Thicker Than Water

Summary:

Leonardo, Raphael and Donatello had grown so use to just the three of them; the brain, the brawn, and the jokester. It was just the three of them, and they wouldn't give what they had for the world.
That is, until the appearance of a mutant that looked a little too familiar shows up and changes everything, including his own life.

Notes:

I originally wanted to write a story about villain! Donnie, but then I realized that I had a fic similar to that already bookmarked(oopsies), so I narrowed down my choices and landed on Mikey. I thought about it for a moment, and realized that I've never seen any villain! Mikey AUs, so I decided to write it myself.(My little sister got mad at me for choosing Mikey, since she relates to him lol)

Chapter 1: The Face Behind the Mask

Summary:

“Now let’s see what kinda mug is underneath this fit, yeah?” Raph said with a grin, pulling the hood down and mask off in two swift motions. When he saw the figure’s face, he was still from slight shock.

It was...

Chapter Text

“Cow-”

“Abun-”

“Ga!”

“Cannonball!” The brothers shouted as they landed in the pool, the liquid shooting up from the pool and coming back down. The water soaked everything around them, including April, who was standing nearby, but the eldest of the four didn’t hesitate to cheer on her brothers, whooping as they stood to leave the pool.

“You guys crushed it! Gimme five!” April cheered as her brothers jumped from the empty pool. “Well… three, I guess.”

“Well, it was all thanks to you, April,” Raph said, slapping his hand against April’s smaller, open one. “You’re our girl with the plan!”

“Aaaand the girl with keys to the roof.” Leo remarked, slinging the keys they used to get onto the roof back to April. “Let’s get goin’. I wanna grab a bite before we head home.”

“Sure, just one thing first,” As she walked up to the turtles, she tossed two signs up. One said “Wet Floor”, and the other said “Dry Pool”. “And we should be good! Donnie, you mind givin’ me a ride?”

“No probbles.” Donnie said, turning so that his shell was facing April, pointing at his battle shell with both his thumbs in a gesture for his sister to hop on. When April jumped on, the shell immediately turned into a seat, handlebards popping out for April to hold onto. The rotors on the sides whirred, and the four took off from the building, Donnie flying with April and Raph and Leo jumping from rooftop to rooftop.

As Raph was mid-jump, he noticed a yellow, dog-like creature. It was cowering in the middle of a construction site, whimpering and shivering with fear.

“Aww-” Before Raph could finish his sentence, he slammed face first into the side of a building, the others not stopping to see what happened to him. “Hey, hey, guys, hold on a sec.” The snapper gestured down at the creature, his face confused. “Poor little guy looks like he’s lost.” Raph jumped from where he hung onto the building, landing behind the dog, startling it.

“Hey lil’ guy, whatcha doin’ out here all alone? Come to big Raphie, come on.” The second oldest began talking in a baby voice when speaking to the animal, squishing his face together to seem less threatening as the others laughed behind him. “What? Pets love me. Animals and I are o-” Just as Raph tried to finish his comment, the dog jumped on his face, growling and scratching him repeatedly before jumping into April’s arms, its mannerism immediately changing as it began licking her face.

“Aw, cute little guy. I didn’t even get this wet from y’alls cannonball.” April laughed as Raph moped in front of her.

“What the hell is it, anyway?” Donnie asked, approaching April and the dog thing. “Some kind of nuclear St. Bernard, maybe?” The softshell then began examining the dog, immediately going to examine the orb that was hanging from the creature’s collar. At that moment, the family heard angry grunts and heavy footsteps behind them, and they turned to be met with two angry faces. Both men had dogs strapped to their chests in baby carriers, which threw the turtles and April off a little.

Raph gasped, pulling his brothers behind April. “Initiate plan H, boys.” With an affirmative grunt, Raph and Leo emerged from behind April with strange looks on their faces.

“Excuse me, sirs,” Leo began, his voice nasally. “Can you show us the way to the local science fiction convention we’re dressed for? Legit turtle ‘stumes, eh?” Donnie then stepped beside Leo, his face awkward.

“We’re just normal humans who got lost in the middle of our average, normal, human lives. Nailed that.”

