Playing Captain

Summary:

Astrid is sick of being Captain. It’s hard work, stressful, and not to mention turning her tentacles grey. Marie and Callie don’t help her case and worsen it. Astrid gives the job to Four for a day. It’s just a day…shouldn’t be that hard…right?

(An excuse for me to write Four and Three together because I love these new agents)

Chapter 1: Feisty beginnings & Vacations

Chapter Text

“Careful!” The Captain hissed. Three sighed as she ducked behind the rubble, carefully maneuvering through the field.

“Maybe if you used your head Captain I wouldn’t need to be so careful- and stop clawing into my back!” Three smacked her boss's prying hands off her back. For a top-secret organization with multiple rich pop star connections, they couldn’t afford to buy her a shirt. Unbelievable.

Three continued walking back to the Squid Sisters base in silence, hearing the occasional grunts from the Captain. It had been a simple mission that had effectively cut another wound into the captain's tentacles.

“How mad do you think Marie’s gonna be?” The Captain asked her agent, a slight tone of worry laced behind it but she tried not to let it show.

Three snorted “Marie? I think you should be more worried about Callie. Remember how she got when you cut your tentacle the last time?” Three responded.

The Captain let out a frustrated sigh at her agent's response. She wasn’t wrong but gosh did she have to be right? She was in for a beating and quite frankly she was tired of it. She’s the Captain now, you’d think they’d have more respect towards her but nope they treat her the same.

It’s always “Captain watch out!” “Captain use your head!!” “Captain I swear to cod if you jump headfirst I will-”

You get this gist of it.

Three rattled the captain's body as they approached closer to their base. The green squid lifted her head to look at it.

“Alright, you can put me down fuzzball” Captain Three ordered her protege. Three complied and placed her down gently. The Captain wobbled slightly, clinging onto the agent's shirt. She pursed her lips “okay maybe just give me a little support here.”

Three wrapped her arm around the captain's shoulders keeping her sturdy. They walked together in unity slowly but surely approaching the base.

“Hey…” Three awkwardly started, both Squid sisters weren’t interested as they kept their cold stares at the captain.

The Captain unwrapped Three’s hand off her shoulder and wobbled towards the empty chair. Marie crossed her arms as Captain Three sat down on the chair.

Callie opened up a box of bandages and began wrapping them around her bruised tentacles. The Captain didn’t have to look up to know she was in trouble.

Little Buddy cowarded behind Three stuffing himself further into the pouch. Marie stood with her arms crossed glaring at her friend. The camp was filled with silence till Callie wrapped up the final layer.

The Captain looked up to be met with very frustrated pop stars and her mentor shaking his head.

“Astrid, how long have you been working for the NSS?” Marie questioned, The Captain cringed at the use of her first name. She hasn’t heard that one in years.

“about 7 years…” The Captain responded

“And how many times have we told you to think before you jump?” Marie stepped closer, Astrid leaned back slightly. “a lot…” she answered truthfully.

Three furrowed her eyebrows at the Captain despite telling others to think before they jump; she never did the same for herself. Talk about hypocrisy.

“Exactly!” Callie screamed “We’ve told you so many times but you never listen.” Callie pointed a finger at the Captain.

“You’re still the same immature squid we know.” Marie growled “You’re lucky Agent Three was there to help you or else you would’ve been six feet under”

The Captain scoffed at them. Cuttlefish shook his head “Astrid it’s time you started using your head and thinking. Even Four thinks more than you and it’s Four.” Cuttlefish scolded, causing both Marie and Astrid to give him a dirty look.

“Maybe we should take you off missions” Callie questioned “That’ll teach you to be more careful”

“No no it should be something more like-“ Marie started, soon enough all three of them got into a heated argument on Astrid’s punishment.

The more they screamed at each other the more the Captain ticked. Like a bomb her eyes grew darker and darker till they finally had enough.

The Captain stood up from her chair and pushed Callie and Marie apart from each other. “I’ve had enough. I’m your Captain and sure maybe I’m a little immature and sometimes I get impatient but that’s on you.”

Marie snorted “That’s on me?”

Astrid glared at Marie “You’re not as easy to put up with as you think that goes for you too Callie. Every single day ‘be careful!’ ‘oh don’t do that!’ ‘watch out!!!’ EVERY day. I’m sick of it” Astrid pointed at Marie “I’m sick of you, you, you, Three you’re okay but mark my words I’ll be sick of you too someday!!” Astrid shouted at them.

“Hey! I brought sandwiches. You wouldn’t believe the deals that snail? I think he’s a snail, gave me.” Four popped out of the grate holding up a plastic bag filled  with sandwiches. Fours smile disappeared as she saw her friends angry expression. It wasn’t a good sign

“W-what’d I miss?” The agent stammered.

Astrid gave one last glare at the other agents before storming over to Four who was clutching the sandwiches tightly. Four gulped as she got closer and braced herself.

The Captain took off her hat and shoved it into Fours hands, dropping the sandwiches. “Agent Four you’re now Captain for the day as the next agent in line. I resign from my post!!” She shouted at the pop stars.

Four gasped “But w-what you can’t resign?!” Four waved the captains hat around.

“Oh yes I can.” Astrid stormed to the sewer grate.

“But you’re the Captain!!!” Four tried to convince the squid.

Astrid shook her head “Not today” she jumped into the yellow ink leaving Alterna.

Fours mouth was left agape as were the rest of the teams.

“Did she just quit ?” Three questioned clearly flabbergasted.

Callie and Marie weren’t able to answer as they both silently communicated with each other. Cuttlefish sighed.

Four looked at the sandwiches which were now on the floor, ruined and cold.

“I just wanted a sandwich…” her ears drooped.
