“I fucking hate you!” Hiccup yells, tears filling his eyes without his consent as he slams the door behind him. He vaguely hears his dad’s voice shout something like get back here, don’t you dare walk out that door, but he stumbles down the steps, paying him no heed. Toothless peers out at him from behind a bush, and Hiccup stifles a sob, picking the cat up and cradling him in his arms. He hurries out the gate, and doesn’t stop running lopsidedly- step, click, step, click- until he reaches the playground twenty minutes’ walk away.
He sits on the swings, breathing heavily and hugging Toothless to his chest. “Shit,” he whispers. He pulls his phone out and texts Astrid with his, albeit shaky, free hand. i just got grounded for a month.
wait arent you going to canada next week??, she replies, and Hiccup can’t contain his tears this time. He won’t even- it’s so bad he won’t even get to see his mom. God.
yeah lmao guess we’ll see what happens.
He wonders what would happen if he ran away. He wonders if his dad’s concern would be genuine, or that of control, of maintaining the level of power and authority he’s so accustomed to.
can you meet me in the park near the mall actually? Maybe if Astrid’s there, Hiccup will be okay. Maybe if he can hold her hand, he’ll be able to cope with everything else.
ofc, be there in 10. sit tight :)
“What did you even do?” Astrid whispers, stroking his cheek, and Hiccup exhales shakily. “I went to the drugstore to refill my prescription while he was out.”
“Are- are you fucking kidding me?” she groans. “That’s insane. I’m sorry, babe.”
“It’s… it’s okay. He’ll calm down eventually. He’ll- who knows, maybe he’ll even let me go to Canada.”
Astrid kisses him, even though his face is wet and his nose is running. He kisses her back, even though his lips are dry and his eyes are closing.
And for a moment, he can cope with everything else.