Leo rolled his eyes, moving to whisper to his twin. “Dude, you’ve gotta start making it to rehearsal.”

Ignoring the boys’ strange behavior, one of the men stepped forward a little, now being a tad bit closer to April. “Give me creature. Pretty please… or I’ll destroy you.”

Offended, Raph stepped forward. “Really? You think you can step to one of our friends and get away with it? Think again, pal.”

“And if you step to my friends for you stepping to me, I’m gonna have to step to you for… for stepping to me, m’kay?” April stepped forward, her voice wavering slightly but trying her best to remain confident.

“You do not intimidate us.” The first man spoke again. “Nor do your fake nerd voices.”

“That was actually my real voice.” Donnie commented quietly, slightly raising one of his hands. “What’s wrong with my voice?”

As Raph and Leo tensed, the two men began changing in front of them, a glowing aura surrounding their bodies. The family was shocked at the sight, but didn’t back away.

As the aura disappeared, the siblings were met with two huge monsters sitting atop of two large, horrifying looking dogs. The quartet went silent, their minds and bodies in shock at what they were looking at.

“Sooo…” Leo began, swinging both his hands behind him and holding his wrist in one of his hands. “You guys from Jersey?”

Everyone went silent at the slider’s comment, his brothers giving him the same silent treatment and irritated eyes that they’d given him for the last thirteen years whenever he made a bad joke. “Oh, don’t give me the silent treatment. I make jokes, it’s how I cope, you guys know that.”

“Whatever,” Raph said as the brothers grabbed their weapons from their holders. “At least we finally get to use these bad boys. Weapons ahoy, boys!”

Donnie lowered his staff, annoyed. “Uh, bud, I thought we agreed to reserve ‘ahoy’ for, I don’t know, ship based adventures.”

The large dogs then began snaring and running at them, baring their teeth. Donnie extended his staff, holding his arms straight in front of him. “I’ve got this, guys.” His staff expanded, showing two jets on each end of the stick. Shouting his signature “Fibonacci” phrase, he threw the staff at the villains, but it began whirring and sputtering, flying into the sky. “No, no, no-  oh come on! Jeez, that’s so not good.”

Suddenly, the brothers heard growling behind them and April shouting, her voice surprised. “Dog-thingy!”

Looking up, the dog was hovering beside the softshell’s staff, grabbing it in its mouth and popping out of sight, appearing again over Donnie and giving him his staff back before disappearing again and reappearing back in April’s arms.

“Hey, look, it fetches and teleports.” Looking back at April and the dog, Donnie felt his eyes go wide. “Oh my muffins, it teleports !”

As Donnie was distracted, one of the monsters shot some kind of weapon at the turtle, the weapon glowing before it sent him into a brick wall, the structure coming down on him. “Pro tip, the glowy thing… really, extraordinarily painful… ugh.”

“Alrighty. Leo, you take broken toaster guy. I’ll deal with the fancy trash can.” Before Leo could respond, Raph ran at the villain in front of him, sais in hand.

“You got it, big bro.” Leo said, though Raph was out of earshot, turning to look at his assigned villain. “You guys really had to ruin cannonball day, huh?” He asked, agitated, before he ran at the villain in front of him, turning to swing his swords at him. In a quick flash, Leo opened his eyes to see that his weapons were in two, most of the blade being broken off its hilt and in one of the monster’s hands, shattering them as Leo watched.

“My swords! Ah, come on!” Leo cried as the monster laughed, a grin spreading onto his face. As the monster rushed at him, the slider began jumping around, bouncing off of any surface his feet touched.

“I don’t need any weapons to beat you! I’ve got my rad ski-” Leo landed face first on the ground below him before he could finish, his body going limp as he laid in the dirt.

Behind him, Raph was being backed into a corner by his guy, sweat dripping lightly from his brow. “Okay…” He uttered to himself. “Ninja mode.” Raph’s eyes turned white as he eased back into the shadows, but the monster only took a moment before his eyes landed on him again, and pointing his weapon at the turtle, who was visibly hiding behind a steel girder, his weapon glowing between them.

