Chapter Text
Orange had been quite proud of himself for being the first of his brothers to learn to read. Purple was second. Then Red. Then, finally, Blue. Now, regardless of the fact that all of them could read, they all still insisted on Orange reading to them, because, and I quote, "he makes books interesting." (In other words, he did silly voices and would act out the books while reading.)
Tonight was Purple's choice of book, which always put Orange's entertainment skills to the test, as it's hard to do silly voices and act out nonfiction. Orange was not going to be bothered by that fact, though, and did so anyway.
"And then, Mi…Mick…Micky Langelo painted the ceiling, but he had to lay on his back like this!" He flopped back dramatically. "It's very exhausting."
"His name is Michelangelo."
"Mikey Angelo?"
"Michelangelo."
Orange frowned. "I like Mikey Angelo better."
Purple sighed. "Just continue."
Orange sat back up. "And Leo Nardo–"
–"It's one name, Leonardo."
"Will you pipe down and let him read?" Red gently bonked Purple on the head. "You wanted this book."
"He's not pronouncing any of the names right!"
"You can't even pronounce the D guy's name right." Blue frowned. "Besides, who would name their kid 'Leonardo', that's a dumb name. Leo's way cooler."
"But Donnie is the coolest name." Purple crossed his arms indignantly.
"Did Donnie invent a helicopter? No? Then Leo is still the coolest."
"No, he's not!"
And just like that, Purple and Blue were arguing once again. As if they ever stopped.
Red finally grabbed each of them by their shells and pulled them apart. "Just let Orange read! Besides, Raphael is the coolest."
Blue and Purple were about to start arguing with Red when Orange suddenly gasped. "I had an idea!"
"What is it, little brother?" Red tilted his head.
Orange grinned and pointed at Blue. "You can be named Leo Nardo." Then Purple. "Donnie." Then Red. "Raph." And finally, himself. "And Mikey Angelo! And whoever's the coolest brother is the coolest artist too." He grinned. "And I'm the best reader, so I'm winning."
"That's not fair! You can't even pronounce anything!" Purple exclaimed.
"At least he makes it sound interesting, you sound like dad's phone reading things." Blue retorted.
"Do not!"
"Do too!"
"Do not!"
"Do too!"
"Quiet!" Red yelled. "Mikey, I think that's a great idea. How long is this competition gonna last?"
Orange tapped his chin. "One year. And if you call anyone else by their color, you're dis…uh…disk…disk wall if eyed?"
"Disqualified." Purple rolled his eyes.
"Game on, little brother!" Blue, that is, Leonardo, jumped to his feet. "And at the end, you'll all see that Leo is the coolest!"
"Will not!"
"Will too!"
