddling during the movie, the snacks and alcohol, and the occasional laughs when Ranpo would scare Poe and make him scream. Karl slept through it all, already used to the antics of the other three.