Panicked, Raph whispered, “So you can still see me?” The weapon began glowing brighter. “Uh… heh, pal, buddy, let’s talk about this… come on-”

Before Raph could finish, the weapon shot a ball of bright light at him, shooting him through the poles that supported the half-done building. The villain walked up to Raph and picked him up from his shell, dragging him and throwing him on top of Donnie and Leo, who lay injured on the ground.

As the monsters were getting ready to vaporize the brothers, one of them felt a brick slam against his back and a voice shout.

“Hey, trash can and toaster boy!” April shouted, one brick in each hand as she kept throwing them at the villains. “If you know… what’s good for you… you’ll leave my friends alo- Hey!” As April kept chucking bricks at the villains, one of the monsters lifted his hand and an orb formed around the dog. The creatures tried teleporting out of the orb, but failed, the ball moving closer to the monsters with a simple wave of their hand. April grabbed onto the orb firmly, trying her best not to let go as the orb kept moving forward. Once the monster got his hand on the orb, April was shot back.

“I have the agent…” Toaster-Guy said, examining the dog creature that was inside the ball. “And the vial.” He then turned around, gesturing at a nearby brick wall as a glowing portal opened. The turtles looked up, eyes wide with shock. Some pizza guy assumed it was a shortcut, and drove his bike into the opening, realizing a moment too late that it wasn’t what he thought it was, screaming as he fell into the portal.

The dog growled as the men rode their creatures in through the portal, April getting up and running after them while shouting.

The brothers chased after her, Raph shouting and trying to grab her before the portal closed in front of them, his face slamming into the brick wall. “April? April! No!” Raph shouted, pounding his fist onto the wall.

“I think she’s alright.” Leo said, walking up beside his older brother. “There's no, like, April bits on the ground. So I think she’s alive?”

“Yeah, but…” Raph said, walking behind the wall with his hand on the bricks. “Where did she go?” He tried tapping on the wall a little. “Hey April!” If you can hear me, are your bits on the other side of this wall?” Shockingly-but-not, the snapper got no response. “Don, how do we get her out of there?”

“And, equally, important, '' Donnie said, finally walking up to there their friend disappeared. “Where exactly is ‘there’?”

“I don’t know…” Raph said, a hand on his chin. “Maybe we should talk to Pops, see if he’d know anything?”

“What?! We can’t tell Dad about… this whole situation!” Leo shouted. “What do we even say? ‘Hey, our friend is now trapped in some weird dimension because we found some strange-looking dog thing and we don’t know how to get her out’? Yeah, I don’t know how he’d feel about that. Plus, I don’t even think he’d know about any of this kind of stuff, anyway.”

“Well, it’s not like we know anything. And we can’t just leave her in there!” Raph shouted back, slamming his fist into the wall. “What do you suggest, Leo? Just sit and wait for her to magically pop ou-”

“Hold on.” Donnie interrupted, pulling his phone from his belt and holding it to the wall. “I think I’ve seen this before… I think . Maybe I can do some kind of search and find out what this is.” After snapping a picture of the glowing shape on the wall, the middle child typed something on his phone, then his wristwatch, before quirking his brow up, his brothers watching him intently.

“It’s a… compass?” Donnie asked rhetorically, his voice confused. “Compass… compass… compass…” Donnie repeated the last word to himself, rubbing one of his fingers along his chin to help him think.

“Compass? I think I’ve seen a compass before!” Leo shouted, both his hands forming tight fists. “Back at the lair, in Splinter’s do-not-touch cabinet, he’s got a compass with a symbol that’s something like this one!”

“Well, let’s get home and take a look.” Raph said, backing away from the wall to approach his brothers.

“Agreed.”

The boys sat behind their father’s chair, the TV blaring some Japanese show as they looked at Splinter’s shelf.

“Look at that, Nardo was right about something.” Donnie said, face blank and voice monotone.

“Ha-ha, very funny.” Leo retorted in the same manner, rolling his eyes.

“Shut it, both of you!” Raph whisper-shouted, lifting a finger to his mouth and doing a shushing motion. “Here’s the plan. We get Splinter out the room long enough to grab the compass and go. Capiche?” The younger two nodded before all three of the turtles went to stand in front of their dad.

