“I’m not going to stand by as my Master is missing, Master Windu!” Anakin protests.
“That is not what I am saying, Skywalker. We don’t know where your Master is, so how can I send you some place if I don’t know the location. You're not the only person who cares about Kenobi, Skywalker!” Mace says, irritated.
“Sir! We have an incoming holo call from General Grievous.” Rex reports.
“Put him on.” Mace commands, his eyes widen as the screen appears.
There, kneeling on a dirty concrete floor is Obi-Wan Kenobi. He has a gag on, his side is bleeding heavily, and he has a blaster pointed at his head.
Mace looks to Anakin who looks as if he might jump through the screen and hurt anyone who dares touch his Master.
“Well, well, Master Windu, Skywalker, look whom I caught, the famous Negotiator. Clearly, he sucks at his job, as he was unable to negotiate his way out of this.” Grievous says as he comes into the camera.
“What do you demand, General Grievous?” Mace questions, his eyes never leaving Obi-Wan.
“I would normally demand secrets, Master Windu. But today is my lucky day, I have one of the major Generals of the Republic. I didn’t call to make demands, Jedi! I called so you can witness his execution.” Grievous spits out. For a split second, concern washes over Mace’s face for his friend.
“You won’t get away with this, Grievous!” Anakin angrily shouts.
“Oh, I will, but I’m afraid Kenobi won’t.” Grievous says laughing. “Say goodbye, Kenobi.” Grievous says and yanks the gag out of his mouth.
“Master!” Anakin shouts.
“Kin?” Obi-Wan mumbles.
“Yes, Master, it’s me, Anakin. You can’t die yet, we’re coming.” Anakin says, Rex tracked down the coordinates and they’re heading there now.
“S’kay, not gonna make it anyway, stab wound.” Obi-Wan slurs.
“No, no, no, no, you can’t leave me, Master!” Anakin shouts and Mace looks away, unable to watch his friend die.
“S’fine. Good Knight, you are. Love you. Goodbye, Kin.” Obi-Wan says, his voice weakening.
“Obi-Wan!” Anakin screams.
“Ah, what a tearful goodbye, but I’m afraid the time is up.” Grievous says. A blaster bolt and the slump of a body are heard. “Until next time, Jedi.” Grievous says and the comm shuts off.
The bond rips in Anakin’s head and he falls from the pain, his brother is gone, and he didn’t save him, he was always supposed to save him, but he was too late.
“OBI-WAN!”
