He paused before he knocked. He needed the few seconds to gather himself, to make sure he wouldn’t shatter when he saw her.
Then the door was yanked open, and there she was. Long blonde hair, big green eyes wide and full of the same desperation beating in his heart.
“Giles.” Her voice was smaller, softer, but by God it was her voice. He never thought he’d hear it again.
“Buffy,” he said, he sobbed, and then she was in his arms, holding him so tightly he feared for his ribs.
She was home. They both were. Where they belonged.
