IV.
Regulus is indifferent to Sirius. It's perfectly logical. He lives somewhere far away, in Muggle London, with a bunch of his weird friends, or even a woman.
Sirius is nonsignificant to him.
That's why Regulus is not having the time of his life on the last day, he is not sitting with his family or Avery. He is not drinking himself insensible in the upstairs drawing room.
Sirius is nonsignificant to him, so Regulus is getting drunk in his room.
And drunk, sitting on his bed, he knows, he already knows that this indifference will never go away.
(For Sirius will not learn that his younger brother, having changed sides at the last moment, will die tragically in the eighteenth year of his life.)
Sirius was truly nonsignificant to him.