“Hey, Dad. You wouldn’t mind us having the living room for tonight, right?” Raph asked, his hands down at his sides. Splinter then spit out his drink, dropping the straw from his mouth and laughing hysterically.

“I thought Purple was the funny one!” He commented through chuckles.

“Told you guys I was the funniest.” Donnie whispered quietly before stepping forward, his hands to his chest. “How about I hook it up so you can watch TV in bed? That’d be better than out here anyway, and much, much lazier.”

“Nope!” The rat man responded, a smile spreading across his face. “My butt’s asleep, just how I like it. Now, leave me be!”

Slowly, the turtles walked back behind the chair, squatting so Splinter couldn’t see them lurking behind him.

“Okay, plan one was a bust.” Raph uttered dejectedly. “Okay, plan two, we’re gonna need ten chickens, a gallon of rubber cement a-” Before Raph could finish, Leo cut in.

“Not to worry, my brothers. Leon’s got it all taken care of.” The slider said confidently, holding up the compass. Raph looked at his youngest brother confused.

“Wha- How’d you get it?” He asked, his voice cracking towards the end.

“You know he always falls asleep after milk and cake.” Leo then pointed to the chair, which his older brothers peered over to find their dad asleep. Donnie mouthed a silent “Huh.” before the brothers left the lair to get April back.

Standing in front of the brick wall, Raph stood with Leo and Donnie to his sides, the compass in his hand.

“A few hours ago I would’ve called this foolish and impossible,” Donnie commented in his usual monotone voice. “Now I just call it foolish.”

“Oh, hush, Don.” Raph said before dramatically lifting the compass to the wall, but nothing happened. He tried shaking the metal and pushing it closer, still nothing. He then began punching the brick wall angrily.

“Come on… Stupid wall!” He shouted, throwing the compass at the wall just for it to fly back into his face, knocking the snapper to the ground. “Ow…”

“Hey, bub, how about you let me try?” Leo asked, standing above his brother. Not awaiting his answer, the slider grabbed the compass and ran up to the wall, trying everything he could think of to get it open; pushing it to the wall, going on both sides, even chanting nonsense. Nothing.

Eventually, it was Donnie’s turn to try. Leo handed his brother the compass, who then approached the wall cautiously. He stood still for a moment before calmly lifting the compass to the wall, not moving as the pointer began spinning, a light glow coming from the compass. Quickly, Donnie drew a small M on the wall, the same glowing blue portal from earlier appearing again. “Huh, so that worked.”

“Okay, so… what do we do now?” Leo asked, turning to look at Raph at the same time Donnie did.

After a moment, Raph shouted “Cannonball!” before leaping into the portal, his brothers following behind him, both of them shouting the same thing.

In what felt like an instant, the turtles were shot out of the portal and onto the ground, the older two landing on their faces with Leo beside them, who landed on his feet.

“Aaand land safely…” The youngest said, staggering to make sure he stayed on his feet, gaining his balance after a moment. He then began looking around, his face in awe along with his brothers, who stood from their initial positions.

There were creatures all around them, none of them human. Some flew, some had flippers, others had claws… it was unlike any of them could have ever imagined.

“I can smell Raph’s amazement stink.” Leo said, not turning his head away from the scene in front of him.

“Hey…” The brothers heard a whisper behind them, snapping them out of their trance. “Guys, over here.”

When they turned around, they saw April, her face and clothes had dirt on them, but she seemed relatively fine. Instantly, the younger three ran up to April and hugged her, squeezing her into a tight embrace.

“We missed you!” Raph shouted, his voice both excited and relieved as the four parted from the hug. “Hey, Dee, d’ya know where we are?”

“According to my calculations…” Donnie began, looking down at his wrist tech again. “We’re in a tertiary meta-verse of some ki-”

“Actually, I’ve been exploring,” April interjected. “And I think we’re in a mystic city underneath New York!”

“That would’ve been my second guess.” Donnie remarked, lowering his arm to his side.

“So, where’d the dog thing go, Apes?” Leo asked, walking up beside his sister. They all watched as April lifted one of her arms to point at a structure that sat upon a hill in the distance. “He’s in there.”

