Work Text:
Robin had been messing with the zipper of her jacket all night, not even noticing that she was doing as such. She'd gotten excited about something earlier that day (they were watching West Side Story and she found that she hadn't even needed the subtitles to understand the parts in Spanish) and was working off the excess energy. It wasn't super loud or anything, but it was enough to distract Nancy from what she was working on.
"Hey" she said to get her girlfriend's attention. "Could you quiet that down a bit?"
Robin immediately stopped, muttering out a string of apologies and looking away guiltily. Nancy frowned. "You can still do it" she told the blonde. "It was just kind of distracting me from my notes on this latest article"
"It won't happen again, I promise" Robin told her, voice a bit shaky. Her mom always got so mad at her for it, so she was incredibly worried that she'd pissed off Nancy. The brunette sighed.
"Robin" she said calmly, crawling across the bed to where her girlfriend was sitting, trying to resist the urge to rub at her knuckles and offset the anxiety in her stomach. "I'm not mad at you"
"You're not?
"No" Nancy told her firmly. "It's how you work off energy, that's okay" she assured her. "It was just sort of distracting me from my work, so I was just gonna see if there was a way you could do it more quietly or fidget in some other way that wasn't as distracting to me, but you know I wouldn't be mad over this" A hesitant nod. "Robin, you know that, right?"
"It's childish"
"Robin..."
"No, it is" she insisted. "And I was distracting you, and-"
"Robin"
"Sorry" Robin apologized, realizing she was beginning to ramble. "Sorry, I know, it's just..."
"Hard?"
"Yeah"
"I know" Nancy replied with a frown. "But I'm not gonna chastise you for any of this, and if I do, just explain it to me and I'll try my best to correct my behavior" she reassured. "I can't promise I'll get everything right, but I love you, and I'm not gonna get mad at you for anything like this, okay?"
"Okay..." Robin replied. "I love you too" she added before hesitantly fidgeting with the sleeve of her jacket instead, which made less noise. She looked up at Nancy, silently asking for approval, getting a nod in response. The brunette leaned over and kissed her on the forehead before going back to the end of the bed to sort through her notes. "Thanks, Nance"
"Don't mention it"
