Owen was not the kind of person who showed his weaknesses. Well, technically, Owen was not a person at all - not anymore, at least - but that was rather beside the point.
His pulse was pounding inside his skull, just like it was the day he woke up, a creature of the night. There had been smoke in the air even before he had crawled his way out of that tomb.
He had been too late.
That awful word seemed to ring throughout the whole town, again and again and again.
Pyre.
OR: Scott makes a comment about how Avid would be of better use to the town on a pyre than accusing citizens of murder, and all the walls Owen had built crumpled down in front of him.

“The idea of sharing something so personal out of the blue to Scar’s identity was terrifying, especially when it was something about him that, at the end of the day, made him vulnerable. There was an unspoken rule that the two were better off knowing nothing about the other hero, and Hotguy was more than hesitant to break it.”
Alternatively: Scar’s condition is playing up again during one winter patrol, and the hero realises that he’s never confided in his vigilante friend about his legs.

“Was that the first time?” Shermie demanded. Without waiting for a response, he backed Filbrick into the kitchen counter. “Have you hit him before?”
“The boy needs to be toughened up.”
Filbrick drew up to his full height, not shaken by his son’s steady glare.