The four then ran to the building, sneaking in through the roof and landing on some kind of perch that hung from the ceiling.

Donnie stared admiringly at the lab, whispering something to himself, while his brothers and sister were focused on the dog and the delivery boy that had gotten lost before, both in some kind of strange cages.

“There he is!” Raph said quietly, pointing at the cage that held the dog. “And the delivery boy too!” The creature tried portaling out, but was repeatedly unsuccessful in its escape attempt. “We gotta get ‘em out!” Just as Raph went to jump to the ground level, April put a hand on his shoulder, stopping him.

“I think someone’s coming.” She said quietly as a large creature appeared. He, assuming it was a he, wore dark blue armor with gold horns poking out from the sides and long, magenta hair falling out from his helmet. On each shoulder sat a small, black blob, one sharp and thin and the other round, almost soft-looking. Following behind was a hooded figure, no taller than 5’, their face concealed as they stood idly and silently by the entrance, their hands behind their back. None of them could see the creature’s faces, but they could all sense that they were all trouble.

“Listen, if you’re the guy who keeps calling about the calamari, fine! It’s pig butt, but the crab cakes are completely real!” The delivery boy shouted, moving to grab onto the bard of his cage.

“I can assure you,” The creature spoke, his voice deep and intimidating. “I have no interest in your cakes of crab, human.” The creatures on his shoulders flew to the bars of the cage, grabbing onto one each.

“But we would love to hear more about those pigs butts.” The round one said, his voice light and welcoming. The delivery boy began freaking out at the creatures that sat in front of him, backing himself into a corner.

The large creature then went to the dog, reaching inside the cage to grab the vial that hung from its neck. “So kind of you to return my vial.” He said, snatching the ball of green liquid and pulling his hand back, walking past the delivery boy. “As for you, human, you are about to be part of an experiment that will change the very nature of your kind.”

The armored monster continued walking to pour the contents of the vial into a large tank full of what looked like mosquitoes. The tank then began glowing green, and sparks began to fly from tubes.

“This doesn’t look good.” April commented.

“Yeah,” Raph agreed. “And if we’ve learned anything from Jupiter Jim movies, glowing green things usually mean bad- Oh, my gosh.”

As Raph spoke, he and his family watched as the insects began drinking the green liquid,  the ooze visibly pooling in their backsides. The creature then reached one of his armored hands into the tank, grabbing one before closing the lid and walking up to the delivery boy again.

“So, is this gonna hurt?” The boy asked as his cage changed from bars holding him into vines, constricting every inch of his body against the bottom of the tank.

“It will…” The creature said, pausing before putting the insect onto his face. “If I’m doing it right, that is.”

The family watched as the insect bit the delivery boy, injecting its green ooze into him before he began thrashing and crying out in pain as his body began changing right in front of their eyes. April and Raph exchanged looks of disgust as the transformation ended, revealing that the boy had been changed from human to a fish. Panicked and afraid, the delivery boy, now fish, cried out as he left the lab, his arms flaring behind him.

“Should I go after him, Master?” The figure in the corner asked, their voice high but noticeably belonged to a boy, roughly in his teenage years. His question was ignored.

“It worked…” The horned creature uttered to himself, pleased. “The mutation worked, just like it did all those years ago.”

Raph raised one of his brows. “Mutation? Like us?” He whispered, confused.

The sheep-headed creature then walked back to the dog-thing’s cage, standing above it. “I’ll deal with you next.” He said, his voice serious.

“We can’t let that sheep-horned goon do anything to that dog!” April whisper-shouted, standing up beside her brothers confidently.

“But, minus Donnie, we don’t have any weapons.” Leo remarked.

“Note to you, next time make your weapons out of high-grade titanium.” Donnie came back.

“Aw, who needs weapons?” Raoh said, standing beside April. “We’re ninjas! Leo has his rad skills, Donnie has his big ol’ brain, and I, uh-”

“You’ve got a friend who knows where the weapon room is.” April said, gesturing the way she wanted her friends to follow.

“Oh, thank goodness.” Leo said, placing a hand on the top of his plastron as he and the others followed April. “We would’ve been so dead.”

