Work Text:
Dazai and Fyodor sat on the beach after spending most of the night at bar lupin.
The smell of alcohol and cigarette smoke was still strong on them.
"This shall be the last night we spend together." Fyodor said while looking at the sky.
The moonlight reflected on the ocean, making the water sparkle under its glow.
The warm summer sea breeze gently nudged the air.
Dazai turned to look at Fyodor.
"I don't want it to end."
"It shouldn't have begun in the first place."
Fyodor said, reluctant.
Dazai thought the dim moonlight that shone on Fyorodr's hair made it look like he was wearing a halo.
"I guess not."
A gust of wind ruffled his hair.
It wasn't hot, yet it wasn't cold.
"But it was fun. For a short amount of time, we were together."
"Ya'know, we were a pretty lame couple."
Dazai said with a hint of humor in his slightly tired voice.
"Is that what we were? A couple?"
Fyodor finally turned to look at Dazai.
Dazai's breath was caught in his throat when he laid eyes on Fyodor's own, violet eyes.
They glowed slightly, the moonlight brought out the vibrant hues that normally, didn't show themselves otherwise.
Dazai found himself staring into them.
"Whatever it is, we were pretty lame. We haven't even kissed yet and we're calling it quits."
"It wouldn't last Dazai. We're bound to be enemies in the future. It's just the nature of being in different organizations."
"It would be better if we never met."
"Why do you say that?"
"It wouldn't hurt to say goodbye because we wouldn't need to."
"That makes sense. But I do not regret being with you and I won't forget our time together. "
Fyodor tries to give Dazai a small smile.
Dazai shifted closer to Fyodor, to rest his head on his shoulder.
"Let's just stay like this for now."
He mumbled.
Fyodor leaned into the touch slightly.
"Sure."
They spent the majority of the night in comfortable silence, watching the ocean waves crash and the stars shining in the sky.
"Dazai, if we were to ever come across each other under these stars again..."
"I know."
"I don't want to ever meet you again." Fyodor says after a long while.
"Because if I did, I would be your enemy."
Dazai raised his head back up.
"I don't want that. But it's bound to happen. I feel that it's unfair."
"Let us never meet again, in life or death."
Dazai nodded, looking at the sand below him.
Fyodor lifted Dazia's chin gently.
"Perhaps this would be a suitable farewell gift."
Fyodor leaned in, closing that gap between them.
Dazai received his first and last kiss from Fyodor, under the dim moonlight.
Dazai wished for the moment to never end.
But wishes never come true.
So he decided to try and remember every little detail so he could relive it in his memories instead.
How Fyodor's hands were on his waist and chin, how Fyodor's shirt felt under his fingers.
The way the wind gently blew their hair, the ocean next to them, and the moon above, illuminating the place just enough for them to see.
The kiss was long and filled with hundreds of unsaid words. Thousands of undescribable feelings.
When they parted, they stared into one another eyes.
Oh those violet eyes. Wise and beautiful and truly spectacular.
Dazai couldn't help but feel a bit sad after.
"Let's never meet again in life and In death." He repeated.
It was just life sometimes.
Fyodor turned around to leave.
"Fyodor Dostovesky."
Dazai said from behind him, voice sounding slightly amused.
He didn't look back.
"Let us meet in another life. And then maybe we could actually have a chance at this."
Fyodor let a smile creep onto his lips as he left the beach. So it's settled.
In another life...
