Work Text:
“Shiho, how about this one?” Honami indicated a nearby chair. The two had recently moved into an apartment of their own (with many tears from Shizuku after she heard her beloved Shii-chan would be moving out).
“It looks nice, but I don’t think it’s quite what we’re looking for.”
Honami hummed in agreement and continued to browse through the showroom, considering various pieces of furniture. Shiho paced back and forth through the display as well, but nothing seemed to fit the aesthetic that Honami was going for with their new home.
Suddenly, she saw it. It was perfect.
“Honami!” Shiho called, to get her attention. “Look at this chair!”
It was, indeed, quite a nice chair. It was padded well, with red upholstery and an older, more vintage design, with small rivets set around the edge of the chair and into the cushioning. Shiho could already picture it sitting in their living room, as the centerpiece of the admittedly small space. To be completely honest, Shiho had no idea what it was doing in an IKEA, as it was completely out of place.
Honami looked at it, an odd expression on her face.
“Shiho, this is… nothing like the aesthetic I am going for.”
Shiho was about to respond when Honami held up a finger.
“I love it.”
Shiho grinned widely and sat on the chair, beckoning Honami closer.
“Yes?”
“You should take a seat, Honami.”
Honami turned bright red.
“But what if someone sees-“
“Let them.”
Honami carefully climbed into Shiho’s lap, and Shiho brought their faces together for a couple of short kisses that soon turned more intense.
“Shiho, people are looking.” Honami whispered furtively.
Shiho opened her mouth to respond before she was interrupted by someone clearing their throat.
“Excuse me.”
A tired looking employee was standing near them.
“Please do not make out in the showcase. We have families visiting.” He said resignedly.
Honami scrambled off of Shiho and bowed deeply, apologizing profusely. Shiho slid off the chair and apologized as well, feeling a little bad for any small children that may have been passing by at that moment.
After making a note of what the chair was called, they continued to browse for a little while, looking for other pieces of furniture to buy. Well, Honami was looking. Shiho was left to her own devices, and wandered aimlessly through the endless displays of furniture before she spotted a display of plushies. She picked up a small anteater plushie from one of the shelves and hid it under her jacket. Maybe she would be able to sneak it past Honami at the checkout line.
She felt a small tap on her shoulder and whirled around, to find Honami smiling at her with a couple of towels in her hands.
“Are you ready to go?”
“Yep, mhm, of course.” Shiho hoped the lump caused by the plushie wasn’t too noticeable.
Honami stared at her, clearly considering Shiho’s suspicious answer, before seeming to decide it wasn’t anything to worry about.
They walked down the stairs and into the checkout area, where Honami put in the order for the chair and then went into the checkout line, Shiho trailing after her. Honami placed the towels on the checkout belt, and when Honami wasn’t looking, Shiho quickly stuck the plushie underneath the pile of towels.
“Shiho, is that a plushie?”
Damn. Maybe she wasn’t as sneaky as she thought she was.
“Shiho, our whole bedroom is already covered in plushies.” Honami sighed affectionately.
“Excuse me? This little one was looking at me and I just couldn’t say no to them, okay? Can we please take them home?”
Shiho locked herself into a silent contest of wills with Honami.
“Alright, you can buy the plush. But this will be the last one, right? Right, Shiho?”
“Yep.”
Both Honami and Shiho ignored the six other times that Honami had said that. They loaded everything into their car and headed home.
“Okay, what the fuck are these instructions?” Shiho grumbled, after turning the instruction pamphlet around a third time, trying to make sense of the directions.
“Shiho, it’s really not that difficult.” Honami chuckled, tightening another screw. The construction of the chair was making good progress, although that was mostly due to Honami’s hard work. Shiho was still staring at the directions, willing them to make sense.
“Can you pass me that allen wrench?” Shiho grabbed a tool and held it up.
“This one?”
“No, Shiho, that’s a screwdriver.”
“How about this one?”
“That’s a hammer.”
“This o-” Honami leaned over and kissed her, cutting her off. When she pulled back, Shiho spied a small metal tool in her hands.
“Did you only lean over so you could get the wrench?”
“Perhaps.” Honami had a small smile on her face, before turning away and returning to her work.
“Nearly done…”
Shiho looked at the chair, which was indeed nearly done.
“And finished!” Honami stood up to admire her hard work, appraising it, then pushing it slightly, nodding when it didn’t wobble.
Shiho walked up and placed her anteater plushie on the chair.
“Shiho, move the plushie-”
“Excuse me? This is ‘King Johnny Buddha Sanchez ven Katanarashima the Unchained Schrödinger of the Minhdistries or Whatever Because Chen Sweeping Doesn’t Ham’ and you will treat them with respect.”
Honami looked mildly terrified for a moment, before patting the plushie on the head gently. She kneeled at the foot of the chair. Shiho nodded, pleased at Honami’s display of submission towards the plush anteater.
“He accepts your offering.” Shiho moved the plushie to the shelf, and Honami brightened, moving to sit down, collapsing into the chair with a relieved sigh.
“Honami, you sit so… normally.”
“Is this not how you’re supposed to do it?”
Shiho huffed and then crawled into Honami’s lap, sprawling out across her and onto the armrests of the chair.
“That is most definitely not how you are supposed to sit,” though Honami was smiling down at her. Shiho’s only response was to grab Honami by wrapping her arms around her back and tilt her head forward, lips meeting Honami’s.
Honami flushed red but returned the kiss, and in a couple moments, Shiho broke away and gave Honami a sly grin, who avoided meeting Shiho’s eyes.
“Cat got your tongue?” Shiho teased.
“You’re beautiful.” Honami murmured, before slapping her hands over her mouth and looking away.
Shiho felt herself begin to blush brightly, but she shook her head a bit to clear it and leaned forward, her hands coming up to cup Honami’s cheeks, that confident grin returning to her face.
“Honami, my love, would you like to kiss a little bit more?”
Honami nodded quietly, and Shiho descended onto her once more.
They broke apart, and Honami gazed into Shiho’s eyes, love and affection glittering within them.
Shiho scooted down a bit, resting her head on Honami’s chest, right above her heart. If she listened closely, she could hear Honami’s heartbeat fluttering, causing a pleased grin to spread across her face. She closed her eyes.
“Shiho, are you just going to take a nap on top of me?”
“Yeah. Hope you don’t mind.”
“Not at all. Rest well, my love.”