Once April had guided them to a large door, she pulled a lever, revealing a room full of weapons and gadgets. The brothers were in awe, walking around and admiring everything.

“It’s like magic and science had a baby…” Donnie whispered to himself, his voice breathless from admiration.

Leo grabbed the first pair of swords he could find, swinging them to get a feel for their weight and size. “Aw, yeah!”

“How about we take the glowy ones instead? Look.” Raph said, pointing to a spot that held glowing weapons that floated in their case. There was an empty holder, most likely being the holder of another weapon. Leo’s eyes shot wide as he dropped his swords, running to grab the Odachi that were in the case, redoing the same process as before. After him, Raph grabbed the pair of Tonfas and smashed his hands together excitedly. April grabbed the last weapon, a staff with a small chain on the end and held it out to Donnie, who was examining a crystal that was floating near him.

“What about you, Dee? Don’t you want a glowy weapon?” April asked, offering the staff to the turtle. Donnie lifted his hand in response. “No thanks, I’m good.” He responded before lifting his usual staff to his face, hugging it. “I’ll never let you go. This looks cool, though.” Donnie then grabbed the crystal, shoving it into his battle shell.

“Alright, boys, and April,” Raph began, turning to his siblings. “Let’s go save that dog thingy!”

When the turtles and April got back to the main lab, they saw one of the little creatures, the sharp one, poking the dog from outside the cage with a stick. The hooded figure was still standing in the corner, still. Once the siblings burst into the room, the figure instantly got into a fighting stance, an orange weapon in his hand as the horned man turned to look at them.

“Alright, you unusually buff bookworm,” Raph began, pointing one of his Tonfas at the creature. “Give us the little guy, and you’ll walk away with your horns still attached.”

“Shouldn’t we also stop him from making crab people?” Leo interjected.

“Okay, good note. Give us the little guy and stop creating crab men-”

Imitation crab men, might I add.” Donnie computed.

“Okay, good note,” Raph said before Donnie and Leo kept adding things on, April trying to get them to be quiet and Raph trying to include everything he was told. The villain, however, paid no mind to their banter, but admired them distantly.

“Raph, why don’t you take it from the top again?” Leo suggested, his shoulders hunched over lazily.

Irritated, April stood from her spot, club in hand as she jumped, shouting her name. Her brothers panicked behind her as she landed on the dog’s cage, taking the vines in her mouth as she tried to free him.

“Well, let’s get to it boys!” Raph shouted as the creature shot separate vines in their direction. The blobs, close up they looked like gargoyles, grabbed April by each of her arms and began flying around the lab, April trying to bat them off of her. The younger two were shot into the air, and were sent sliding down the vines, the younger of the two crying out as he tried to get some kind of grip on the plant as the older one slid down them with ease.

“Four!” The goat man shouted, and the hooded figure, Four, presumably, moved, lunging forward at Raph, both creatures clutching onto their weapons.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

The two collided roughly, and Raph noticed that Four was a lot smaller than he initially thought, in both height and muscle build, his height only being about 4’7-ish up close. He was strong though, pushing Raph back with every swing of his kusari-fundō, but he was able to hold him off well enough.

Looking behind his opponent, Raph could see his siblings. April was still fighting the gargoyles, but she was finally back on the ground. Donnie was now fighting the goat man, and Leo was… going through portals? Raph wasn’t sure how he ended up like that, but he had other things to worry about at the moment.

“Why’s your boss tryna make imitation crab men, bub?” Raph asked, pulling his tonfas to his face to block the ball that was shot at him. The hooded creature didn’t respond, instead keeping his distance as much as he could while still swinging his weapon. “Hey, I asked you a questio- Ack!”

While evading the end of his opponent’s weapon, the snapper’s weapons began sparking before they exploded, the explosion shooting him into one of the other guys' vines.

Pained, he got up from where he sat, having almost no time to think before the hooded figure began swinging his weapon at him again, this time the ball of the weapon was shrouded in orange and yellow flames.

‘What in the… what’s with these weapons?!’ Raph thought, evading the fireball that was being shot at him while looking at his Tonfas, which were still sparking a little.

