Work Text:
William leaned back on the couch and placed his hand on top of Vyncent’s. They were watching Revenge of the Wasps: A Force to Bee Reckoned With while they waited for Dakota to finish with his training.
Somehow, this one was even more gruesome than the last. The wasps were the size of people and when they stung it left a huge bloody welt. William winced as he watched the main character get cornered by a swarm of wasps.
Vyncent grabbed his wrist suddenly, taking William off-guard. William turned to Vyncent, “What’s up, Vyn?”
When William met Vyncent’s eyes, he noticed a different type of spark in his eyes that felt distinctly not Vyncent. “Are you… Alright?”
“I’m just fine,” He spoke in a foreign accent, southern in its intonation. “But I do have a question for you, there.”
William looked at him, growing more certain that this wasn’t Vyncent by the second. “Uh, go for it, I guess?”
“What d’you want with our Virion?” The voice was more protective than accusatory.
William took a moment to remember that Virion was, in fact, Vyncent. “How do you mean? Who are you?”
“I'm Ram. Answer my question, Kid,”
“I don’t want anything from him,” William said, “I just- I don’t even know, Ram.” He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose with his free hand. At the movement, Ram let go of William’s hand, almost like he forgot he was holding his wrist.
“What d’you mean you don’t know?” Ram spoke, and faintly William registered the change in posture. He was sitting leaning back with his legs wide, rather than the cross-legged position Vyncent usually took.
“I mean- I just- Ugh.” William cut himself off and put his head in his hands. He said something into his hands but it was too muffled to make out.
“Speak up, Will, was it?”
William nodded and wrung his hands together in front of him anxiously, “I… I like him more than I feel like I should.”
“Wh-” Ram cut himself off, “For fuck’s sa-”
When they next spoke their voice was lighter and smoother, “You like him?”
William looked up again. “Who are you?”
“My name is Min. How does he make you feel?” She adjusted herself, seated with her legs crossed as she looked at William intently.
“You sound like my therapist,” William remarked, “He makes me feel… Alive. Like he’s the warmth I can’t produce anymore.”
If he could, he would’ve been blushing, but it was still pretty obvious he was flustered. Especially considering that he fell through the back of the couch and landed on his back.
Min laughed warmly and stood to offer him a hand. William took her hand and stood back to his regular height, fidgeting with the sleeves of his hoodie idly.
“Well, it sounds like you love him, William.”
“Wh- I mean- What?” He stumbled over his words.
“You love him, don’t you?” Min took William’s hands in hers and looked him in the eyes.
William shied away from her gaze, pretending that the walls were suddenly very interesting.
“It’s alright, Will, just admit it.” Min encouraged.
“I- I think I love him.” William said quietly, still not looking at her.
“I’ve got to go now, but you should tell him!” Min said.
Before William could respond, Vyncent blinked, his eyes back to normal.
“Will?” He looked around the room, then down at their hands. “Why are we holding hands?”
William retracted his hands immediately, like he had been burned. “S-Sorry!” He stepped back.
“It’s… Okay? I’m just confused” Vyncent rubbed the back of his neck- a nervous tic, William noted -and glanced over at the TV, sitting on a Press any button to play screen “Did I miss the end of the movie?”
William looked over, “Oh, I guess we both did.” He laughed slightly, “It couldn’t have been too important.”
“I guess so,” Vyncent agreed.
An awkward silence fell over the two of them, like they were both trying to figure out how to say something.
William was the one to break the silence, “Doyouwannagooutwithme?” he rushed, squeezing his eyes closed to avoid seeing Vyncent’s reaction.
Vyncent took a step back and opened his mouth to speak, but closed it. He grabbed William’s chin and tilted his head up to look at him. William opened his eyes in shock, but made no move to resist.
“Can I?” Vyncent asked hesitantly.
Instead of answering, William wrapped his arms around Vyncent’s neck and pulled him into a kiss. It was quiet and tender. The two of them stayed pressed together like that for a while, even after they had broken the kiss.
Neither of them wanted to move, they didn’t want to end the moment. But a certain someone didn’t care much for subtlety.
“Hey guys!” Dakota bounded into the room, sweaty from his training. “What’s up?”
