“Do I want to know?”
Lena walked out of the elevator and found Kara lying across her couch. It was unconventional for a couch to be in a scientist’s lab, but anyone who was friends with Kara Danvers had to make concessions for comfort.
Besides, she had created the most resistant-to-everything fabric, and had created a cover for the couch. So she wasn’t too worried. About the couch, at least. She was certainly worried about her best friend, who currently had two large black eyes and a bloody nose. The bag of peas she was holding against her face didn’t seem to be helping.
As Kara sat up, she dripped blood onto her pink Oxford button-down. Looking down, she sighed. “I’ll clean that later.”
Grabbing a roll of paper towels, Lena sat next to her and gently wiped the blood off the blonde’s face. “What happened?”
“I forgot that I had lost my powers and got in the middle of a fight between two dudes at Al’s place. Let’s just say… I got to know one of their fists really well.” Kara screwed up her face and batted Lena’s hands away. “I’m fine, it’ll heal.”
“At least let me clean up the blood and get you a proper ice pack.” She grabbed one of Kara’s hands and squeezed tightly, trying to let her know how serious she was.
The journalist sniffed and winced. “Alright. And maybe set my nose, too.”
“I’ll do that first. Ready?”
She nodded.
“Three, two…” Lena wrenched the nose into place, hearing the bones click and Kara screamed.
“Rao, that hurts.”
“Better than before though, right?”
“...Yes.”
“Good.” She stood and discarded the bloody towels in the waste bin, then pulled a gel ice pack out of the freezer next to the incubator. Wrapping it in a dishcloth, she handed it to Kara. “Lie down and put this over your eyes and nose. Don’t move until I tell you.”

two.
“Honey, I’m home!”
“Dear, don’t freak out…” Kara’s voice ambled all the way from her bedroom.
“What did you do?” Apprehensively, she made her way down the hallway to where their bedrooms were.
One of the best decisions they had made post-multiverse collapse was moving in together. They were basically at each other’s place every night anyway, and Lena didn’t have the income she used to have while working at her family business. It simply made sense.
They were fantastic roommates, and they had found a wonderful apartment that was closer to both of their workplaces, and the Tower.
“Nothing too big, I swear. I just pulled a couple muscles sparring with Alex.”
Lena rounded the corner to find Kara lying on the bed, covered in bags of ice wrapped in towels.
“A couple?? Kar, this looks like your whole body!”
The ice and plastic rustled as Kara shrugged. “It’s not as bad as it looks, I swear.”
“How did you even get here?”
“Alex and J’onn.”
Coming to the side of the bed, Lena poked the other woman’s shoulder. Kara winced and hissed like their cat touching water. “Don’t do that!”
“Oh, am I adding insult to injury? You really don’t know how to act when you lose your powers.” She shook her head.
The blonde screwed up her face. “Har de har har. While you’re here, can you please get more ice? My legs are sore and I don’t want to feel them.”
“One sec.” Snapping a photo, she chuckled at Kara’s put-out face. “Okay, now I can.”
“You’re so mean.”
“And you love me anyway!” Lena airly threw back as she skipped out of Kara’s bedroom.

three.
“And what did you do this time?”
It was a Saturday. Lena had been enjoying her day off by staying in bed much longer than she usually would have. She still woke up at the same time every day, to keep her body on a consistent schedule, but if she didn’t have to get out of bed at eight in the morning there was no way she was getting out.
From Kara’s room, she could hear the Kryptonian waking up and moving around. She was probably getting dressed and working on her projects she had not been able to work on during the weekdays.
Suddenly, she heard a bang, then in coherent Kryptonian swearing.
She sighed, put down her phone, and reached for her glasses from her bedside table.
Ambling across the hall to Kara’s room, she poked her head and tiredly asked the question she was way too used to asking.
The older woman was curled up in a ball in the middle of her room, cradling her hand and swearing under her breath. Her close-cropped hair flopped in front of her face.
“I caught my hand in the door of my closet. Please, avenge me!”
“You’re so dramatic.” Lena shook her head. “Come on, let’s go to the kitchen.”
They slowly made their way to the kitchen. Kara flopped herself across the bar counter, mewling like a hurt kitten.
Lena chuckled internally and shook her head. Kara was so used to having her powers, whenever she was essentially human she didn’t realize she had to be careful. The amount of times she got injured after a solar flare showed how flippant Kara usually was around hot surfaces, workout machines, doors, knives, and a thousand other things.
At this point, half of their freezer space was taken up by gel alcohol packs, snap packs, and ice bags. They were all for her clumsy, adorable best friend who seemed to have a magnet for bumps and bruises.
Shaking a gel ice pack and wrapping it in a thin dish towel, Lena gently examined Kara’s hand before settling the ice pack on top of it. “You’ll live. Quit groaning, you’ll wake the cat.”
“But it hurts.” Kara’s pout made her look like a potato stuck with an upside-down spoon.
“That’s why you’re going to stay here while I cook brunch.”
“You’re cooking?” Kara’s head shot up and she smiled. “Thanks, Lee.”
—
(plus one.)
“Jess? What’s up?”
“Kara, can you come over to The Foundation, please?”
“Sure, what’s wrong?” She could hear a note of concern in the usually unflappable secretary’s voice.
“Lena twisted her ankle in her heels. She doesn’t want to bother a fireman or EMT, but she can’t reach the elevator.”
Shrugging on her jacket, she grabbed the phone. “I’m on my way.”
Before she left their apartment, she pulled open the freezer and retrieved an ice bag. They had all sorts of ice pack types to suit any occasion, since the body at different parts accommodated certain shapes and sizes better.
Tucking the ice bag into her jacket pocket, she went out to the balcony, and after checking that no one was looking, kicked off into the air.
She landed in an alley next to The Foundation, brushing her shoulders off and smoothing her tie before emerging onto the sidewalk. Hurrying through the lobby and up the stairs (the elevator was slower than her), she found herself in front of Jess’ desk.
“How is she?”
“Oh, she’s fine, just a little put out. She’s mad that she can’t move on her own, you know how she is.”
“Boy, do I.” Kara shook her head and made her way to the double doors that led to the offices. “Thanks, Jess.”
When she opened the door to Lena’s office, she found a very, very peeved genius. She had her arms crossed and a large pout sitting on her lips. Next to her raised left foot sat a pair of discarded Louboutins. One of the stalks of the heels was snapped.
“How are you, Lee?”
“Pissed.”
She nodded sagely, taking a seat next to her. “What happened?”
“The Foundation is having a ball in a couple weeks, so I wanted to re-train myself to wear heels. It’s been so long. I thought it would be like riding a bike, but I think my feet have gotten too used to wearing flatter shoes.”
“I think that’s a good thing.”
“I suppose you’re right.” Hooking the heels by their straps, Lena sighed heavily. “Can you take me home, please?”
“You bet.” Like a fireman, Kara slung Lena’s briefcase over her shoulder, easily picked Lena up, and carried her out of her office. As she walked by Jess’ desk, she threw a farewell.
“Can you press the button, Lee?”
Lena jabbed the down button with her thumb.
“Thanks.”
Ducking into the alley next to the building, they landed on the balcony of their apartment faster than Lena could gnash her teeth. Carefully, Kara set Lena down on the couch. She shook a fresh ice pack and wrapped a paper towel around it, gently draping it over the red, swollen ankle.
“Now, you know the drill. Don’t move, I’ll do everything for you. I owe you one hundred.” Putting her hand on her hips, she glared sternly at Lena.
The other woman sighed. “I suppose that’s fair. Thank you, Kara.”
“Anytime.”
