Work Text:
It’s an average day. It's kind of cloudy and it'll probably rain soon, but that's fine, both Akito and Rui don't have outside plans. Rui is working on some new inventions, which will enhance the show, Akito! and Akito is scrolling through social media. Bright colors flash by as his scrolling increases in speed, he’s stopped paying attention to the images a while ago anyways. They get too bright after a while and he shuts his phone off, sighing heavily. His head hurts. So do his eyes. He hears Rui hum quietly, as he enters the room, probably to get something to eat. It's annoying and Akito wants to snap at him to shut up. He doesn't though. He can handle it for now. It's not like Rui will be making noise constantly. Instead he withdraws into himself, legs drawn up, hands blocking his ears and his eyes shut tightly. It helps a little. The dark is definitely a welcome break from all the nauseating colors and, even if not all the noise can be blocked out, his headache does lessen a little bit.
Not long after, Rui’s humming stops and the clanking of dishes and silverware dies down. When Akito hesitantly opens his eyes, it's still dark, the shutters have been closed. Rui is leaning against the counter, still preparing some food, but his motions are slowed and careful. Akito watches him carefully cut fruit, the sound slightly grating on his ears and he quickly covers his ears again. Rui finishes cutting the fruit (apples, strawberries and mango), putting them all into a bowl and mixing in yogurt. When he’s done he glances at Akito quickly, drawing an eyebrow up, but when Akito shakes his head in answer, nods and sneaks out of the kitchen again, closing the door behind him.
After a few seconds Akito slowly slides down from the chair he's sitting on and lies down on the floor. It feels cool and grounding against his back. A hesitant peace makes its way through his body and he relaxes slightly. However, it immediately disappears when he hears his phone buzz on the table and he almost sobs, the sound piercing through the wonderful silence and it feels like a sharp knife is being rammed into his skull. Willing down his tears, he braces himself before unlocking his phone, the bright light like a direct punch to his guts. Fortunately, he can quickly turn it off completely and as soon as the light is gone, his nausea dies down a bit.
Akito lies back down, closing his eyes. His brain feels overwhelming and he desperately tries to flood his mind with nothingness. Sometimes he wishes he couldn't think, at least then he wouldn't have to worry about this stuff happening.
It takes a good while of concentrated breathing, but eventually his mind calms down.
When Akito wakes up he’s not in the kitchen anymore. He's also not on the floor anymore. Instead he's in the bedroom, which has also been flooded in shadows. He feels a lot better now. Definitely more normal.
After a few more seconds he turns on a small light. On the bedside table Akito finds cheesecake and a piece of paper. It reads I know you won't want physical contact right now, so i went to sleep on the couch, don't worry
Love Rui <3
When Rui wakes up something feels wrong. He scans the room for anything unusual, but finds nothing. So one of those days. Akito is still asleep next to him and Rui brushes a hand through his messy orange hair, enjoying the feeling of its soft resistance against his fingers. He should get out of bed. He's got a few projects lined up and just sitting around is useless. Reluctantly, he listens to his brain and untangles his hand from Akito’s hair. Pouting a little he gets up and slowly, slowly makes his way to his “office”.
Once there he sits down on the ground, a few notebooks in his hand. But instead of opening them to work, he clutches them to his chest tightly. He swallows around the knot that is threatening to form in his throat. “Hey Robo-Nene Lite, play my “Warm” playlist.” Immediately cozy, steady piano music fills the room. He stays like that for who knows how long, swaying back and forth lightly, letting the music comfort him, until he feels okay enough to place the notebooks on the ground in front of him, opening them to different pages. He doesn't really start to work on anything, but he does adjust some notes to suit his current progress a bit more.
Time passes excruciatingly slow, so when Akito knocks on the door, opening it shortly after, Rui breathes a sigh of relief. Akito shuffles over to him, pulling Rui up by his hand and out of the room.
Akito’s hand feels really warm and there's a nice tightness to his grip as he leads Rui back to their bedroom and it makes Rui feel real, if only for a little bit.
Once they arrive in their bedroom Rui slips under the covers, shivering slightly at the coolness against his skin. Akito crawls on top of him, laying his head on Rui’s chest, effectively trapping him. It's nice. Akito is really warm and the weight lets Rui feel corporeal, tangible. He lets his hands get tangled in Akito’s hair, lets Akito trace invisible lines into his skin and inhales the sweet scent of sunshine and syrup, which had long since become synonymous with home for him.
