How to say everything to someone that’s not listening?

Summary:

King Sonic had been acting odd in his final moment. Even odder than before the fall of King Arthur. He would race around the kingdom and would never be able to sit still longer than an hour; there were even a few times when the king would snap at someone before apologizing. The Knight of the Winds is forced to stay with Camelot much like King Arthur.

Lamorak had seen the way that the Old King would fidget and even heard a few rumours of him begging Merlin to let him out of the castle grounds. Maybe that was the beginning of the breaking point…or the final straw that broke the kingdom.

Work Text:

King Sonic had been acting odd in his final moment. Even odder than before the fall of King Arthur. He would race around the kingdom and would never be able to sit still longer than an hour; there were even a few times when the king would snap at someone before apologizing. The Knight of the Winds is forced to stay with Camelot much like King Arthur.

Lamorak had seen the way that the Old King would fidget and even heard a few rumours of him begging Merlin to let him out of the castle grounds. Maybe that was the beginning of the breaking point…or the final straw that broke the kingdom.

Either way, the Knights of the Round Table are waiting for the other shoe to drop.

They are always waiting. Merlin always told them to be patient then it was his child that told them to be patient then Merlina…and they are tired of being told to wait, be patient, that things are going to work out. Their job isn’t to wait around and watch the world burn, they are might to put that flame out. They are meant to fight for a better future, to help their king before they lose themselves.

Instead, they sat patiently by and watch the flames grow higher than they have ever seen before.

Lamorak remembers the burning heat as the problems continue to pile up and the voices of the people demanding for answers. He was barely a knight then, only being able to hide behind Percival as she deals with it. It hurt the most for Galahad since he spent quite a lot of time with King Arthur since Lancelot was King Arthur’s right hand.

When King Sonic step onto the throne, many were bitter and hateful. A new king takes the place of their beloved Arthur so soon after his death. What was he thinking? Lamorak didn’t feel much of anything during those few weeks until he was alone in the meeting room and he broke…he tried to hold back any sound because he didn’t want anyone to hear.

Everything suddenly caught up to him at that moment.

His king was really gone…the king that helped him and his sister. The king would play knights with the children. The king that would help everyone that he can…the same king that ordered his knights to hurt people, the same king that burnt down homes…the same king that was nothing more than an illusion made by Merlin.

But yet, Lamorak still mourns all the same.

All the knights do it in their own way.

It was late at night when Lamorak bump into their new king. King Sonic was just sitting on the window sill that overlooks the town below. There are a few lights lit since the moon is shining brightly down. Lamorak looks toward his king and the scene suddenly became something familiar…scarily familiar.

Instead of King Sonic sitting there, King Arthur is. No armour in sight. A rare sight in his last days…just a man under all that metal; soft brown eyes that held so much love for its kingdom that anyone can question where it has gone. Lamorak remembers staring for a long time before fleeing just before his king could say anything.

He regrets not saying anything then.

He won’t make the same mistake twice.

“Is there room for one more?” Lamorak asks, being very careful about going through with this. He doesn’t want King Sonic to run off or something.

His king moves his legs towards him, giving space for Lamorak to take a seat which the hawk did.

Lamorak kept his back to the kingdom and just stared at the wall before him. The moon’s light cast shadows onto the wall, making his king appear far more like Arthur than Lamorak would have liked. It’s only been a few months since King Arthur’s defeat but for some reason, it still hurts. Everything still hurts; his heart, his head, the very fact that betrayal still clings to his bones.

He wonders if things are going to get better…

“Are you leaving us too?” Lamorak asks, finally looking at his king.

The Knight of the Winds. You can’t tame the winds; you can’t control them and force them to stay still. That’s just not what the winds were made to do. They were might to run free through the countryside. Lamorak knew they were trapping their king in a glass jar just because they were afraid to let go.

Sonic didn’t look at him but his eyes flicked down, which was all the answer that Lamorak needed.

The knight stands and walks away…Lamorak knew the answer to both of his kings. They were both never might to stay but he still selfishly thought that they would.

Notes:

I think these one-shots were always leading up to comparing Sonic and Arthur to one another. I'm not sure why but that's what happened. Don't know how well this is but hopefully you enjoyed and have a nice day/night!