Raph was eventually able to grab ahold of the string that connected the fireball to the weapon’s base, grabbing it tightly and pulling the figure toward him, putting him in a tight hold against his plastron with both his arms down. The creature was thrashing around, trying with all his strength to escape Raph’s arms, but the turtle wouldn’t budge.

“Now let’s see what kinda mug is underneath this fit, yeah?” Raph said with a grin, pulling the hood down and mask off in two swift motions. When he saw the figure’s face, he was still from slight shock.

It was another turtle.

He was young, couldn’t be any older than thirteen, and his eyes were a light blue, a little darker than Leo’s blue one. His face was agitated and tense as he glared up at Raph, who only stared at him, shocked.

While Raph’s mind was off somewhere, the smaller turtle kicked one of his bandaged feet into the snapper's gut, providing just enough room for him to wiggle out of the hold and get his weapon free. The kick left Raph immobile for a few moments, and in those moments, the snapper felt something confine him. He looked down to see that it was some kind of a cocoon, and his siblings were all wrapped in their own beside him. He knew the goat man was saying something, but Raph couldn’t get his mind off Four.

“Raph!” The snapper finally snapped out of his haze, snapping his head over to look at April, who shouted his name. “How are we gonna save the dog thing now?”

Raph hesitated for a moment, so Donnie interjected for him.

“Donnie’s on it.” He said, flipping his goggles down with a bob of his head. Raph watched the look on his face turn from anger to fear, looking around at the lab. “Uh, pal…”

“Turtles, why are you trying to stop my plans?” The goat man asked, his hooves clopping below him. “We are all in this together!”

“Well, I don’t know if this is part of your plan, but your lab’s about to explode !” Donnie shouted in response, he and the others freaking out as sparks flew from the tank.

Raph watched as a loose boulder came crashing down on the goat man and the tank broke, all the ooze-filled mosquitoes escaping their confinement. A piece of the glass fell on the dog’s cage, allowing the creature to break out and teleport into April’s lap.

April was saying something to it, but he wasn’t focused on that. He tried desperately to look around for the young turtle, but couldn’t find him amongst the falling rocks and leaking pipes. He assumed he was dead, probably crushed, but then thought about it. Compared to someone Raph’s size, he was really strong and probably just as durable, he was definitely alive.

In a teal and purple flash, Raph noticed that they were outside of the goat man’s lab and free from their cocoon prisons, watching as the building blew up while Donnie drew the same “M” that he drew earlier on the nearest wall. Once the portal was open, they all jumped through, leaving the building, and all its remaining residents, to their fates.

“My goodness.” April said once everyone was finally through the portal, huffing as she watched the dog thing popped above her and land in her arms. “You okay boy? Or, girl? I don’t know what you are, pal.”

“I don’t know, but he sure was good despite all the mayhem.” Leo said, walking up to April stroking the dog’s chin.

“Hey, Mayhem!” April cheered, lifting the dog above her head. “That’s a cute name.”

“We just defeated a boss villain, guys!” Raph said excitedly, placing his hands on his hips. “We deserve a cool name… Like the Mad Dogs!”

“Mad Dogs?” Leo asked, perking up behind Raph. “You don’t think something like Mutant Ninja Turtle Teens or something like that. I don’t know- We’ll keep brainstorming.”

In that moment, Raph saw an ooze-filled mosquito fly past his gaze, and tons more following behind that one. ‘Ah crap…’

“Eugh…” Donnie grunted, his face contorting in disgust. “That cannot be good.”

“Well, we should get goin’,” Leo said, placing a hand on Donnie and Raph’s shoulders. “People’s blinds are starting to open.”

Leo jumped onto a rooftop, Donnie following immediately behind him and Raph far behind, his mind wandering back to the young turtle he had seen, his mind racing with questions he wanted to ask to both him and the goat man. He also wanted to tell his family, tell his brothers that they weren’t the only mutant turtles out there… that there was another one. But he knew he’d have to wait for a later day to dump that info on them.

Notes:

This is the first ongoing fic that I've ever done, so I'm really hoping I don't muck it up. I also hope that I can keep this writing consistent, I really wanna try writing my own story in the future, and this is kinda like a practice, but also a self-indulgent writing?? I don't know, this just kinda exists now, I guess??
