They hadn’t seen the warnings about the storm coming in.
The two of them had spent the night watching b-rated horror movies with popcorn and ice cream courtesy of Pearl. Marina was grateful for the new gallon of mint chip that her wonderful girlfriend had gotten her since it meant that she wouldn’t have to worry about going to the store or having most of it taken by Jaime when she would visit.
As much as she loved her niece, Marina was not going to hand over her mint chip ice cream to her. She had already spent years fighting with Lake whenever their great-granduncle came home with the groceries. Even if Lake had fifteen years over her, that didn’t mean she could use that over her! The “oldest gets first!” annoyed Marina to no end when Lake used it, but it did help when she had to fight with Lake’s kids for the snacks.
She never had to worry about Shuri. Shuri wasn’t much of a confrontational person and didn’t really share the same taste as Marina when it came to snacks.
No, it was the twins that she had to worry about the most. The duo had been fifteen just a year ago, but once they turned sixteen, things for Marina had turned around completely. With both of them being able to drive, Marina not only had to face their onslaught of new pranks that came from being able to head to the store more, but also the fact that they stole her imported dango when they used her name to get the package! She made the two pay her back double, but it also meant waiting another *
two
* weeks for the next order to come in! Those two and Lake were terrors when it came to food!
Now?
She had absolutely no worries when it came to having the best roommate ever who hated ice cream. There were times that her and Pearl would have small arguments when it came to how they wanted the apartment organized or cleaned, but they would always work things out.
Most times when it came to snacks, Marina had her side of the cabinet and Pearl had her own side. They both knew the other kept a secret stash, but neither would admit to it. At least when they found common ground on snacks, both would get a family bag so that they could share.
Which is why Marina was glad that Pearl had remembered to grab extras when she went to the store yesterday.
With the way the snow was coming down, Marina wouldn’t be surprised if they had three feet of snow by the end of the day. She knew they wouldn’t have class if the buzz from her phone told her anything.
Marina let out a small yawn and pulled the blanket down onto them both. Making sure that it was fully wrapped around them both and up to the end of Pearl’s short blonde hair. Then she slid her arms under the blanket and wrapped around Pearl’s small sleeping frame.
She didn’t mind that the two had more time to cuddle. She just knew that once Pearl was properly awake, she would drag Marina out to have the first of their infamous snowball fights of the year.
But for now, she closed her eyes and laid back against the soft pillows of their shared bed.
It was an unexpected snow storm, but not an unwelcomed one.
