Work Text:
Izuku’s breathing was shallow as he tried to keep quiet.
He was being too loud, he was being too loud Hito- Shinso was going to find him .
Izuku twisted the ring on his ring finger painfully, the lavender stone digging into his palm painfully as Izuku continued to run through the twisting hallways.
Izuku didn't remember what had happened, what had led him to this point. It almost seemed like one moment he had been sleeping peacefully next to Hitoshi and the next he was watching him kill a blonde hero. One that Izuku couldn't exactly place but something in his chest screamed at his death.
Hitoshi hadn't noticed Izuku’s lingering form as he killed the hero, Izuku having fled the scene almost immediately, slipping back into their small bedroom. Pretending he was still asleep when Hitoshi lumbered into the room. His heart in his throat as Izuku forced himself to keep his breath even.
After that, Izuku couldn't shake the nagging feeling in the back of his mind that something wasn't right. That there was something that he needed to remember, but no matter what he tried he just couldn't .
It was after Izuku witnessed Hitoshi kill a second person without even blinking an eye that Izuku decided that he needed to leave . That Hitoshi was no longer the person he claimed to be and that Izuku would only be digging himself a deeper grave if he stayed any longer.
Which was how Izuku got himself here, sprinting down the seemingly endless hallway, slipping through the doors as silently as he possibly could.
Izuku knew that he only had a limited window of time that he would be able to escape and that Hitoshi would likely notice that he was missing sooner rather than later.
But god Izuku hoped that once he wouldn't notice until later, Izuku would be able to escape and get away without having to risk that confrontation.
He didn't think he would be able to leave if Hitoshi asked him not to. Izuku was too soft for that. He couldn't, wouldn't leave someone alone if they asked him specifically not to.
Izuku continued to make his way through the maze of a house ( how had he never noticed how it was nearly impossible to leave before he would never know) , slipping through doors, trying to find the entryway that would let him leave.
He eventually found it. After what felt like hours upon hours of searching, but what could've only been a few short minutes, Izuku eventually found what looked like the door to the outdoors.
But he couldn't be sure until he tried it until he at least got a glimpse of what was outside.
Izuku didn't manage to pull the door open. Something, no someone wrapping their arms around his waist and pulling Izuku away just as his fingers grazed the cool metal of the handle.
“ I don't think so ” He hears Hitoshi murmur into his ear, yanking Izuku away from the door and back into the maze of a house.
But Izuku didn't let him do so easily, fighting him off as much as he could. But Hitoshi remained firm in his grip on Izuku. Dragging him back further and further into the house.
“Let me go ” Izuku hissed out, clawing that the hands that were trapping him. Trying to get them to falter ever so slightly for him to get an advantage, so he could lurch out of them and take off.
Izuku knew that he was faster than Hitoshi. So if he tried he would be able to escape and find someone to help him, he would hopefully get out without any confrontation.
But Hitoshi doesn't falter in his gripe, if anything it tightens . Eventually, Hitoshi gets tired of dragging Izuku and picks him up , slinging Izuku over his shoulder.
“No,” Hitoshi says bluntly as he walks back to their bedroom ( a cage. It was a cage ) and plops Izuku back on the bed. Locking the door behind them with a key.
He was trapping Izuku inside.
“Toshi-” Izuku tried again but was quickly shut down when Hitoshi covered his mouth with a hand.
“No.” He says stiffly, eyes cold as he looks at Izuku, dread started to build up in his stomach as he meets the other's gaze. “You tried to leave me ” He chokes out, tears clearly welling in Hitoshi’s eyes. It pulled at something in Izuku’s chest. He hadn't wanted to hurt him but….
“You tried to leave me ,” Hitoshi repeats, letting go of Izuku to grab something from his nightstand. “So I won't risk you trying to do so again,” he says as he pulls out a pair of handcuffs.
Izuku’s eyes widen ever so slightly but doesn't get the chance to move before Hitoshi clamped one of the cuffs around Izuku’s wrist tightly before attacking the other side of the bedpost above his head.
“Hitoshi-” Izuku tried again, pulling at the cuff biting at his wrist painfully, making him wince. “I wasn't trying to leave-” He lies, trying to make it convincible. “I just noticed you were stressed and wanted to get something from the store to cheer you up and-”
He doesn't get to finish his sentence, Hitoshi whirling on Izuku. Cold gaze piercing Izukus. Clearly seeing right through his fib.
“Bullshit. You know better than to lie to me Izuku, I know when you do and I know you were trying to leave me. Don't try and lie to my face Izuku.”
Izuku shrinks into himself at the harsh tone, tears welling up in his eyes. He wasn't sorry per se but he still couldn't help but feel guilty for trying to leave Hitoshi.
Hitoshi walks over to Izuku, taking his face in his hands with deceiving gentleness, making him look up at Hitoshi. “I love you Izuku and you know that, why would you just decide to leave me?”
Izuku tried to look away but Hitoshi’s grip on his chin stayed firm. Not letting Izuku avert his gaze.
“I-” he barely manages to choke out. Fat tears trace down his cheeks, “I’m sorry” he whispers, barely loud enough for Hitoshi to hear him.
Hitoshi hums at that, dropping his hand, freeing Izuku.
“I won't punish you then,” Hitoshi starts, raising an eyebrow at Izuku as he continues. “But only if you promise you’ll never try to leave me again.”
Izuku swallows nervously, but nods anyway.
That apparently isn't enough for Hitoshi though, because he grabs Izuku’s chin again. Making him look him in the eye.
“I need you to tell me specifically Izuku,” he says, his eyes glowing with what seems to be an otherworldly force.
“Ok-” Izuku chokes out, his throat tight. “I promise I won't leave you”
With those few words, Izuku feels as if there was an impending weight being placed over him. Like there was a new weight in his chest that was suddenly being locked in.
Hitoshi smiled, a dark yet gleeful light behind his lavender eyes. “Perfect,” he purrs, tilting Izuku’s head slightly and gently kissing him. “Believe me Izuku when I say this is for the best.”
Suddenly the ring on Izuku’s finger starts to burn, and then it goes black.
When he woke up, Izuku couldn't remember what had happened, why he had ever wanted to leave Hitoshi in the first place.
Everything was safe here after all.
