Sloppy Bandages

Summary:

Sometimes battles don't go according to plan. And sometimes the plans are idiotic, as Alucard says. But Trevor has good reasons for what he does, even when it ends poorly for him.

Work Text:

Trevor is going to throw up.

Not that it would be very productive, and in fact would hurt more than it helps, but the way he’s bouncing in Alucard’s arms is nauseating. The smell of blood and his lightheadedness do not help. Nor does the way Alucard is shouting at him as they run. Well, as Alucard runs, anyway. Trevor is just sort of dangling in his arms, like wilting flowers; Or maybe a sack of floppy fish.

“Hey, pay attention!” Alucard demands, finally slowing down. “You cannot sleep yet, at least until I patch some of this up and, and get us back to the castle.”

“’M fine.”

“You are not,” Alucard hisses. Trevor echoes the sound as he’s set on the ground, pain blooming anew. “And I will have words for you, once you are coherent enough to understand them.”

Trevor snorts. It makes his chest ache again, but it’s worth it. He manages to say, “Wanted me to let you get hit?”

“I want you to think! For once!”

“Did,” Trevor grunts. He has to stay quiet for a few moments as Alucard removes the fabric Trevor had to tie quickly around himself—it was a sloppy job, but it kept him alive during the fight, didn’t it? “You didn’t see it. Knew I could take it.”

Those pretty golden eyes close, Alucard biting his lip for a split second before going back to his work, cleaning and re-bandaging Trevor with a professionalism borne of practice. A little pain—not from his wound—twists Trevor’s heart.

"You shouldn't be taking hits like this." Though it sounds like a usual admonishment, Alucard's voice has gone quiet. His voice hesitates where his hands do not.

Trevor manages to look down. He'll match Alucard now, if he survives. A giggle breaks from his lips.

"I mean it."

"You. You aren't the only one who." Trevor has to pause, breathe through the pain, even though Alucard is finishing and preparing to move them again, to get away from any pursuers. "I think," he says finally. "And this was better than..."

Trevor can't bring himself to say it, but his eyes must show it, because Alucard nods.

"I know." He waits until Trevor is in his arms again to say, "Thank you. But I'm still angry."

Trevor just smiles, gritting his teeth again as Alucard sprints off, carrying him to safety.

Notes:

You know, Trevor I think has a very "Save friends now, bandage myself later" mentality. Yes? Idk if vampires or dhampirs can have heart attacks, but Trevor will be the first to (unintentionally) test this. ^^;;
Hope you enjoyed! :D
