Chapter Text
You were shaking, fuck, why were you shaking? You'd done this a million times.
Hurting yourself had become normal, a routine, a comfort.
So why now, walking back to your shift at the superstar daycare were you shaking like a leaf?
You hadn't done anything wrong, not really. It was fine. You were fine.
Deep breath. You got this.
You gently opened the daycare doors and took your place behind the security desk.
Sun was preoccupied reading to the kids, but he did cast a glance and smile your way as you sat down.
You gave him a little wave back, before going to check the registry so you knew if anyone had been checked out while you were gone.
You knew full well Sun (and Moon) kept track of it internally but... You didnt exactly have alot to do anyway. You were just there for emergencies, or to deal with rude parents.
And... Keeping the animatronic (animatronics? God you could never decide what to go with) company. It was nice. Cushy, minus the kids screaming.
Okay, registry...
Sarah had been checked out (dodged a bullet with her creepy dad) and Timothy had been dropped off. Cool.
You started zoning out, not noticing Sun leaning over your desk, having finished reading to the kids. Worriedly looking at your arm. He fidgeted for a couple seconds before deciding that he had to speak up, even though you weren't one of the kids he still cared about you very much!! You were always so kind to him.
"Friend!", he finally piped up, startling you back to reality, "What-what happened to your arm, are you okay?"
Your arm?
Looking down, you saw your sleeve having slid up, revealing the marks you left on yourself.
Fuck.
"Oh nonono, we should get you to first aid friend! The kids will be alright for a minute, i know its scary but", your heart was racing "we can go togheter and get you fixed right back up, yesyes" you sank back in the chair, covering your face with your hands "I help the kids all the time so-" god he was still talking! why was he still talking? you were falling apart behind the desk, this wasnt supposed to happen, not now, not here!
A hand on your uninjured arm made you flinch.
"Friend?"
"Y-yes?" you said, as the tears started flowing, you just couldnt help it. Suns circuits whirred, it was breaking his mechanical heart to see you like this. He smiled at you, gently, his blue eyes locking with yours.
"Lets get you cleaned up."
Two minutes later you were sitting in the daycare affirmiry, shaking and chewing on your lips in a desperate attempt to ground yourself.
Sun crouched down in front of you, holding a box of themed bandaids, some cotton balls and disinfectant. You couldnt help but snicker at the absurdness of your self harm being covered by Freddy's smiling face.
Sun put the bandaids down gently next to you, uncharacteristically quiet. It unnerved you a bit, but you were grateful for the lack of questions. There was no way you could look into his kind eyes and not completely cave.
What you couldn't hear, was Sun and Moons internal conversation about what to do.
"Oh dear, do you really think I should ask about it Moon? I mean we have to ask the kids, but-but theyre an adult, a COWORKER, that's hardly appropriate-"
"Sun none of this is appropriate! I still think you should ask!"
"This might hurt a bit Sunshine, the kids always hate this part but its very important to avoid infection!", he smiled at you gently, kindly, in a way you didnt feel like you deserved. His hand was warm, soft. Gentle with you, even when running a finger over your wound, a small bit of blood staining his thumb. He didnt mind though, and you cherished the gentle touch.
His kindness stung a bit, but not as bad as the disinfectant.
"AH- fuuuu-" SHIT SUNS HERE "uudge that- that does sting huh?" a small laugh, trying to ease the tension. Sun just hummed in response, not easing your nerves in the slightest
"Sun you HAVE to ask about them, this is clearly self inflicted. If you wont then turn off the lights so I can!"
He wanted to wait, busying himself with getting you patched up. Ignoring the thrumming ache in his chest.
"Sooo friend! What bandaid would you like?", big smile, "I have Freddy, and Roxy, and Monty, and Chica and oh! Of course me and Moon too if you'd like!" Watching him almost bounce with excitement, his rays spinning around his head as he showed you the ones with his face on them. Seeing it eased some of the tension from your shoulders.
"Uh- I think I want ones with you?" glancing up at him, his eyes were wide and his face unreadable, "If thats okay I mean." you quickly added, nervousness creeping in again.
"Of... me?" his rays started spinning! Oh golly, oh gosh you wanted band-aids with HIS face on them! He was ECSTATIC!
"OF COURSE SUNSHINE!", you jumped a bit at the change of volume but returned his smile, almost forgetting why you were here.
He was so gentle with you. Carefully placing each one, god his hands were really warm. You felt safe with him, you always had. He was always always, always so gentle with you and the kids.
"Thank you, Sun.", you said gently as he finished up.
"Friend?"
"Yes?"
"What...", he paused, grabbing your hand and gently squeesing it, "happened?"
And you couldnt hold it in anymore.
You started sobbing and told him everything. The bullying, the loneliness, how your apartment was a mess, how much of a failure you felt like, how much of a disappointment you were. And before you could stop yourself you just blurted it out-
"I just wanna fucking kill myself!", you slapped your hands over your mouth, curling up into a ball. You'd just spilled your guts to a fucking robot. A machine. And, even worse, a coworker!
In Sun's mind, there was only one thing he could focus on. You looked so small. So much smaller than him, how could so much pain fit in your tiny body?
Before either of you knew it, you were being held bridal style in his arms. Leaning your head against his warm chest, feeling the vibrations of his fan.
You didn't know how long you stayed like that. Could've been five minutes, could've been an hour. You didnt care. You needed this. You needed to be held. And Sun needed to protect you. He felt moon at the edge of his consciousness tearing himself apart, wanting to hold you too, wanting you to know how precious you were.
"Dont die friend.", you just curled in on yourself further, refusing to meet his eye. He sat down with you in his lap, freeing his other hand so he could stroke your hair. "I'd miss you sosososososo much!", if he could cry he would, "And moon would too! The whole daycare would miss you!" You peeked up at him through your eyelashes, the tears finally having slowed down. "And-and-and!!!" his rays rotated as he noticed you peeking, "How are you gonna drink fizzy-fazz if youre dead, huh?" you chuckled slightly, god he was so happy to see you smile, "And you're important to us.", gently he took your hand in his, "To me."
And then you just... stayed there. Sun gently swaying you back and forth.
Eventually though, reality had to come back in.
"Ah" Sun said, looking through the cameras, "Eddie just had a fall while they were playing tag." He gently put you down, hesitant yo let you go. "Are you okay waiting right here for a second friend?" you nodded and he turned away, before feeling your hand wrap around his wrist.
You smiled up at him.
"Thank you, Sunny"
He smiled back, rays spinning.
"You're welcome Sunshine."
