"Mar! Mar!!" Callie shouted as she ran toward her cousin like a republican to a cringey 2018 style trump shirt.
Marie rolled her eyes and adjusted her white cloth mask. Here Callie went again on another one of her excited rants about something she found. More the likely something she found on the floor.
"Will you hush? The entirety of Mako Mart does not need to hear you scream. There's enough squidlings doing that already..." Marie said as she gestured to a young pre-human form squidling boy behind them, throwing a fit over a skateboard he's too young to have.
"Oh hush up yourself kill joy. Anyway, look what I found!" She said as she quickly held up two small plushes.
Marie blinked once or twice before finally registering what they even were. One small Marie plush and one small Callie. Both old and made by the same company that produced the News station and Callie's show.
She looked at her beaming cousin before looking back to the plushes.
"Well?" Callie impatiently asked while tapping her foot on the floor, making a clicking sound against the white tile.
"Well what?" Marie responded. She crossed her arms and leaned back onto her heals more.
"I'm waiting for your thoughts!" Callie said with a roll of her eye.
"They're plushies. So what? We have tons of merchandise. Those were made back when we were still 17 so they're not anything new." She said as she shrugged. Marie never cared much about the merch. As long as she got a fair cut she didn't care what they sold.
"Yeah but, I've never seen these before." Callie said as she looked at the tag on the Marie doll. Yeash! 28.99 for just one Together that made almost 60 g! "How the Zapfish is our stuff so overpriced?!" Callie thought to herself as she bit her lip.
"No way on earth will Marie let me buy these. Her and my folks are already on to me enough about my 'unnecessary purchases'..." Callie has a bit of an... impulse buying problem. To put it lightly at least.
Due to the fame of the squid sisters Callie and Marie were pretty rich. Both living together as roommates in a large cozy house in the middle of the more country side of inkopolis.
Callie and Marie have fought often though in the past and have even threatened to move away from each other, but both cant seem to find the guts to do it. They were like small squidlings pretending to "run away" only come back before dinner. In a way, Callie and Marie complimented each other. Callie being the Yin to Marie's yang. The two stopped each other from going insane so they felt like they had to stay with the other.
It was kind of cute if you think about it.
"Well we can't get them. We don't need anymore carp messing up our house.” Marie said as she turned around to look at the never ending shelf of cereal.
Callie puffed her cheeks out in a pout as she crossed her arms like a child, both squid toys in arms.
Until she got an idea.
"Marie, imma go get something to make for breakfast tomorrow! I'll be back!" She said, not even giving her cousin time to respond as she immediately dashed off. Marie looked over her shoulder only to find her cousin quickly running away. She shook her head with a smirk as she looked back to the shelf, wondering to herself how people even needed that much cereal.
Callie was suspiciously gone for a while before she popped back behind Marie again, almost sending her cousin into cardiac arrest. At least she didn't have the plushies in her hand anymore. Although Marie did notice that Callie had the car keys hooked to her satchel. Odd, Marie didn’t remember giving her the keys, let alone drive. She just shook her head and pushed the cart away from the breakfast foods and over to the other items they needed.
She still couldn’t remember letting Callie be in charge of the car though.
“Must’ve just slipped my mind I guess...” Marie thought as she walked along the small narrow aisle.
The two eventually finished their shopping and went home to cook dinner before watching a movie together. Callie, of course, picked some old animated movie that was, personally, too colorful and loud for Marie taste, but for Callie she’d sit though it. But she was picking the movie next time.
Slowly the two began to get tired and they began to get ready for bed. They got their nightly routine all together and said their goodnights before going off to their own rooms to bed.
Marie sleepily shuffled to her bed in her "Don't wake up unless there's coffee" gown when she nearly jumped out of her skin.
There on her bed was a small Callie plushie. The same one her cousin whined about not having in Mako Mart. She groaned as she slid into bed next to it.
"What in Cod's name am I gonna do with this thing?!" She thought as she looked at it. It's lifeless smile and golden eyes stared into her soul as she sat there.
Marie carefully picked the thing up and twisted it around so it wasn't facing her anymore and she finally felt more at ease as she turned her lamp off and slid deeper into her soft sheets, trying not to think about the little soul snatching plush of her cousin in the bed next to her. She eventually drifted off to sleep soon, thinking about random scenarios in her head.
Although those were simpler times for the both of them.
Marie sat upright in her bed, it was useless to try to sleep when your mind is racing faster then a squeegee to a ink puddle.
Tears streamed down her cheeks as she buried her face into the headpiece of her cousin's plushie. Her body racked with sobs as she dug her fingers into the sparkly romper of the plush more to the point where she was gripping onto it like a lifeline.
She shouldn't have ever went on that stupid trip without Callie. She shouldn't have left Callie by herself when she saw how broken down she looked from stress. She shouldn't have been such a rude person to her. She shouldn't have made fun of her on live TV, causing people to join in with her. She shouldn't have been such a horrible co-worker, A horrible friend, A horrible cousin.
The house felt lonely and dark without Callie, the joy and light was gone and it felt like she had no reason to even go in it anymore.
The fan blew directly onto Marie as she sat there, all by herself in the green, plant decorated room. The door was shut when before it was left cracked open. It was only usually left open for a certain someone in case they felt lonely or had a nightmare.
She looked up at it and shakily got up before opening it slightly, like it always used to be before sitting back in her bed, watching the door intensely. She hoped that it would creek open like it used to and her cousin would wander in, carrying her old striped blanket and squid plush and would push Marie over with a small huff and curl up next to her. Just like she used to and always had since they were kids
But sadly nothing happened.
Marie began to sob again as she laid on her side, causing the tears to roll down her face at an angle and onto her pillow. Her mind picking back up again. One phrase repeated in her head as she sat there, in her dark and cold room by herself.
"It's all your fault."
