Chapter 1: Falling in the vortex

Chapter Text

Marinette got up hurried, as usual, to prepare for the school day. She ran around her room panicking, trying to find her clothes, since she couldn't go to school with pajamas of course.

"Where is my jacket?" She exclaimed, worrying about the time.

"Marinette! It's here" Tikki said calmly in comparison to her owner, floating on top of the jacket.

"Thanks Tikki" she smiled, slipping her hands through the sleeves, slinging her bag over her shoulders. She opened the pouch and Tikki flew inside.

The girl fast-walked down the stairs, kissing her parents goodbye, grabbing her backpack and practically speeding to school.

"Hey girl!" Alya waved from afar, seeing her friend making her way towards her.

"Hey Alya" she replied, hugging her friend before letting go.

"How's it going? How was your weekend?" She asked, getting closer to the other's ear.

"I heard of a lot of akuma attacks in the weekend" she whispered, chuckling quietly in the end of the sentence.

"Well, it was kind off tiring but I managed like always!" She exclaimed in an attempt to reassure Alya.

Alya knew she was lying, but didn't drag it any longer. They walked to their homeroom, unknowing of the disaster that will occur to them.

The school day was going smoothly, until the last period of the day.

The brunette girl in the backseat rose her hand high, already causing Marinette's blood to sizzle.

"Miss Bustier, I wanted to talk to you about something." Lila said, her voice high and distraught, making anyone who heard it frown. As long as they didn't know Lila, that is.

The girl's gaze pinned to Marinette, a sly smirk forming in her face, before quickly falling back in the overdramatic frown as she exited the class with the teacher.

"I think she's planning something!" Tikki whispered from the pouch bag, the ravenette feeling her stomach hurt in anxiety.

The teacher walked back in the classroom and the room fell miserably silent at the words spoken.

"What are you talking about." Was all Marinette could blurt out, her heart dropping to her knees.

"Miss Rossi is claiming that you and Miss Bougeious were making fun of her, yes?" Miss Bustier said, dismayed by the accusations. Deep down she didn't believe that Marinette Dupain-Cheng would ever do such a thing. Marinette was in her class last year, she knew what being bullied was like.

"That's not true at all! I haven't even talked to Lila since she almost got me expelled for something didn't do!" She scoffed. She couldn't believe she had to go through this again.

"I utterly hate to say it but..." Chloe paused, her face scrunching up in disgust.

"...Dupain-Cheng is right. I would never ever get along with a loser, even if it's to make fun of another loser" Chloe laughed mockinlgy, the defeaning sound making Marinette roll her eyes annoyed.

Lila cried in the fakest manner known to man, "Then explain why you were laughing at me after school when I fell down the stairs!" she yelled, fake tears escaping her tearducts.

She knew that people would believe her.

Everyone in this damn school is so compassionette and oh, so sensitive, they would all fall right in her trap.

Besides, everyone in this school is wearing rose tinted glasses, and those who are not are to get out of her way.

"Marinette, Chloe and Lila, to the principal's office, right now!" the teacher announced, pointing to the door.

Marinette and Chloe's ears were practically fuming, while Lila was trying incredibly hard not to laugh right to their faces.

The three walked out the classroom, shutting the door and making their way to the principal's office.

"There's no getting out of this situation, Marinette." Lila stated, her eyes looking in front of her.

She was anxious.  What if the trap Lila had set for her and Chloe was all too well prepared? what if she really couldn't get out of this? "I'll show you just how well I can get out of it." her voice as low as a whisper spat back, full of confidence, but truth be told, she was not confident in her self. She was trying to intimidate Lila, but it seemed like it wasn't really working.

They reached the principal's office.

'This is it.' The blue-eyed girl thought, the words sounding so loudly inside her mind that she felt the urge to shut her ears, btu without giving in it, she walked to the door.

"Is this all true, Miss Bougeious? Miss Dupain-Cheng?" Mr Damocles questioned, shooting an apathetic look at the two students.

"No! Mr Damocles, Lila has been proven to have framed me before! I don't know why you would believe her!" Marinette panicked, her voice remaining somewhat on a stable octave.

Chloe was shocked. "This is ridiculous, utterly ridiculous! If my daddy finds out about this he will get you fired!" She screamed, and if voices could easily break windows, the glass behind the principal would be shattered.

"I have proof!" Lila exclaimed, pulling her phone out of her pocket and playing a recording.

Apparently in the recording were the voices of Marinette and Chloe calling Lila a bunch of names and making fun of her for being 'famous'.

'Seriously? That doesn't even sound like us. Who would believe this bullshit?" Marinette thought, having to hold on the chair handle so she doesn't stand up, walk up to Lila and legitimately slap her.

'Don't stoop to her level, don't stoop to her level, don't -' she repeated, until she heard the shattering announcement.

"Marinette Dupain-Cheng, you are expelled from our school! Chloe Bougeious, you get a 5 day suspension." The principal muttered the last art under his breath, trying his hardest to not anger the young girl.

'What.'

She wanted to scream. Why does he believe the liar over her?

Has she not proven many times that she's a good person?

Why does she get expelled and Chloe only gets a suspension?

What is wrong with him?

Exiting the office, everyone stared her down.

Their eyes stared deep in her soul, she felt transparent.

She felt like she was participating in the most exposing show and they all stared and judged her.

How could they?

How could they believe that brat over her?

Hasn't she always been there for them?

Hasn't she helped everyone through their own problems?

Hasn't she given enough?

Why wouldn't they do the same?

All these people she thought she knew and could trust had managed to change to the shadows of her past in a matter of hours.

She didn't care about that liar anymore.

She didn't care about those hypocrites who pretended to be by her side the whole time only to stab her right in the back in the slightest of mistakes.

She didn't care anymore.

About anyone.

Her gaze strong and rageful, she stormed away from the crowd straight to the bathroom. She was in need of privacy at the moment, and a yard full of pesky idiots burning holes all over her with their eyes was really not helping her case.

She heard footsteps entering the room, and she could've sworn she saw red.

"Looks like you couldn't get out of the trap, huh?"

Her fist gripped so tight she might even consider the possibility of her nails drawing even the slightest bit of blood.

"Cat got your tongue~?" The brunette mocked, a sly grin on her face.

Lila stumbled back as she was pushed by strong hands on a wall.

"What the hell do you want from me." She yelled. Her throat hurt as she held back cries of frustration.

Her lungs hurt from the rage. She's been bottling all those negative emotions up, to keep her miraculous safe. But that didn't matter right now. All that mattered was that she would put this bastard in her place.

"I never wanted anything to do with you! Why won't you just leave me alone?!?" She screamed, her chest heaving.

The girl in front of her was unaware of what Marinette's limits were.

But somehow, a part of her gut told her

That she had crossed it.

Her eyes widened when she spotted a purple butterfly fusing itself with the other girl's pouch bag.
